- hwThey (Penn Credit) called and left a message. It was at 7:30 or so. At least they got the name right when they called me, but I haven't used this number recently (which is why it goes to an answering machine). I attempted to call them back, but just got a phoney busy signal that repeated. I may try again, but I haven't done debt with this number in at least 5 years.

- KimKeep getting calls from Barbara Johnson for my ex-boyfriend. I have told them the one time I did answer that he doesn't live with me anymore and they keep calling. They just say it is a personal matter but keep calling me.
- Dee Dee replies to David| 44 repliesI've been getting calls from these clowns, too. I get the same computer messages (that are hilarious when the "computer" says my full name). OK, Folks. There are laws against this and I am a consumer advocate. Now here this ~ whether you owe money or not, is totally irrelevant. Please look up the Fair Credit Reporting Act which will tell you that if you tell the collector to never call back again because of the FCRA, that they are in violation of the Law. Then threaten to contact their State Attorney General's Office in PA. By law, they are allowed to contact you one more time, offering a final settlement. Don't accept a settlement. Don't waste your time by arguing over money. Simply follow through with your threat. Warn them for the last time, then immediately contact the SAG in PA. Most SAGs can be contacted via e-mail. Attach a link for him/her to this site. Penn has probably already violated the law with their calling methods. They are trying to circumvent knowledgeable consumer warnings. This is the solution and you must follow through with the SAG. I have used this Law before and my state's SAG came down hard on the creditor, who expressed a threat (also against FCRA). Fortunately, I was the spouse of a deadbeat. I wasn't the deadbeat. Anyway, you can use this with any collector. Keep in mind that many of these calls may be scams. In this sucking economy, con artists are crawling out of the woodwork. Remember that with any collector you must contact the SAG in THEIR state.
- Dee Dee replies to DavidHere I am again adding to the comment I just made about the FCRA...Penn has a site ~ E-mail them at inquiries@penncredit.com...Follow my instructions about the FCRA threat. Go ahead and leave the name they address you by and your phone number so they know who you are. I suggest you use www.nowmymail.com from which to send your message. On that site you can sign up for a temporary e-mail address so you won't get return mail from Penn. Threaten them with their State Attorney General, then have a nice day!
- Dee Dee replies to David| 3 repliesThis is my third and last posting. I just e-mailed Penn (see previous posting for their e-mail address), after receiving another one of their automated messages on my answering machine. Feel free to copy and paste this from an anonymous e-mail address to e-mail your warning to them:
My name is xxxxx at xxx-xxx-xxxx. (Real name and number was given to them.) You have called my home repeatedly with automated messages. Your messages, that often are left on my answering machine, claim that you are a collection agency. You do not identify whom you represent, and through your automated methods, are circumventing my opportunity to warn you about the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Since you have been harassing me for months, using circumvention, I am warning you now. You are not to call my home for ANY reason. If you do, I will alert your State Attorney General to your tactics. S/he will receive a link to this website, https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-900-1380#pdJBhBsywLgDXogjLKhxjSQ that attests to your tactics as described by multiple victims. I speak for them as well as myself.
You have the right to contact unknowledgeable consumers if lawful; however, I am not one of those unknowledgeable consumers. You are on notice, as of the reception of this message, that further telephonic contact will be reported to your SAG. S/he will receive my written complaint, a copy of this notice and a link to the aforementioned website as evidence.
Cease and desist or further action will be taken. - Dee Dee replies to DavidI received another Penn call tonite. I lied. After promising that my last post would be the last, I decided to submit my complaint to the PA State Attorney General, Tom Corbett. Here is his website. An on-line form is available, awaiting your complaints ~ http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/complaints.aspx?id=451#. Enjoy!.....You may research the Penn Credit Corporation at http://www.penncredit.com/
- Sindi replies to ANNOYEDThe person from the collection agency who is defending those Penn [***], this is for you. Whether or not anyone owes money is of no consequence. Penn's tactics violate the law. Look up the Fair Credit Reporting Act so you can be more knowledgeable with your job.
- annoyed w/ Penn Credit CorpHas called my home phone several times now, irritatingly, it's always at night, says they have an important message for "my first name" but when I press 1, it gives a message saying someone with my first name, but the last name of the person who previously had my number, owes $29.00 which must be paid within 5 days. can't get through to them with the number they provide, so I e-mailed them, telling them to stop calling or I will file a complaint with both their Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission, also copied the e-mail to the BBB.

- Jim FallonCalled looking for a "Lee C-". Now, a "Marge C-" lived here before us nearly a decade ago. No identification of who they where or what they wanted, just that there was a "business concern" and to call them back. Did so and was answered by "James Smith, did you get a phone call or letter?". Asked who they where. There was a three second pause, and just when I'm about to hang up, he comes back with "I'm not allowed to give that." Hung up and turned to Google.

- AlfalfaThey have violated Section 805 of the FDCPA, by continuing to call after they have been notified you have legal representation:
§ 805. Communication in connection with debt collection [15 USC 1692c]
(a) COMMUNICATION WITH THE CONSUMER GENERALLY. Without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, a debt collector may not communicate with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt --
--if the debt collector knows the consumer is represented by an attorney with respect to such debt and has knowledge of, or can readily ascertain, such attorney's name and address, unless the attorney fails to respond within a reasonable period of time to a communication from the debt collector or unless the attorney consents to direct communication with the consumer...

- Don't Panic because I'm Hispanic| 2 repliesI continue to get harassing phone calls on my cell number, it is also registered on the "Do Not Call" registry. When the automation calls me and I prompt the call to speak to someone, most of the time it goes to voicemail but doesn't say who they are or what the business is. When I do get soemone on the line, before I give out my information I would like to know who I am calling, but the individual says I need to identify my self, but when I do, they still do not tell me who they are except that I owe a bill and I need to pay it or else, when I advise "or else what" the person says "Let's not go there" when I ask where do I send the money(fishing for info)they say they can only take a check or credit card over the phone,I advised I WILL NOT give my payment info over the phone until I know who or what company I am dealing with, they just hang up. This in NOT right and I hope you can put a stop to it.

- Tim| 1 replyThey have called which I have hung up on them as it is a scam as I have a friend whom is a detective and the 1-800-900-1380 is related to scams. I have no received a letter stating if I do not pay for the Military Book Club of which I have no idea waht they are talking about they will turn it in to my credit. I am now turning the letter along with the return envelope which goes to a P.O box in Pennsylvania to my buddy whom is a detective and I hope they stake out this P.O box pick-up. I have sent Penn Credit Corp a couple emails and they of course do not respond.
