I GET THIS CALL EVERY EVENING SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I ANSWER IT  JUST RINGS INTO ANOTHER NUMBER AND I HANG UP

Caller claims to be from Con Edison with an emergency disconnect.  Do not give any information - it is a scam!

I have used this site for the past couple years to verify the authenticity of callers, and weed out the scammers.  

This IS a call from the tax man, likely GST/HST.     If your name is attached to any business in Canada, large or small, you must be keeping up on the tax payments and GST/HST.   They will hunt you down and can legally make your life very painful in a short amount of time.     Don't avoid this call.    

if legit they would asking to speek to you by name, and in both french and english, big time scammers

anyone saying this is not a scam is a fool, and more likely the scammers tyrying to fool you!, if the goverment really want to get a hold of you they would not do it by leaving a message in hope you call them back, keep in mind they should be speeking both french and english from the canadain goverment!!!

Definite scam. This is not the first time that I got a call from them, both on my home phone and on my cell. When I was late before in filling my GST-HST return, CRA sent me mail asking me to file as soon as possible. I asked the guy what the name of my business is, and he had no idea.

Don't give out any personal information. If you are unsure, just call the CRA on the numbers found on their website.

I just got a call. from a  woman  who said she was calling  from Canada Revenue Agency. She called my business tel# and  asked for a person who does not even work here. When I said that the person she was asking for was not working here, she hang up. It was around 8:45 am on January 29, 2015.

I've been getting this call all this week on my home phone.  I do have a business, but not at that phone number.  It's comes up as everyone has been stating.  But they leave no message.  If they do get through, think I'll switch to french and see what happens

If you're not First Nation...YOU are an immigrant and all your family before you-regardless what generation you are. Diferrence maybe, these so-called "new immigrant" you are referring to didnt come to our shores and buchered the inhabitants of this land.

Three quarters of the messages here are from the scammers themselves trying to make their operation seem legit. Never give out your birth date, SIN or bank information on the phone to anyone.

I missed the call from GOC-GDC 1-800-959-8281. I've tried to call them back a few times but the line is always busy. I googled and found out that it is the number of CRA. Is it  a scam? I don't think CRA will call us under the name GOC-GDC, right?

What you said is not true asking social number and adresse is normal protocal and this number 931-1026 is good .But let me tell you i was very nervous last night i tought this was not legitimate until this morning i did not sleep all night but let me tell you that i have learn alot from this and i will NEVER respond at ANY MORE information on the phone even those [***] are really from the Canada goverment i am not proud to say i am Canadian i call RCMP the agent told me it is not illegal to ask for any information on the phone and he is right it is what you do with such info. that could be wrong Canadian and American technoligies are capable of finding a guy wearing a dam turban 5000 miles away in a desert but can not find these guy doing this illegal things on the phone [***] you Canada

now i am really lost i call 1-800-o-canada(service Canada) the guy tell me the number is good but i should call revenue agencie 1-800-959-7383(because he is not 100% sure) i am on the phone for twenty minutes already on the phone with yves marc  matricule 33501 que  he does not have a way to say if this number is ok so i follow him on the website and look over the different numbers he said do you see it i respond no he answer it looks like you have been rob from your social number ,now he puts me on hold  because he is verifying with other departement if it could be a good number or not i ask him do you guys have any like phonebook or directory i answer no i comes back to me saying that he found a number and yes it belong to them (it is a recovery agencies that belong to revenue canada).Can you imagine in what kind of country we live in.Took half an hour to learn this .Now i am calling back to know what they want let me tell you that i am very nervous .

If they do not leave a message it is not the CRA.  However as someone who handles Income Tax issues I do get lots of calls back from CRA/Appeals/Auditors and also the Minister of National Revenue that do show up as GOC GDC and listed as Private Caller depending on which area I am dealing with.   Don't answer the phone and if it is truly the Government they will leave a message, phone number to reach them back and the name they are looking for.   If you call them back and it still does not seem legit to you that it is the CRA then call the CRA directly at a telephone number you KNOW if it is general enquiries ask for a Senior Agent - if it is Business Line - ask for a Senior Agent, and tell them about the call.  If they look into your file and nothing shows up that you were contacted by the CRA then file a complaint.   Anytime, anyone calls/writes you from CRA it is logged on their computer screens.   Lastly, contact the Minister of National Revenue's office directly if this is a SCAM caller!

Only reason I am answering here is one of my Tax clients sent me this link as she got a call and a message was left on whom to contact in the message.  Seeing how I am on file for her as her representative, I called the number because I knew it was legit as we are in Appeals and while I was out yesterday they tried to reach me first and then went directly to my client when they couldn't reach me.   Just be wary as let's face it last year the computers were hacked at the CRA!   Never give out your personal information unless you know 1000% that whom you are speaking to is in fact the CRA :))

They've been calling here non stop for several days now and not leaving messages. I would also think that if it were the government they would most definitely leave a message.

BTW, I don't owe anything to anyone, in fact we always get money back come tax time. So how do you explain it now?

The real truth is:
1) The Federal/Provincial/Municipal government always mails documents.
2) The phone numbers found in the mailed documents can be found on the government websites.
3) When in doubt, call the government office calling you through a known number.
4) Never give out personal information over the phone, especially when you are called.
5) Only share relevant information to the government agent when you call them through a "known" number.
6) Inform RCMP about these numbers.  The Scammers have the technology to alter Caller ID and piggy back known government numbers.
7) Go back to number 1, any money owing, they give you a reasonable time line to contact them to discuss outstanding debts.  I have been through this process many times.

There is nothing LEGIT about this number or the people supporting it.

This number, 18009598281, called me too, I ignored it as it's an 800 number. Looked up the number and it's CRA and the number does appear on their website so figured it was legit. Well a voicemail was left so when I checked it, it was a recording to try to get me to sign up for direct deposit! CRA is advertising now?!!
