    Got the call today.

Caller display "claims" to be the CRA, but the number is obviously spoofed.   That means that it is indeed the real phone number for the Canada Revenue Agency BUT the person calling you is not from the CRA and is definetly a scammer.

(I can very easily make my phone number appear as anything I want on a caller ID when calling from an internet based VOIP phone system or even an app like skype so that's no bit feat).

Anyone coming on this site claiming "don't worry it's the right number!" is without a doubt attached to those scammers.

    Bobo the crying clown
By the way the scammers who called me today asked for my name, birth date and SIN to "update my file"... I work for the government (not the CRA) and know darn well that's *NEVER* done so I gave the caller a fake name, fake DOB and fake SIN and as I said them they said "yes, ok,ok that matches, thank you sir".

Good luck using that fake info scammers! LOL!

I don't owe CRA any money. This is a phishing scam. CRA has a giant red notice on their website clearly stating people are reporting suspicious calls. It's all over the internet. SCAM!!

I spoke with a gentleman on the phone this evening with this number showing on the caller ID, 800-931-1026, TOLL FREE SERVICE). My parents have been receiving calls from them since this Feb 26. They have never picked up, and no voicemails were ever left. Looking at the call history, they would often call up to 8 times a day, and sometimes 5-10 minutes apart.

Thought I would share what happened to us on the phone -
We finally picked up today, and from what my mom initially says it is CRA. She couldn't understand what the caller was saying. The caller asked what language she spoke, and he followed by saying he could arrange to have a Chinese speaking agent call back. My mom just ended up passing me the phone. The caller asked me what my name was, I didn't answer but asked where he was calling from. He hesitated to tell me until I told him my name, I still refused and he said CRA. It was all very suspicious to me, so I went on to ask what this call was about and he said my mom owes CRA money. I went on to ask what year this was for and he hesitated, and never gave me an answer. But all I could hear in the background was a loud television, which of course was very strange. I could later recognize that it was in Chinese. I continued on to ask him what his name was, and asked if he could spell it. He just kept repeating his name over and over again but refused to spell it. I couldn't pick it up enough to even guess. He gave me his badge number and said that was enough for me. The badge number he provided me starts with a 0. I realized there was no other way to get more information from him (for reporting), so I asked him to provide me with his number and that we would call back. That also took him awhile but he finally gave me the CRA general line, which didn't really matter since you can look it up yourself. I said goodbye, hung up, and while I was Googling their number, the same number called back (probably 5 minutes later by now). I tried to do a quick pick up then hang up, amd I believe I heard a lady saying hello in Chinese on the other line before I hung up, but I could be wrong.

Not sure if that was useful, but we will be contacting CRA and our accountant to check our accounts.

I just spoke to an agent 30 min ago.
I called back.... The agent said me or my husband owed money, I told her we didn't, she said it could be from 2013.... She asked for my SIN number, I said I wasnt comfortable giving that info on the phone. I never gave my name or any info..... This is for sure a scam..... Tell your parents to beware, I have contacted a local news channel in my area.

Every morning for the past couple of weeks, I have received a call from this number. 800-931-1026. How do I get rid of these calls. I do not answer because I figured it was a scam.

It is two month usually in morning nobody home they are calling from 1800-931-1026 GOC-GDC, but do not leave any message. one time they called at 11:30PM which we were not home again and did not leave any message.
Yesterday at 9:30am they called and left no message, then they called again after one minute and this time left a message for first time. It was a woman named my full name and correct business number and asked me to call them back immediately to 1800-959-2765 She also mentioned their working hours are 7:00am to 11:00PM from Monday to Friday!!!!. I have no doubt this a scam as my business is inactive for several years and I do not owe any money to CRA and I know they always communicate through mail if they need to contact. I don't even bother to call them back. There is tons of messages online about these two numbers being scam. I believe those people who are insisting they are legitimate, they are either themselves, or can not understand they can program their phone to show any name and number they want. The caller name and number could be fake. There is no reason CRA call and ask personal information or requesting a payment on the phone. If CRA needs any information from me, they have to send me a letter in writing. Period. Check CRA website about fraudulent email, call, etc. claiming to be from CRA.

    Hi,
This is what is going on

If you are called by this number 1-800-931-1026  you will notice it is coming from the US. This is a fraud as CRA is Canadian.  If you call this number you are calling a Canadian 800 number and you will get a CRA office in Quebec this is legitimate.
So do not give out private information if you are called by this number. IT IS NOT THE CRA.

Nobody is listening to George. Consider an analogy. I can send you a letter in an envelope that has the return address in the upper-left appear as "The Prime Minister of Canada, 24 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario". Anybody can take a pen and write down whatever return address they want on the envelope, since the only address that matters is where it's going TO. Canada Post will deliver to you my fake letter. Does this prove I'm the Prime Minister? Of course not! In the same way, anybody in the world can make a phone call to another person appearing to be from 1-800-931-1026. It's easily faked, just as the return address on a letter is. The only number that matters is the phone number you want to connect TO.

So why does the scammer give a different number to call them back on? Simple! You can't fake the address you want a letter delivered TO, and you can't fake the phone number you want to connect TO. Just as if you mailed a letter back to "24 Sussex Drive, Ottawa" Canada Post would deliver it to that address, if you call back the 1-800-931-1026 phone number your phone company would connect you with the real Government of Canada. The scammer therefore needs to give you a different phone number that will reach them when dialed since they can't intercept calls to the government... at least not yet.

I am a Chartered Accountant and receive calls from this number on a regular basis looking for many of my clients.  It is Canada Revenue Agency - Collections.  It displays as GOC-GDC (Government of Canada - Gouvernement Du Canada)

They need SIN, birthdate, etc. to verify that they are talking to the correct person so that they don't disclose information to somebody other than the taxpayer or an authorized representative.

If you are concerned that this is a scam, get the callers name and call them back through the main CRA collections switchboard:

    For individual tax debt: 1-888-863-8657
    For GST/HST debt: 1-877-477-5068
    For payroll tax debt: 1-877-548-6016
    For corporation tax debt: 1-866-291-6346
