Who made the original statement? Do they work for this particular company? Do you have an IP Address linked to it? It could've been anybody, not even in "the business".

Mike Johnston replies to You're right ...
That is funny because When I look up Dunn, Johnston & Brown with the Texas Department of Public Safety / Private Security Bureau, that name is nowhere to be found.  The Owner, Mike Johnston may be a Licensed Private Investigator, but the business is not.  This directly violates the Texas Occupational Code and it is also punishable by a crime in the State of Texas, especially when employees, who are actually skiptracers are allowed to refer to themselves as "Investigators".  What they do is try to find people who have defaulted on their car loans and once found, they hire independent repossession companies to take possession.  This clearly puts Dunn, Johnston & Brown under the realm of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  Would they be looking for someone if their car loan was not past due?  I encourage everyone who has been negatively affected to notify the Attorney General in their State as well as the Attorney General in their state and the Texas Private Security Bureau at the following website:

    http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/psb/

The address to Dunn, Johnston & Brown is:

346 Oaks Trail, Garland, TX 75043

Owners name is Mike Johnston and the VP is Ray Taylor.

Got a call from DJB, Investigator Havens left an 800 number. I called the Garland, TX police department, they could not confirm that DJB's address is legit. Smells fishy to me.

Ok, so my mother-in-law received a call from these people (she lives in Seattle) about my husband (her son), we live in Texas. He is behind on his car loan. The original collector knows where we live and our home phone number. We had been speaking with this other company before this "Dun Johnson...whoever" took over. Anyway, this company called my mother in law and gave seriously gave her an anxiety attack because they told her that her son was going to go to jail. They told her that he had a warrant out in Washington and that the "people" in Texas would go to his job or pull him over and take him to Washington to put him in jail. I know you can't go to jail for a debt BUT his mother doesn't and now she is hospitalized due to heart conditions brought on by the anxiety attack these people caused her. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? If the other company has our information why do they have to harass other family members. Isn't this illegal? FYI: we tried to pay the debt in installments of $1,000 each (we only owe $4,000 on the car), they wouldn't take it. How do you people live with yourselves? I understand that you need to find the people that have skipped on a loan or whatever it is but do you have to lie and scare people almost to death to get $$$$? You should feel ashamed. We feel bad enough that the recession has taken things away from us like our dignity, car, home etc. But these "investigators" are crossing the line with almost taking a family member because of lies!

    Investigator Patsy Clark, 800-972-0776x230.
Beware of these kind of collectors as they are now using facebook. I received a call for a relative listed as a friend on facebook. The woman said she was trying to reach this person who is listed as one of my 'friends'. Message went like this...This is an URGENT message for xx regarding a case filed in our office. Case number xxx and xxx. It is URGENT we make contact with them. I am NOT a bill collector and this is NOT about money. We are only trying to help them before their case goes any further.
If these people are not bill collectors, why did they resort to facebook to look up peoples names that are listed as friends on that person's profile.  That is jut LOW LIFE tactics.

    Not a Dummy
My aunt received a call from an "Investigator Donaldson" referencing case # 25079. Asked to be called back at 1-800-972-0776 ext.259.  There is no reason for a collection agaency to be calling me - I own my vehicle and have no debt. This is a scam.

    Collectors-Repomen-Liars. That's theis business.

They called today and left a mess. They are hired by my bank over a 2 month late payment on my car loan. They claimed to be "investigators". Notice that they tend to call you right after you make a payment because they only get paid if the loan is delinquent and if they are able to get your car. Once they are hired, they really have no interest in you paying the Bank. They want you to pay them so they can add their crazy fees on top of it. They get desperate when you pay because they waisted all these hours and money sending people to look for you.(I made payments over the course of a month)

Unfortunately, for them, I am hundreds of miles away from were they are looking for me and all late payments have been made as of today. So VICTORIA, you can go f*** yourself

power to the people replies to Adams
Your company is a debt collection company without listing yourself as such... very good tactics, yet not good enough.  You all don't do that because you all would have to register with various agencies which means that you would have to pay additional fees and be under additional rules. Slick, I tell you.  Can you give me your specifics?

I nominate we should start a class action law suit.  These people are not untouchable....  Read the Constitution.

LOL! A fee? Not according to my bank!! LOL. I am the one laughing my ass off (LMAO) cause you worked 4 weeks day and night for nothing. How does it feel to spend night after night sitting in your car accross the street? Next time you come over, let me know, I'll give you some coffee.

One thing you all gotta know is that they will bark really loud when they call you and vomit a lot of nonsense over the phone about "red flags" and "warrants for you arrest" or "Don't pay the bank, you need make payments to us". Don't fall for it. I have never been arrested and never will. Call your bank and deal with it directly to get your issue resolved.

EVEN IF YOU DECIDE TO GIVE  UP YOUR COLLATERAL (Car), make  arrangements with the BANK for a drop-off location. Do not hand it over to "the investigators". It will save YOU money, but it will also save the BANK a few hundred dollars.

I think you should document every voice mail and record every conversation you have with them if they knocked at your door. I personnally recorded every single one except the 1st (I wasn't prepared when they came). I also wrote down vehicle makes, model and license plates. Just document and file.

You may also file a PEACE ORDER (similar to Protective Order)against the individuals or the company to bar them from approaching a property within a certain distance. This is very useful if they are harrassing your friends and relatives.
