- Phister replies to Ashley TurnerAt least tell the whole story... Near as I can tell, the business is one of asset recovery. Once these jokers get the account, it has likely already been charged off. At this point you can hardly call it debt collection because it is probably too late to pay any amount of money to bring the account current or pay it off. If you have been contacted by Dump, [***] & Blown, it's a sure bet that you or the person they're actually looking for, somehow defaulted on a loan agreement and all other collection agencies activities have failed.
As a whole, they may not be that bright, but they do have access to more information about you than you would undoubtably care for a stranger to know and telling them anything only adds to that body of knowledge. Whatever the asset; car, truck, motorcycle, boat, RV, airplane, or pogo stick: they probably have a repo agent who specializes in snagging it back to ever so slightly mitigate the financial institutions losses. Just telling them where to pick up the property is, as a matter of course, the easiest way to get them to leave you alone. On the other hand, if the '92 Toyota Paseo that you couldn't make the last $35.00 monthly payment on is that important to you, just make sure that you hide it really good. Fully expect that the first time you leave it unattended in public for more than a minute, someone with a tow truck will be along to steal it back in short order.
Good luck!!! - A little infoThis is how their company works:
They're not a collection agency and they don't want your money. They're a repossession company who were hired by banks to locate your colatteral (car, boats, bikes etc.) They will contact your relative's, neighbor, friends and place of employment to locate where you (debtor) live and send a repo agent to get your colatteral. They also send repo agent out to your relative's house and place of employment. They make awesome commission when a colatteral has been recovered. They'll leave messages with numerous extension numbers, so when you call back and type down the extension they give you, that's how they identify you.
Did I get it on the dot? You'll probably say I'm not even close to cover your guys company.
Oh, and how do I know all of this information? I use to work for a company like yours and I'm glad I walked out.
And one last thing. They use the term "Investigator" to scare people. - Glad to find this site| 1 replyI just got a call this morning from this # to my cell but I didn't answer. Message said "This is Jacky Wright, I need to speak to you, I work for a public (mumbled) investigator in Texas and there's been a case brought against you I need to talk about. Can you please call me.....? My number is 1-800 972 0776 ext 223. I'll be happy to discuss the situation. Thank you."
I called back and the receptionist didn't want to talk to me and when I asked what did the company do she answered: "All I know is that they investigate, nothing else".
Later in the day, while I was on the phone they called my HR Department and asked to talk to me. They forwarded the message and the same lady wanted to talk to me...
Funny thing, I filed for Bankruptcy...
What can I do from this point?
Thanks!- Caller: Dunn, Johnston and Brown

- beth is a lair replies to bethMaybe you should learn to follow the law. By making shill posts like this one, you are violating the FDCPA which prohibits using deception in the collection of debt.
But there's about as much chance of you learning that as there is of you learning how to spell. Stupid illiterate shill. - M7N7 replies to FergiAre you smarter than a 5th grader? Are you smart enough to pay your bills and if not, are you smart enough to act responsively and contact your debtors? Idiot!
- HELLO replies to Glad to find this siteYou would have to have your attorney contact them and say he/she is still representing you. And have a case #.
- lol replies to LilyIs not a "case number" is a damn "file number" so they can pull you up in there system quicker.
- Tired of DJB972-226-1333 - These people engage in harassment and misrepresentation at best and illegal collections activities at worst. Fortunately for us, we have an attorney to handle the situation they are calling about - we are "behind" on payments on ONE of our very many vehicles for a very good reason that we will eventually resolve with the auto manufacturer. I love the professional way they get online and "respond" to the postings here with taunts and threats - but it's great for our case against them and all have been forwarded on to our attorney along with recordings of every call and message left. FYI - they now have the "latest" technology available to them - phone number spoofing - (NOT!) so beware. You may think you're answering a call from your spouse, family member, significant other, etc. and it's THEM on the other end. Just hang up if you don't want to talk to them - and it's highly recommended you don't talk to them. Any attorney that handles collections harassment cases can win against these guys - no matter how inexperienced. That's how out of line their tactics are. They continue to call even after being clearly told NOT to. They call multiple times - which is harassment. They misrepresent themselves as "investigators" - though, in our case, they stop just short of saying "with ___________ County Sheriff's Office" but they certainly imply it, which counts. They also say things like "there is a subpoena" - there is a "theft charge" - etc. Honestly, before you freak out about that, consider - the first time you're going to hear about a subpoena or theft charge, or pending "case against you", etc. is NOT going to be through a collection agency - or whatever they call themselves - oh, wait! A "private investigations" firm - yeah, right! And a very professional one, at that.
I read one "response" on here about repossessing the car you went to such lengths to hide" and it made me laugh. They will NEVER find the car in question in our case - ever. It is only one of multiple vehicles we have - the rest paid for. This one would have been also if not for a problem with the vehicle that the manufacturer wanted to play hardball about. Fortunately for us, we will probably end up owning it free and clear without making another payment thanks to these clowns. Our attorney is enjoining the finance company and the auto manufacturer in the suit he will be filing shortly against these folks. And he doesn't lose - ever. He's handled many, many cases such as these. He is based in Houston, TX and gets a LOT of practice!!
A note to DJB - learn how to conduct business legally and you might get a little further. As another consumer above so eloquently put it - you aren't dealing with uneducated people who live hand to mouth and scare easily. There is a whole new nation of people who have run into serious financial difficulties because of the depression and economy in the country. You, however, for the most part, ARE that uneducated, bully tactic public you seem to think you're dealing with. Good luck to you. You can call our phones, spoof the numbers, call family members and friend - all of whom are aware of the what the situation is - and you're going to get nowhere. And as far as "finding" the vehicle in question - it won't happen. Not in this lifetime. We don't drive it and haven't driven it in a couple of years. It was just an extra vehicle, anyway - a tow behind our RV vehicle. We'll win this war - but it's fun fighting it with you - you've been a less than admirable adversary. Your harassment and barrage of phone calls on the couple of lines (of multiple) that you seem to have access to, and the "spoofing" of our phone numbers has been amusing.- Caller: Dunn, Johnston and Brown

- Stop The BSA dumb ass name Steve Mendez called a few days ago from the same company, trying to track down an individual regarding a vehicle. Mendez tried to use a scare tactics and threats of contacting the individual work place (a clear violation of FCC rules and regulations) with me by saying the individual took the vehicle across state line (as if it is illegal to do so. The F-ing vehicle is register under this individual name, therefore, it can be move to any state). This Mendez guy think that I gave him the right information, instead I just played him.
I know all along that this F-ing company (Dunn Johnston & Brown) is just another extension of a collection service that the bank hired to recover their losses. There no real investigators in the company, just a bunch of dumb, non-educated fools who works on commission.
This is the company direct line: 972-226-1333
I did a minor research on Steve Mendez and this maybe his personal location and phone number's: I could further the investigation on Mendez, cause I have clearance with high resources at my finger tips, but I'll wait to see if this Mendez guy would act stupid (in criminal term's).

- RepoGurl| 1 replyI have read this whole thread about DJB. I DO NOT work for this company! But am contracted out to repossess vehicles for them from time to time.
They are a company that does work for Lenders to recover skip accts, meaning people who dont pay their vehicle notes, who have either moved, or think they are sneaky enough to hide their cars. They in turn do skip tracing on these accts, thats where the many phone calls come in, to either friends, relatives or anyone else who they might have down as a reference to these debtors who dont pay. When they find leads to recover an account, they send them to a repo company, and I'm more than happy to pick these vehicles up for them, hey... it pays my bills. The people at DJB are just doing their job. As I am just doing mine. I do know tho how some people can come across on the phone, be overly demanding and what not, but I've never had a problem with this company. Everyone I've talked to in their office has been very pleasant. My only suggestion is.... contact management at DJB if you come across someone that is unprofessional. It does absolutely NO good to be rude with people on the phone. Thats my story... and I'm stickin to it! - STOP LYING DUMB JOHNSTON & BROWN replies to RepoGurlSMH. How much did you guys have to pay her to post this. LMAO!

Be careful who you contact it may be the wrong person. I recorded the conversation and filing a report. this is harrassment. my friends and family were contacted and this is ridiculous. i was asked why i didn't want to give my phone number and called them blocked.....seriously dumb ass, why would i give you my number if it had nothing to do with me??? go to hell cause you are about to!

- Lisa Womack. replies to Ashley TurnerThat is funny because When I look up Dunn, Johnston & Brown with the Texas Department of Public Safety / Private Security Bureau, that name is nowhere to be found. The Owner, Mike Johnston may be a Licensed Private Investigator, but the business is not. This directly violates the Texas Occupational Code and it is also punishable by a crime in the State of Texas, especially when employees, who are actually skiptracers are allowed to refer to themselves as "Investigators". What they do is try to find people who have defaulted on their car loans and once found, they hire independent repossession companies to take possession. This clearly puts Dunn, Johnston & Brown under the realm of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Would they be looking for someone if their car loan was not past due? I encourage everyone who has been negatively affected to notify the Attorney General in their State as well as the Attorney General in their state and the Texas Private Security Bureau at the following website:
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/psb/
The address to Dunn, Johnston & Brown is:
346 Oaks Trail, Garland, TX 75043
Owners name is Mike Johnston and the VP is Ray Taylor.
I suggest you quit calling my daughters work or you FATGIRL Ashley Turner will be in big trouble. And girl they don't serve Bon bons in jail heifer.
