- operation repo replies to BB| 1 replyThis whole discussion is great!...very funny and very typical of dead beats trying to find a legal way to beat the system. I have been in the collections buss for 18 years now and i have seen just about everything. It is very true....pay your bills and these actions probably wont happen. Dont let, or give your name and add. as a reference to your dead beat brother in law or family member and you will probably never here from a firm like this. Quit trying to blame everybody else for your bad decisions you made outside of your budget. And finally dont borrow if you cant pay back accordingly. I just find it so amazing how the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is brought up as a defense in you defaulting. Just give the vehicle back to the rightful bank or finance company that trustingly gave you the money to buy it!! And stop the code of silence of hiding these dead beats because you feel sorry for them and dont want to see them loose there car. Do the right thing and help the right people...not the looser that lies! I have a new system that will eventually close in on all of you liers and scammers and people who hide and people who wont open the door to be served by the constable and people who shoot the repo man because he is the so called scum taking from the poor innocent lady who was a first payment default and used her earned income credit from her out of wedlock food stamp fed children to pay for this down payment and then go home to her hud assisted 2story brick house and open the mail and get her ssi check.....its called RecoveryTech, PlateScan...go ahead and go to walmart...I dare you!...go to yo sista house!!...eventualy you will be caught and recoverd...just like gps trackers we are using now...so funny when they just cant figure out how you found them at walmart..!....its all gotten so political like this and had to get to this point because of people like this who try to use and abuse when in default and mis interpit the laws set aside to acualy protect the consumer.
- John in NCRec'd. a VM from an "Investigator Donaldson" to please return the call at 800-072-0776 x259. No other info left. The number on my caller ID was 972-226-1333. I did a reverse number look-up and found out the company was Dunn Juhnston & Brown in Richardson, TX. I have no plans to return this call thanks to all of the info here.

- Randy replies to Ashley Turner| 1 replyAshley (or whatever your name is) you couldnt investigate your way out of a paper bag. Quit calling people and trying to pass yourself off as an "investigator". Let me give you an example; You called my mother's residence and asked to speak to my father who passed away over 20 years ago. IDIOT! FYI, the vehicle you were trying to locate (which also belonged to a recently deceased relative) was turned over to the bank, sorry you couldnt get your "finders fee." Also, sorry you are unqualified to get a job with a real law enforcement agency or investigative firm - maybe you would have more of a chance and wouldnt be pushing 240 lbs if you'd turn off Dawg the Bounty Hunter, put away the KFC 21 piece bucket and hit the treadmill.
- Randy replies to Our practice is ...| 1 replyThat is all fine and well, but at least hire people who do thier job with some class and without misrepresenting themsleves. EXAMPLE- "Ashely Turner" claiming to be an "investigator" calls harrassing a relative of mine whose husband had just committed suicide. Then this "wanna be" calls an old family friend (from 20 years ago) and states "We ar looking for ******** ********, her husband recently put a gun to his head and blew his brains out". Classy organization! BTW, I got a great deal of satisfaction personally turning my deceased relatives vehicle over to the bank. At least that fat lying cow "Ashley" didn't collect her "finders fee!" Good thing she has a WIC card!

- Gotcha replies to Ashley TurnerThe funny thing is that once a site like this gets around the responses from obvious employees do little to persuade the future people they will be calling that this place is of a fine, upstanding value. Personally, this is a reflection of scumbag leadership who allows their employees to do pretty much anything they want (which is why we have employees going out of their way to legitimize their actions - some very foolishly).
For all those out there who don't like the calls, be sure to ask the person calling you who the bank is that hired them. Then go out and find the banks phone number (google) and submit an entry on this very site for the banks number and use the following:
"I will never do business with (bank or credit union name) because they hired (name of skiptracing agency) to find someone I know and I was harassed, threatened with scare tactics and had my personal identifying information (name, address and social security number) compromised in the process"
The point is to put pressure on the banks and credit unions who hire them to NEVER do business with them again as this bad publicity will surely get around to a decision maker who will read it and will definitely put some separation between their bank and this company. Skiptracing companies like this can’t survive without banks giving them work!

- CaseyThey called looking for someone with the same last name as mine. Sounds like bill collectors to me!!! Even if I knew the person, I wouldn't give them their number. It's just rude to waste my cellular minutes looking for another person. I'm tempted to turn off my voice mail. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!! And they keep calling!!! Can I send them my cell phone bills????
- Caller: "investigations"
- Call type: Debt collector
- Jhill305To all debtors a little helpful hint. NEVER call a 800# unless you know where it goes. Toll free numbers will unblock any number I don't care what call block you use. The person paying for the call has a right to know who is calling them. The BEST way to hide is get a PREPAID cell.
- Jhill305A skip trace company DOES have laws that MUST be followed. The best way to stop calls is call the lien holder and complain, threaten LAWSUIT! 3rd party disclosure is 3rd party disclosure.
- Call type: Debt collector
- OMG| 2 repliesI mean really this ashley is something else on these postings and the company that she works for. I have actually read all 9 pages of questions so I think I have figured it all out... Dunn Johnston and Brown is a skip tracing company trying to locate and recover the accounts for the lenders. IF the skiptracer has takin the correct course then they are ALLOWED to call them selfs "investigators" but as a firm or company they can not UNLESS they have there own license to do so. I think that if enough people complain on this company then something will happen. But alot of the time people dont think before they talk... ALL I CAN SAY IS RECORD ALL CALLS FROM THIS COMPANY, keep in mind that if the other party is not aware of recording will not stand in court. So again they do not want your money at all they want the car, truck, jetski, boat, trailer anything that is considered a vehicle thats what they are looking for and what more way to make money than to recover it. That is how they make it they scare the public that is close to the location of maker and hope that some one will squil like a little piggy she is to get her money.. Hope this helped LOL
- Usedtoskip replies to OMGI can say from experience and this was 9 years ago that, the company being discussed was a good firm. I enjoyed working there and never had issues when calling people to get info. I was respectful and in turn made a nice living. Life sucks for everyone once in awhile and everyone has a job to do wether they like it or not.
I really feel bad that you guys have gotten the wrong person on the other end of the line. One bad call looks like it has set the wheels in motion against this firm.
They are not debt collectors, they are "investigators" aka skip tracers. This is a very lucrative business if done properly and professionally. I feel bad for all the bad experiences that have been had by all. - Dave Briggman replies to OMGIf you're in Virginia and one of these [***], like Ashley Turner, call you, you're permitted to record all phone calls WITHOUT advising them...they're calling into Virginia so Virginia and federal law controls your ability to record.
And I've called these people...the receptionist confirmed the company is a debt collector. As such, they're subject to all provisions of the FDCPA.
Under the FDCPA, a collection agency is only allowed to contact one third party person one time to obtain any contact information needed to reach the client directly. Therefore, if a collection agency contacts a third party person more than once or multiple third party individuals, this would constitute a violation. If the collection agency has already made contact successfully with the client, then at that point, it’s unnecessary for them to be contacting anyone else. - Dave BriggmanThe FDCPA only applies to “debt collectors,” and under § 1692(a)(6), a debt collector is defined as: “any person who uses any instrumentality of interstate commerce or the mails in any business the principal purpose of which is the collection of any debts, or who regularly collects or attempts to collect, directly or indirectly, debts owed or due or asserted to be owed or due another.” Therefore, an entity must comply with the FDCPA if it (1) is principally in the business of debt collection or (2) regularly attempts to collect debts, either directly or indirectly.
You guys decide whether you think these bogus investigators are just skiptracing, or trying to collect either a debt, or the collateral securing the debt. It's pretty clear to me what they are.
I believe that since the receptionist admitted that they're also a debt collector, that they probably are and as such this case demonstrates that they are subject to the complete FDCPA, not just the parts relevant to repossessors:
http://www.garymerenstein.com/FDCPA_OutlineByGaryMerenstein.pdf - angel in va replies to lametI just did it ...and a little more.these people will stop harrassing me oneway or another for a bill i dont owe.
