If a car needs to be shipped, don't do it!!! Do not transfer money through eBay for a car on Craigslist or any other web site selling cars. Do not believe any stories about the military or sick wives. Do not assume if the contact is female that this isn't fraud. If the deal seems too good to be true, it is.

I agree with you. I look at NY and think at least 25% of the ads posted are related to this scam, including the auctions. I am doing all I can to get Craigslist to change their policies in order to make it more difficult to commit this fraud, but when they don't seem to care about two New England women being killed via their "Erotic" section, I don't have much hope.

The more people we have onboard this fight, the better. I just don't think people realize just how many ads are BS. They look for their 4Runner, see the one ad and get suspicious, not realizing there are hundreds of other ads (Accords, Civics, BMW, Navigators, Pathfinders, Odysseys, maximas...) that are from the same group of scammers.

I'm seeing a new trend. The scammers are using a "CARFAX" graphic to make their ads look legit. The one I'm looking at is:
