A lot of times when you get telemarketers that 'hang up' on you it's because they are dialing(via a computer) several numbers at once and if someone answers(lucky them! LOL) the system hangs up the rest of us till next time!  That's why you may get several phone calls within a short period of time from one number that keeps hangin up on you...or so I was told after one company called 6 TIMES in 3 minutes!!  I was livid and asked what was up!! HTH!!

Hey I got that call too...they said they were from Kansas City Public Television and wanted me to make a donation of $100.00 to them. I don't believe them but offered them $50 and said mail it in the mail. They also wanted my credit card number, type, and more.

They also said they were down 194,000.00 in money; I don't believe them.

They are calling on behalf of charitable/non-profit organizations, therefore they are NOT bound by do-not-call lists.  When they call I ask who they are calling about, then when they tell me I write to that org and tell them I don't appreciate your marketing and you won't be getting any more donations from me.

These people call about three times a day all week long.  The few times that I have answered the phone, the computer calling hang up right away.  We have the number blocked (phone rings once then hangs up on caller), but they still keep calling.

Thanks!  I just got the same message.  "Courtesy call from PICK please call ..." No, I did not return the call since I lost my job and have no free long distance. Thanks to this website for helping me weed through these awful calls!

We got calls from (801) 484-1107 on our cell phone also - every day for about a week now... no message... no clue .... We had gotten calls from(412)622-7387 every day for about 2 weeks prior to that and finally found them online as Public Interest Communications - We the called the number, got a recording about how to remove our number from their list and did that (it said it could take 3 days to get us off the list) We got one more call from (412)622-7387 the next day and since then we have gotten the calls from (801)484-1107 -- obviously same group - every day... I don't know how we can stop these since they are representing non-profit groups (that's the loophole for the No Call List) except to go their website and check every client they have and write to any of them that you have donated to and tell them that you DO NOT APPRECIATE THIS TYPE OF SOLICITATION. Maybe they will eventually quit using them!

This company called me at 7:20 p.m. on July 1, 2009.  I used *69 to retrieve the number and Googled it, finding several complaints on this Webiste.  (Why Kansas City Public Television would be asking for donations from people in Arlington, Virginia, is beyond me.)  I filed a complaint with the National Do Not Call Registry because I've signed my number up to be on that list.

This call came in at 8:21 p.m. on July 2, 2009.  It is the same number that called me yesterday.  I *69ed and Googled it, finding this Website. Seeing all of the other complaints, I filed a complaint on the Do Not Call Registry (which I'm on and shouldn't have received this call in the first place.

Well, my phone is a CELL phone. And the Do Not Call exemptions (charity, politics, etc.) don't apply to cell phones. They are not to be called unsolicited EVER. Yet I get these calls from NUMEROUS numbers 5 and 6 times a day, if I'm lucky. There needs to be some way to identify cell phones so they are not called. Under some plans, people have to pay for incoming calls, plus it's ten times more annoying to get these calls while you're in the car, at lunch, at work, walking the dog, whatever, than it is to get them on your land line at home, sometimes many rooms away, often when you're not there.

It would be one thing if these people EVER left a freakin' message or a number to call back. But they don't. I do NOT answer my phone when I don't recognize the number. I figure if someone REALLY wants to talk to me, they'll leave a message. This phone used to be a land line and used to belong to my 3-years-deceased father. Most of the calls are really for him, and he can't answer them, obviously. If I ever got a live person, I could tell someone this, but ...

Some of these organizations I might be interested in donating to but not if they waste their money on this most annoying, frustrating and inefficient way to raise funds. If they can't call me directly or write me -- even e-mail me; I can usually recognize spam at a glance and hit the delete button -- or at least insist that their contractors use live people OR an automated message with contact info if you want to donate, so at least the person being solicited knows who's calling, then it doesn't exactly make me feel like donating to them.

As for the Do Not Call registry, I never got as many telemarketing calls pre-DNC as I get charity calls post-DNC. It's actually made things worse, in some ways. Every time I get one of these calls i do the reverse look-up thing, and almost all of them have comments indicating that someone asked to be taken off the list, and they WEREN'T. So I'm not sure how effective that is with the majority of these organizations. And that's assuming you take a lot of time out of your busy day to track these people down, get a contact number or e-mail addy and go to the trouble of requesting that your name be dropped. That's way more time and attention than this deserves. The burden should be on them. Every call should include an automated message if you don't answer, with information on how to stop the calls, and every call should be prefaced before it goes on, if you DO answer, with this: "I'm calling for X charity (not Charitable Calls Inc. or whatever the contractor is). If you wish to take calls from this charity, press 1; if you want to be contacted later, press 2; if you want to be TAKEN OFF THIS LIST permanently, press 3. If this is a cell phone and these kinds of calls are not allowed, press 4. If your name is not removed within X days, call 1-800-UR-IN-BIG-TROUBLE to file a complaint."

Please please please, if anyone from Congress is reading this, do something to stop these automated solicitations. Every caller should be required to state up front which charity they're collecting for and give you the option at the beginning to be taken off their list. And there should be a requirement of the phone service providers that there be some device or other than will distinguish a cell phone from a land line so that these types of calls can be blocked. Cell phones are NOT supposed to get automated calls like this. But I get half a dozen at the very least a day. I've taken to putting them in my address book with nice names like YOUAGAIN, SCUM and NUISANCE so I can track how many of these calls I get. I'm running out of names and my "recent calls" box is full of this nonsense. I'm on the Do Not Call list. I've put my deceased father's name on the do not contact dead people list, which members of the Direct Marketing Association are supposed to follow, yet I still get tons of mail for him. So I'm beginning to wonder if anyone pays attention to these lists at all.
