They keep calling me too, when I have already settled with the original company I owe the debt to.  However, from what I understand, they can sue you independently, is this true?

Weiner caine called my business and as I was trying to explain to him that I do not except business calls and that he would have to send a letter of solicitation he became combative and said: "what kind of ..." I hung up before hearing the rest of the rant.
I don't know who he represents, but who ever it might be they may want to scrutinize his businesses practices. After all, who wants to listen to a ranting -perhaps abusive moron- who wants to push a law suit for more money. That would not serve the clients interest well.

They (Cain & Weiner) have been calling me on and off for the last 2 years for a bill that isn't even valid, and that I have already paid for at least once.  Is there any way to get these people off your back? I wish they would just play in the freeway for a while, and then die.

Mean sounding lady has called a few times, but only says her first name and a reference #, not what company she is calling from or what it is in regards to.  If she would leave more details or mail me something then I could respond.  You think a letter in the mail wouldn't be so hard.  And the callback number she leaves is 818-908-6867.
I'm not calling anyone back that sounds like they are going to yell at me.

Received call from 818-347-2700 and a couple of other number that all trace back to them.  Don't owe anyone anything so until someone leaves a message, I just don't care.  If they would like to file legal papers, I'm more than willing to accept...since I've been an attorney for over 10 years.  I'll enjoy entering a record of my calls without messages in Court an seeing their response to a counterclaim of harassment (under the legal term of intentional infliction of emotional distress).  The cost alone to defend the claim will be in the $25,000 range.

Do not ever give "financial papers" to anyone like that.  If they are for real they will contact you by mail and you can check them out before hand.  Never comply with phone calls like this-

I was a ex-worker from Caine & Weiner Collections from many years ago they were located in Van Nuys but now in Woodland Hills. They are NOT scammers they are a real collection agency. It's best to call them back and try to resolve any unpaid debt or if they have a wrong number/person don't just ignore them because they will continue calling. If it's for LA Times newspaper bill they cannot hurt your credit ignore them. If you owe a bill and you gave your SSN to this company like a loan then yes they can report the debt to creditors. Only with your SSN they can forward your unpaid bill to credit agencies. Some can be rude i always tried to be courteous, but either give them another number if they have a work number i know it can be a pain as it was for me before calling debtors. To get rid of the calls either change your number, pay your bill or resolve the matter as courteous as possible

Everyone. I used to work for caine & weiner when I was much younger and more desperate. They are in fact a collections agency and one of the more shady ones if I may ad. I quit after only a month and a half because I could not stand the place/people. Remember that they CANNOT RUIN YOUR CREDIT OR GARNISH WAGES UNLESS THEY ARE COLLECTING A BILL FROM WHICH YOU GAVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. The company handles small and large accounts and loves to threaten, especially with the smaller ones which they have no control over. They do bill collecting for LA Times which is their shadiest operation. They would have us try and collect bills from people that were NOT delinquent and threaten them if they did not pay NOW because then C&W would get a percentage. Remember to always check your legal rights as the receiver of a collections call because you have more control than you think. Collections agencies thrive on people's ignorance of the law, and on their knowledge of how to bend it. They are hustlers & harassers. They are scam artists that work around the law, making money of poverty, fear and people's financial problems. I am sorry to say I was once a part of their juggernaut of dishonesty and apathy.

Also received a call from these bone heads.  Said I owed for the Los Angeles Times paper that I never ever received a copy off!!!!!!  Told them that they perhaps have the wrong person or address and they went off on me saying I was a liar and that they would get me no matter what?  Are they out of there minds?  Harrasment is a federal offense!!!!!!!!!  I too can pursue , and I'm very good at that!

Ms. Ellis has called my office several times (not from the 818 #) and lived up to all of the negative comments on this site. She's threatening, rude and clearly not well trained. When I asked for copies of the letters she claims she sent her response was "I don't scan every letter I send out" and repeatedly stated that she retains no dated record of the letters. I told her that she was acting in an unprofessional manner and she laughed into the phone for a few seconds - proving my statement. I hung up and will be ignoring her calls until she is able to provide proof of an outstanding debt.

Utilities are not government entities. They are regulated by the government. If a bill is owed, they usually cut off the services. If they wished to pursue it further, they would need to file a lawsuit just as any other company. They can not garnish monies without getting a judgment first.

Once again C&W is a real company, do a Google search. If they are being rude ask them to be professional. Don't ask for a supervisor. Most likely you will not get a supervisor and if you do they will say..."pay your bill". Know your rights and don't be intimidated. If the bill has an error with the company you owe, kindly say the company made an error and get it fixed ASAP. C&W are aggressive but never should be rude. If you feel they are being rude then ask them to be nicer. Be nice or you will get a aggressive collector. Cussing at collector's never works. Read the laws and you will know how to get them to stop calling. Don't lie about paying a bill because the calls will keep going through. Once again, they can only "proceed" against you if they have your SSN. Changing phone number's works for a short while until a trace is done. Fix the problem or face the constant calls.

I got a call from them claiming I owe DEX phonebook for an advertisement done in there. Well for one we do not advertise our company at all. We also do not air conditioner parts which is the area they put us in the phone book. (That explains all the calls wanting air conditioner parts needed). We never signed a contract with them. They claim it was a vocal contract yet there was no proof. They have 0% proof. We are a BBB A+ rated company and not once have been late on a single bill. Yet if you look online you will find many people with the same problem with DEX billing them for no reason.

I filed with the FL State Attorneys office and they know about this company already. If they call back we can sue them for harassment since the state attorneys office took over this fraud case from DEX. Seems DEX phonebook is going around billing people for being in their book and didnt get signed contracts from any of them. They just stick you in the book and expect you to pay.
