    Attempted Scam Victim
Same situation as everyone above. The robotic voice calls me by my first and last name claiming to be Anthem. The fake Anthem asks that I call back to discuss "important information."  I was happy to find these comments on 800notes that prevented me from calling back the mysterious robotic voice. I called Anthem and confirmed both the caller ID number and callback number were not part of Anthem. Interesting how long these comments trace back and yet this scam is still ongoing. Furthermore, it is concerning this happened shortly after obtaining Anthem insurance. It is even more concerning because Anthem is known for data breaches. However, some on this part of 800notes stated they did not have Anthem. Perhaps this caller is making an educated guess based on statistics after obtaining other information? For example, the ACA limits the amount of choices one has to obtain health insurance. If the caller knows statistically that in a certain region people under or over a certain age had Anthem. I'd prefer this scenario rather than the scammer directly having certain data.

Caller ID shows "Anthem- unknown number." Same call and phone number to call back as everyone else has reported. Have had several messages left on our answering machine over the past few weeks for different family members. They've left messages on our landline for only the ones actually having Anthem. Our family has multiple Anthem plans purchased through Healthcare.gov.  Maybe THEY'VE been hacked? Extremely troubling.

Why hasn't Anthem put a stop to this? Or, at minimum, why hasn't Anthem came out and told its customers either there was another breach or these scam artist are likely guessing at the information by other means? As the person said above, I did not have many options for coverage that satisfied the government system. Perplexed.  Anthem, please step up to the bat and do something.

Ranting your disappointments about them here certainly won't get you any answers, but perhaps asking them on their website might.

Called Anthem directly from the number on my card and they confirmed it wasn’t them. Furthermore, since I got my insurance through the marketplace, they said if any information did need to be verified, healthcare.gov would be the ones reaching out, not Anthem!

Same as other reports. I messaged Anthem directly through my personal account portal and will not be calling the number back. The call came from a 978 number but they left this number as the callback.

Many on here have asked them through phone calls and online. Apparently, that doesn't get answers either.

How do you know "Many on here have asked them through phone calls and online"? Are you a mind-reader?

No. Not a mind reader. Just a regular reader. Scroll through previous comments. Some mention messaging the company online and many mention calling the company to point out this fraud call.

Also, you make a solid point about not knowing these specific question were asked. However, when multiple customers call or message a company about an issue it is not a stretch to suggest it is time to address the issue more thoroughly than simply informing that the numbers listed are not part of the company structure. This is particularly true when the issue is on going for as long as it has been. The need to address these questions at this point is self-evident.

I'd say Mike H agrees that one should "address the issue more thoroughly" than the speculation and idle protest exhibited by the "Perplexed" commentor. As suggested I did review the thread and I count perhaps a half dozen, and not "many", persons who either dialed the subject phone number or contacted Anthem directly. The insurer's CSRs reportedly disagree on whether the calls are to be trusted. No one in this thread has dug deep enough to determine their purpose. In fact, the transcript on YouMail states that someone "need[s] to gather some important information from you", not that Anthem has information to impart as some call reports here say or imply.

Given the foregoing, any conclusory remarks of "fraud" and "scam" remain unreliable and inconclusive, despite the caller's annoying but possibly necessary secrecy. Time and again I've read of front line reps of whatever company claiming that a teaser phone call is "unrelated" or suspect without verifying internally. Large companies house endless departments and they don't all tell each other what they had for breakfast. They may also hire outside vendors for legitimate call campaigns, further clouding the story. I suspect that the correct authority at Anthem has not yet been tapped to respond.

Received call this morning around 9am. Nothing was different from other reports.  Computer message mentioned my name and the need to discuss important information. I have sent Anthem a message through the portal, but I have not received a response. Obviously, Anthem has not had enough time to respond. However, I doubt the number is legitimate.  I am tempted to call the number back and "verify" fake information. For example, if they ask a birthdate, give them a fake birthdate to see if they catch it or consider it "verified."  If the "fake" Anthem says the fake information is verified then this will suggest a likely fraudulent nature of the phone call.

Echoing other posts - never been contacted by Anthem by phone. Got this call out of nowhere. Robotic except for my full name. They only called the one time. Not returning the call.

Perhaps you did not actually take the time to find out if there were any answers ever given. I am not sure what it is you think they can do about scamming/phishing calls made on spoofed numbers, other than address it to members as they did here several years ago:
