It matters not whether it is a legitimate source or not.  All this number does is call me about 3 or 4 times/day and never leaves a message explaining who they are or what they want.  I get way too many phone calls from different places for different reasons to answer ones I don't recognize.  I'm sure not answering a blind call from a 800 number and I will NEVER return a call to someone who NEVER leaves a message.  It's smacks of a telemarketer or a scam to me.

The FCC promulgates through Rule 21-12 an organization called the National Do-Not-Call Registry.  This law has teeth in it.  Persons calling "cold" must first check to see if the number is in the Registry.  If they do not, and enough people complain to the FCC, they WILL be arrested and put up for free in Fort Leavenworth!  Fine and prison time/

I got a call just now from this number. They wanted to speak to my husband, who passed away in 2001. then they asked to speak to me, they told me they were a collection agency from Quest and that they were collecting money. When they asked me is my address was so and so, I said yes. Hello, the address they read off was from 20 yrs ago and I was not about to give them any information. Also, I haven't had any business with Quest. This is a scam. I called my doctor and they have had other people call about this same phone call.

Thanks for the info, they just called me and the information they had on me, like address, was from 20 years ago, plus they asked to speak to my husband, who passed away in 2001. I didn't give them any new information, except to tell them the man they were calling about had been dead since 2001. That shut them up really fast. I told them they needed to get there info correct and not to call me anymore.

I have been getting calls from these "debt collectors" on and off for weeks. If it were legitimate, they would leave a message or send a letter. Besides, I have no debt! It is a scam, so beware.

I keep receiving calls from this number and they do not leave a voicemail.  I am glad that I looked up the number before I called it back.  I see that others are receiving calls from the very same number.  Thanks guys and gals for the heads up info.  I'm going to figure out how to block this number from my phone and not worry about it anymore.

    Karl -

Most every debt can be sold as they all carry with them assignment clauses.  Retrieval Masters is a 100% legitimate debt collection company, one I have sued before and I am pretty close with their General Counsel.  Additionally, all debt collection agencies have Spanish speakers, in fact it is preferred considering the amount of people in this country who only speak Spanish.

    To everyone on this board,

If you receive calls from a debt collector, the first thing you should do is call an FDCPA attorney.  There are a plethora of things these companies do, and don't do, which violate the FDCPA.  Good FDCPA attorneys charge nothing up front and get the client up to $1,000 in statutory damages.  A good example is the second post in this thread.  That is an FDCPA violation.  I have gotten clients cash payouts for just that type of circumstance.

That would not be the first thing to do.  Get a debt validation letter from them, Your only interest is to drum up business for attorneys.  Your motivation, in my opinion is purely selfish.

Just wanted to post this # 844-505-3328 in case anyone else out there gets a call from the same #. I have heard that any # with an area code 844 is a scam and whatever they have to say at the other end is NOT TRUE so don't fall for it. Better yet if you have caller ID just DON'T ANSWER ANY # THAT HAS AN AREA CODE OF 844. NO BULL !!!!!

I just received a call from this company asking for me- it was a guy with an Indian accent advising that he was calling from AMCA

The lady that called had such a strong accent and she couldn't understand me. She kept repeating some script and saying I owed a lab corp (blood testing before surgery) bill to which my doctor said that they should not be reaching me. I have no idea how they got my person information or why this Lab Corp is trying to double charge.

You have at best a fictional view of how nuisance phone calls and debt collectors are regulated.

The FCC does not have authority over debt collection. It is described as "the United States' primary authority for communications law, regulation and technological innovation."

    FCC: What We Do
    https://www.fcc.gov/what-we-do

Debt collectors are in the wheelhouse of the FTC and CFPB, which oversee matters of trade and finance. Merely filing complaints will not lead straight to enforcement actions in criminal court. None of the above agencies are so empowered. They file *civil* actions, unlike something at the level of the DoJ.

Debt collectors have no need to scrub the DNCR since they are not sales callers. The federal Do-Not-Call registry exists to help enforce the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Please note the operative term ''marketing''. A debt collector is not a sales person and is therefore not covered. The few remaining state lists share this limitation. Here are the DNCR service terms you were supposed to review at registration time:

National Do Not Call Registry Q&A
    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry

NOW .... If you would like a law which *does* apply, Congress passed the FDCPA decades ago to give citizens the tools to dispute and sue, again in civil court only, their own collectors.

Sitting and wishing does not notify the collector of your desire, which is your right.

I've been receiving calls from this number. It's constant. Funny thing is I have no debt nor a single credit card to my name. They apparently don't know how to make themselves seem convincing. Why call a ghost in the credit system? You must know I owe no one any amount of money because I always use cash and don't have a credit score. What a joke lol
