Says they are debt collector.. bad info.. pretty sure it's a scam

Called as debt collector. When told I was unemployed an unable to pay at current time, then asked about how frequently I look for jobs and if I went today.

Called would not leave a message.

Asked for me I said this is she ...  He then said for identification purposes I've needed my birthday. ... I informed him I was not going to give it to him and asked who he was?  He kept saying man I just need to verify.   I hung up.   Pretty sure it's a scam

People calling from this # 8445540404 has all the classic SCAM features in my opinion. Do not, I repeat do not give them any of your personal information. Hang up !

844-554-0404  Left message...from Wakefield & Associates a debt collector call 1-866-878-7953.  This is a scam.  This callback number is also a scam number.  A live person answers and proceeds to ask questions. I told him that I just paid off all my debt so this is a scam.  He hung up.

I got a call from 844-554-0404  and they ask if  I was some name and I told them they had the wrong phone number ,then they ask if I knew that person and I told them that I said they had the wrong phone number and I am not in the habit of lying and hung up.

keep calling and this is the first time they left a message.  called from 844-554-0404 and told me to return the call to 866-878-7653.  i would not give them my # for them to verify from.  i hung up on them.  i have not debt, nor have i received any letters to that effect

Called to speak to my husband.. said to have him call back ... said it was important... think he said his name was Steve or something ... didn't hear him that well..

Received a call from 844-544-0404. A man left a message but I could not understand a word he said.

Called and asked to verify my info, refused to say who he was with or why he was calling. He said he had to verify my information before telling me anything. I told him I would not verify anything without knowing who I am talking to, and all he would give me was a first name, no company name or anything. I'm not behind on any bills, so I'm pretty sure it is a scam.

I don't ever answer. Someone calls from that number a couple of times a month. Today it was Joseph from Wakefield & Associates. A debt collector.

You put a smile on my face. I too got a garbled voice mail and couldn't understand a word except the name John.

Who are these people? He said he was from "Wakefield Industries". I've never heard of that in my life! And he had the last four of my social! What the heck?!

He called my phone, my daughter answered and i wasnt available, asked who he was, would never tell me and avoided my questions. He was very rude and had a terrible attitude. Asked for my info, I wouldn't give it so he started being very rude with a smart jack kind of tone so I hung up on him. Call blocked his number.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.59 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
