I just listened to my land line messages and had a message from an indian accent man named shaun miller threatened that there was an issue with a complaint filed with the IRS and to call him and left a phone number 2x  i tried calling and it said to check the number you are dialing.  It sound like a threat i was going to be completely responsible form something if i did not contact him.

I recv'd a call from a Jonathan Moss about a debt my deceased husband over 10 years ago, he had our ss#'s address, my phone #. How can I be responsible for a credit card that I did not sign up for or use because I wasn't allowed by law to sign for anything bought on said card!

Even if the debt were legitimate (and you know it's not), they could not come after you for your deceased spouse's debt UNLESS you co-signed for it or live in a community property state: Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Ty you for the reply, I knew somewhere in my head that this wasn't right, but I called the damn # anyway! He gave me till the 17th to reply as to whether  or not I was going to send $200.00 on a high balance! And no I didn't co-sign, I think he had the card before we were married 25 years ago!

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
