- TomThey called and left a message to call them a they had information for me or someone at this number. They cloned there number as 714-689-6798. Any company that or person that calls our numbers will only get a call back with proper identification. We were scammed by company sometime ago and now request everything in writing. they have to prove what they are calling about. If it is debt then they need to provide all the details with authorization to act. The fact they clone their number makes it a scam. what are they hiding?
- Tom replies to KAny threat such as to arrest you is illegal. They need to remember that they are in the US you can not be arrested for debt. Report them to the Attorney General.
- TomThey called again from a cloned number 714-689-6798. Why would one need to clone their number unless they were doing something illegal or wanting to steal from you. Company's like this need to be stopped. If they are debt collectors they should have to always have their caller ID showing name of company and all and required to leave a message every time.
- sick of this crapI haven't been getting phone calls, I get emails! Aren't legitimate debt collectors supposed to mail you info?
- In Debt| 1 replyTotal Account Recovery. Missed several payments. Made payment arrangements. 855 868-2577. If you owe money make arrangements and pay it.

- anon replies to In DebtWell, yeah. People should pay what they owe. But only to those debt collectors who have complied with federal law and MAILED proof of debt/proof they have the legal right to collect said debt within five days of their initial contact. In other words, people should NOT pay any caller just because they say so. To do so is very foolish. So you're either a shill or have been scammed.
- In Bebt| 6 repliesReply to Anon: Thanks for your concern and to make sure I called whom I was originally in Debt with. They verified Total Account Recovery was the only debt collector they had and was sent to them. Question, what is a shill? Happy Holidays.

* If one is called by a collection company, the phone call is not legal proof of debt. The collection company MUST send the supposed debtor WRITTEN (snailmailed) documentation within 5 days of the call. (FDCPA rulings)
* The BBB gives the company you mentioned a grade of "F"

* The phone number shown at the top of this thread IS that of Total Account Recovery, LLC - anon replies to In BebtYou missed the point - which is, debt collectors must prove - in writing - that you owe that debt to them. The alleged debtor doesn't have to call around and find out who he/she owes.

- BigA replies to In Bebt| 2 repliesOh by the way, we would have never heard of these thieves and criminals if it was not for your stupidity in posting here as a shill, so here goes. Total Account Recovery-BBB page with an F rating: http://www.bbb.org/kansas-city/business-revie ... xa-ks-99159319/
looks like Sal Abbott is listed as the head crook.
Bizapedia page, they have 4 listing in different states all formed this year, which I would like to mention is that they were formed in Delaware in April of 2013. So this means that they started stealing from people as soon as they decided to form a new corporation for their criminal enterprise.

So have a nice day there twerp! - me too replies to BigAI just received a call from this number, but never answer calls from 1-800, -866, -855.... it is all telemarketers or debt collectors-often for things you never owed, have paid, or should have expired.
I agree fulsomely with the others that notice in writing of your debt: when it began, what you have paid, who it has been sold to, etc., is the only time you should ever even talk to these people!!!
If you never answer, how do they even know who your employer is? they cannot garnish wages or bank accounts without a court order, and courts are unlikely to do that for small amounts, or debts that have expired.
Get call display and don't talk to them!!!! They will spin what you say into a "refusal to pay" in which case you can be taken to court and held responsible.
They have insurance to cover bad debts, so if you really needed money and then can't pay it back, they don't lose anything. But, it should not be made a habit of.
Here is to everyone never needing another pay day loan, credit card, or anything else. May we all make a living that can support our basic needs!!!!! - BigA"They will spin what you say into a "refusal to pay" in which case you can be taken to court and held responsible. " They would need much more than that to take you to court and for you to be held responsible. Just because you said you wouldn't pay something is not a valid claim in court. It might be part of the evidence, but you would not be held responsible simply on those three words.
"They have insurance to cover bad debts, so if you really needed money and then can't pay it back, they don't lose anything. But, it should not be made a habit of." The have insurance? What company is providing this? Do you have any proof?
if you made the debt you should at least make an honest attempt at paying it. I realize that sometime circumstances may prevent this from happening. The problem is that many creditors such as credit card companies do not want to accept this fact and do not want to help the debtor actually pay the bill. Even when they do offer discounts, it comes at a cost of a 1099.
Your post was ok until you got to those two sentences. Never post conjecture, only verifiable fact. - SC| 5 repliesGot emails on my personal account and a call at work from Total Account Recovery (855-868-2577) - I used Everest Cash Advance a couple years ago for a bridge loan. Paid $962 on a $500 advance (I know.) Have records to prove it. They are claiming that it wasn't paid.

- Elspeth replies to SC| 4 repliesThis is what the Government says about this type of scam:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors
Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

http://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcfpb/1699/h ... legitimate.html - Collector God replies to Learned My Lesson| 3 repliesSo, point of order, you are saying that you solicited ( presumably you researched them like you have since being put into collection) knew they were not licensed to make loans in your state and instead of doing business with those licensed in your state. You instead, took out a loan with the company mentioned and then proceeded to accept the funds and then did not pay them back on purpose. Sounds like YOU sir are the shady company here. Free money huh? Pathetic
