I just got the same check. I haven't had a Wells Fargo account since I was a teenager. I definitely thought it was a scam or that someone stole my identity.

I agree not a scam. I just got off the phone with WF they were able to tell me what car note it was from and why and when. I had already THOUGHT it was a scam and trashed my check so they are replacing it. :-)

And yet you came to a phone number look-up site anyway. Why would you do that? You sound like a shill.

I called the Wells Fargo customer service number, which I looked up, because I was still skeptical after reading these comments.   I was transferred to another number and she asked me the account number on the bottom, the check #, the Payee and the date and confirmed it was an outstanding check that had not been cashed.  She even gave me a reference number for the call.  She recommended anyone who has questions whether their check is valid to call 480-394-3122 (the dept I was transferred to) to call them and ask for themselves as there are scam checks out there.  I hope this helps.  (I've been sitting on this check since March thinking it was a scam.)  The Wells Fargo # I called was 800-869-3557.

As has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, the smart thing to do would be to take the check to your bank and have them verify it's legitimacy.

I found out I'm getting a letter from Wells Fargo Auto. I called WF Customer Service, and I was told to call 1-866-295-7056. I don't have an account with WF, so I don't understand why I'm getting this letter.

I received this, dated July 14, 2020 and signed by Muneera S. Carr.  I will still go to my local WF branch on Monday to verify.  I was charged a late fee that I shouldn't have been charged and WF was caught scamming customers for years so who knows.

I also received a check and a letter from “Wells Fargo Auto”.  It was for an auto loan I had 29 years ago and had since paid off the loan and sold the car over 15 years ago.  It was a check for $47.69.  The most suspicious verbiage in the letter was the following: “If the late charges were not already paid, the refund may be used to pay them in the future.”  This loan was paid off and closed; there are no “future” anything’s for this loan.  It is a poorly written correspondent from a scammer.  The ‘Wells Fargo Auto’ address at the top of the letter is “P.O. Box 5143 Sioux Falls SD 57117-5143”.  That address is for a branch of a company named ‘Ionex Telecommunications’, not Wells Fargo Auto.  However, ‘Wells Forgo Auto’ have 10 branches in Sioux Falls none of them are at the ‘PO Box 5143’, which is the address on the so called ‘reimbursement letter’.
The phone numbers are fake and so is the Cashier’s Check.  DO NOT CASH IT.

Just spoke to Wells Fargo fraud.  Not the number on the letter.  They confirmed that it isn't a scam and that it is legit.  Cash away.

It really is from Wells Fargo. I work for a legal firm that is handling all of their legal matters. If you read anything about WF or heard it on the news a while back they are in a big lawsuit and people are getting their payouts. Literally all you have to do is go on the WF website and search the program your letter came from and there it is! Most people google stuff and they dont get the proper information. If you are to google anything google WF law suits. Or just WF customer service.....OR just call the number on your letter or even go on the website thats on your letter.

It is not FRAUD! We are a Law firm called EPIQ that is assisting with the WF lawsuits.

For anyone who thinks its fraud or they look up the number or address and it doesn't say Wells Fargo retained to assist them. Epiq is a third party company that Wells Fargo is working with to issue payments and provide assistance and you can read more about both companies at www.epiqglobal.com. We are Epiq Class Action & Claims Solutions, a national leader in providing fully integrated services and technology for class action, mass tort, and claims administration. We are commonly hired by the parties and/or appointed by the court to perform a multitude of services, such as mailing class members notice and claim forms, creating case websites, operating a call center to handle questions from class members, responding to class member emails and correspondence, processing claim forms, and issuing payments to class members with approved claims.

***********Just follow the instructions on the letter or just call Wells Fargo customer service SMH

Not a scam.  I received a $49 check from Wells Fargo Auto exactly as others described here.  I was about to toss it, but decided to call Wells Fargo directly to verify (the number for Wells Fargo can be found on their website under Personal > Auto and speak with an operator).  The loan was for a car I bought in 1996.  What a nice surprise!
