Maybe, maybe not. The number might be spoofed, in fact, that is most likely. The important thing is that is NOT Wells Fargo. This is a scam, no matter what the shills here are posting.

    Scam Letter
The Scam Letter I received a letter from Wells Fargo stating that they could not open my account due to missing and inaccurate information.  I contacted Wells Fargo Fraud Department, someone tried to open an Account in my name but they only had m PO Box number and not my physical home address, I had to fill out fraud forms with Wells Fargo, and close the Account that was opened in my name.

I received a letter asking me to cash the check that they sent a month or two ago. After reading all of your comments, I decided to go into a WF office. The check is indeed ligit and they are in the process of reissuing me a check. From a former car loan almost 8 years ago. A very welcomed surprise check.

Wells Fargo lost a class action lawsuit for overcharging folks on their auto loans. They had to pay billions back to their customers. Honestly it’s been over 3 years now. since now.  Cash it because it’s your money

I received two letters from Wells Fargo Auto July 1, 2022 and July 5, 2022 with two separate cashier's checks enclosed. I called the toll-free number. Customer service Rep Ms. Pala said it's a refund to me, asked for the check #s so she can open accounts. So I gave the check numbers.  She took 3 seconds to respond, then asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN and DOB. I told her I prefer to provide the account number that's on the check not my personal information.  She said that's the only way to verify your account, and give you history about it. I said I never ever have or opened an Auto policy with Wells Fargo. She said maybe you did 30 years old. I said no ma'am my memory is good. She insisted to transfer the call to someone who can better assist me.  She said visit any Wells Fargo bank ask them to cash the checks, and they can assist you. I said don't think so! I said this is a scam and you are a scammer. I ended the call.  I recommend you shred the letter and do not cash or deposit the checks.  You will have to pay a check fee or possibly other hidden charges. I repeat this is a scam.  Scammers are out to trick you.  The correspondence isn't professional written and Wells Fargo logo is fake on the letter.  Please be aware of the small details.

We just rec'v a check from WF also and we couldn't remember having a WF account so started doing so research and found this string.  The number on our check is not the same as above but I believe it still relates.  After more research I found the following info. The Address (PO Box 5143, Sioux Falls, SD) is not listed as any of WF regular office addresses, but it does come up as Wells Fargo Auto in more searches. Their main Corporate office is in San Francisco, CA.

The Phone # on top of our letter 888-753-3042, is in regards to the WF GAP Insurance Settlement. We did have a WF Auto Loan with GAP ins years ago.

The settlement resolves a long-running dispute over Wells Fargo's handling of GAP agreements, an optional form of insurance coverage offered to auto loan customers that is supposed to protect them from loss in the event the vehicle is stolen or totaled in an accident. This extra insurance caused many people to get behind in their loans and some had vehicles repossessed.

The minimum cash payment for each Eligible Call is estimated to be approx. $40, but could be as high as $5,000 per call depending on how many claims are submitted. The settlement checks will/were automatically mailed to each class member.

There is a Law Group in NY/NJ that has posted the following: If you or someone you know receives a letter and a check from Wells Fargo do not cash it or sign the settlement agreement that may be attached to it. (We had no Settlement letter needing us to sign) Instead, you should immediately call 216-373-0539 oremail the experienced attorneys at the Dann Law firm to schedule a no-cost consultation. We’ll review your loan documents and if we learn you’ve been cheated we’ll begin fighting for the money you need and deserve.

Now, just because I’m thinking our check may be real, doesn’t mean all checks rec’v by others is real.  You need to do your research to check for legitimacy before you cash any unknown/unexpected checks received.

We are unsure what we will be doing with this check at this point but will definitely be doing more research before we cash it just to be safe.

PS: The current Chief Accounting Officer of WF is Muneera S. Carr and that is who our check is signed by.
