I just got one of these in the mail today and I can tell you its a load of bull because I A) haven't even come close to the 36,000 mile original warranty on my car (and who would be stupid enough to fall for an "expiration date???) and B) I have the paperwork FROM my dealership that gives all the details on my extended warranty that I got when I bought the car.

Actually the letter does not say that there will be a $2000 fine if ignored! Did you even read the letter at all?  Or are you just reading it for what you want it to say?

NO NAME? I have one of the letters in front of me, and the first thing is says once you open it up is Motor Vehicle Services!!! THE NAME OF THE COMPANY!!!  Why is that so hard to understand?  The company is an auto warranty broker!  Motor Vehicle Services Represents many underwriters, which most are sold directly from dealerships.  That letter is simply an offer.  Its simple!  Just because you don't understand does not make it a scam at all.  The scam is your dealership charging well over $100 dollars and hour to repair your vehicle.

By the way, just some FYI!  You're "DEALERSHIP"  is that Chrysler, or Ford, or GM, or any other manufacturer for that matter.  They are an independently owned and operated company that simply sells cars and parts, and for a nice profit if I might add.  Call you're dealer and ask them if they sell warranties other than from the manufacture and you might learn something.

Gold Key Warranty is one of the underwriters (Warranty Companies) that Motor Vehicle Services represents and handles marketing and sales for.  And yes Gold Key Warranty is listed with the BBB under Automobile Consumer Service Corp.  A rating with the BBB! Been in business since 1977!!!

Well if you read the letter for what it says rather than what you think it says, you will see under where it says comment.  This is word for word, "This letter is to inform you that your factory warranty has or is about to expire and you may extend your warranty coverage on the vehicle.  Your extended warranty coverage offer expires on xx/xx/xxxx.  Now let's read this carefully.  If you do you will see that the expiration date is not your warranty expiration date, it is the offer expiration date. That date is the final date to purchase extended coverage with Motor Vehicle Services (A warranty broker).  If you have an extended warranty with your dealership then that fine, though if you did some research you might find that the warranty your dealership set you up with might very well be one of the exact same companies motor vehicle services offers.  Dealerships are not the manufacturer. They simply sell their vehicles, parts, and services.  They also sell many other warranties.  Does that make them a scam also???

This IS a scam and they DO NOT list their name anywhere on the mail they send out.  I am a postal employee and know these scammers very well.  This is mailed from Ft. Lauderdale Fl under first class permit # 792.  Stay away from these dis-honest unscruplous people and also stay away from anyone who defends them as they are mixed up in the scam as well

These guys are jerks.  If they are legit, put the name and address on the letter.  Don't just say "Your warranty has expired,"  Freakin' Jerks!   Get your facts straight beforehand and show yourself.  You guys deserve to be punched in the mouth.  My warranty is fine and intact.  I'm sure some people actually fall for your stupid tricks, but beware the public will catch on.

    Ripoff Report Verified Safe
A mailing arrived with a postmark from Fort Lauderdale FL. claiming my warranty had expired.
I called the 800 number and was told that they held my previous warranty and that it had expired a couple of months ago. In order to recieve a price to extend my warranty they needed the mileage on my car. When I called back with that information I again asked when my warranty had expired. This time the response was ' Looks like your mileage gotcha.'
Two different answers in less then 5 minutes. Sounds strange, so I get a price of $3000.00 to extended my warranty. I know something is wrong so I say I'll call back by noon.
I get out my original warranty info and find out that I am still covered and it is not through Certified Dealer Services. I called back and told them it was wrong to try and rip-off consumers, that they lied to me and repeated their lies back. They had the nerve to ask if I needed anything else.
Within 10 minutes of calling them they called back and starting harassing me and using vulgar language.

I received the letter as well. I see all the complaints about it not being a legitimate company, but I have yet to see a complaint by someone who was actually defrauded by the company. I'm just curious...is it possible that the reason is that their customers are actually satisfied?

I think they must be trawling consumer credit reports. The letter I got was nice enough to state that, but you have to read the fine print. I HATE these guys. After the phone calls and now the letters...

I received a mailer bearing this phone number today.
To those who rise to the defense of the company against those who warn of a possible scam, consider this:
I wouldn't call them a scam if they had sent a letter like this:
    Dear _____,
We noticed that you purchased a used car recently, which may or may not have warranty coverage from the dealership.  If you want to make sure that your vehicle will be taken care of in the unfortunate event of breakdown, please give us a call and we might be able to offer you an extended warranty that could save you a lot of money in repairs.

Do they send a letter like that?  Nope.  Instead they do this:

In the return address on the outside of the card they print

    Warranty Assurance
    2000 DAEWOO

No company name (unless they're going by Warranty Assurance these days), no address on the outside of the card, just a stamp indicating it is prepaid by Permit #792 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Inside the card there is a grid made out to look official, that says "EXPIRATION:  07/03/09".  Now I'm no dummy, so I know that's the expiration of their offer.  However maybe other people might not notice that and call up right away and get hooked into something that they don't want to buy.  Maybe the extended warranty coverage is legit, who knows.  I won't find out because I won't buy it.  But if this company wasn't preying on ignorance or the confusion of the elderly, they wouldn't make it look like an official document from the dealership.
That's what makes it a scam.

I recently purchased a certified used Honda along with and extended bumper to bumper coverage. I then received TWO notices just like noted above - I was concerned that the dealer did not register the added coverage - so I called the dealer and they said to ignore the notice, it was a scam and when I said the post mark was Florida she said then it was definitely the 3rd party scam they had heard about.

By the way, I have an extended warranty on my other Honda and have been very happy with it - it has already been worth the investment.

I too got this letter with the number to call 1-866-341-9255 to extend my coverage. What I don't understand is how the hell they get this info, I mean the make of vehicle, year and address etc? How is selling them this information? The dealer I bought my vehicle from or the bureau of motor vehicles? Apart from these two people who would know that you bought a vehicle of a particular make and year and where you live? Or are they digging my trash cans?

Ok. Now that you informed us has to where on the letter the company name is located why not give us the company name? I'm looking at the letter and there's no company name. They all say they are a"Nationwide Agent of Vehicle Service Contracts" Wow... Yes, there are people who are "terrified of life" but the truth of it is that there are people who do want to scam us. Send us a letter with a letterhead and a website would nice. Not just a phone number. Its not hard. Stick with companies that will gladly give their customers all the information that is needed.
