Popped up on my computer that critical information had been accessed, and that if I called their number, they could fix it for me.  Google Chrome.  Obviously not going to do that.

Same thing happened to me a moment ago.

Same thing just happen to me just seconds ago. Running a full scan on my computer. It was not an incoming call, it popped up while I was on my PC the same as Kate. Stating I needed to call and freeze my bank account and any other accounts that had to do with money. I am going to run a system recovery also. Not calling that number.

Same as above. Called from non-biz phone. Middle eastern or Indian accent.  Tried to convince me that he worked for "a service " provided to "all major brands".  No logo or copyright stamp anywhere on their pop-up red screen. I let him know he wasn't legit and hung up. System restore.

Received pop up same as other. I was  on a cooking website and a big red blocked popped up saying Google Chrome error (?) and call this number.

Yup, same red screen popped up with the number to call. I was on Wayfair.com website looking at bed covers!

Same as all above. Red pop-up screen from "google chrome" appeared on my desktop. I didn't call phone number but googled it on my phone which brought me here. Thank you for the info, all.

Same here.  Looks like it's happening to to a lot of people just within the last few hours.  I think we should all take the time to call this number talking nonsense to this guy and waste his valuable time.

This is a scam - work in IT, and see this all the time.  This number will go to a call center in India, who will claim to be a Microsoft technician.  They will try an convince you that you have a virus, and they will help you if you open a case with them - you just need to provide your credit card info.  Shame, the people who will fall for this are the elderly and inexperienced, two groups that should are shameful to take advantage of..

The website you were on probably got hacked.  I was on overstock.com when it popped up on my screen.

This "hacked" thing is over used.  That stuff is delivered by ads on these sites.  It is put in because you have no protection from ads, popups, Javascript and Flash, so it enters easily.  I have all that covered and have never had one of those pop ups yet.
