Same experience as all above. I was on Trulia website when red screen appeared. Chrome locked up. Used Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to close Chrome, then reopened and selected Restore. All open windows recovered. Red screen window was still present but now I could close it. Everything else seems fine at this point. No noticeable performance change. I have Webroot SecureAnywhere, so will probably initiate a full scan this evening just to be on the safe side.

Hello the number is ours replies to Hong
However the scam is not. We are trying to find out how and why they are giving out our number. We are a government contracting company outside DC. Sorry they picked our phone number and your computer to hack.

I got a red alert on my computer that appeared to be from Google, was told to call this number. Definitely a hoax. I took a screenshot and ran a full scan. Everything okay. I called the number and they wanted to connect me to a server. I hung up on them.

Same thing happen to me one day ago. It was a pop up while I was on my PC. Stated I needed to call and freeze my bank account and any other accounts that had to do with money. Same as Ryan; I called the number from an undisclosed number. Middle Eastern or Asian accent. Guy was acting weird about the purpose of my call. Clearly wasn't legit, told him so and hung up. Ran a full scan on my computer and checked all  my accounts.

Not a call but a chrome page phishing msg with this number 1-866-368-2344 . I got a Chrome screen freeze when I tried to open a page, after shutting down in task manager a few times I got a page in red with "Google Chrome Critical error. The firewall seems to have blocked it (?) but I could not open any other tab as well. I reported to Google Phishing

Yes I had been on Wayfair and then Overstock which 2 other people here were also on. Screen locked up & had to reboot. Took a long time for Google Chrome to come up. Thought I wasn't getting it back due to this so-call Trojan Virus. Use to get the Microsoft warning too which is basically the same thing but I haven't got that for about 9 months or so. Would like to disrupt their day but not worth it.

Same as Kate (above).  Appeared on computer screen.  Husband told me to check number and found all the similar statements calling it a SCAM.  Wouldn't think of calling that number.  So tired of all the scam phone calls, as well.

I sincerely hope everyone who reads these comments realize this is a dangerous scam.  I got it using Google Chrome with Windows 10, but other sites show they also lock-up on MSN with the same "please call us immediately" warning.  Ctrl/Alt/Del should clear the screen through Task Manager.  For peace of mind, run your anti-virus on full scan.  Do NOT call them back.  They're Indian/Pakistani/Bangladesh trying to get remote access to your computer.  Finally, a couple of other sites I checked also show an alternative number as 833-802-8800.

I was setting up my brand new computer and the first time I got on Microsoft Edge the same message appeared. I had bought the computer at Costco so I called their concierge service. They said to put the computer through a complete reset which I did because it's brand new and I got to do nothing else on it! With the computer having McAfee free for a year and Windows Defender I figured it was a hoax but better safe than sorry. When setting up the new computer it said something about McAfee and I told it that I didn't want it knowing that I have Windows Defender. Does anyone know that if by disabling McAfee that something really could have got in? Same phone number though ending in 2344 so you know it's a hoax of some kind

Same experience as everyone else with the red pop-up screen that does not want to go away.  I shut down my computer after I thought I had closed out the screen, but there the message was after I fired up my computer again a few hours later.  Just to be on the safe side, I'm now using the Firefox browser instead of Google Chrome.  The one thing I can add to what has been said is that, if you parse the message very carefully, you can see flaws in their use of English that are a good indication that the message was not professionally drafted by a reputable company.

Shut down the computer. Restart it normally. MacAfee has nothing to do with it. It is definitely not a Microsoft certified company putting that message.
Windows defender is okay. I use Avira. German anti virus software recommended by the computer techs where I bought my laptop. It is free or you can buy a 25.00 prime license. Where I bought my computer those techies swear by it.
