I recd a voicemail message from this number, and was skeptical. Phoned 5th Third Bank to verify, and, yes, it is a legitimate company.  Someone used a fake card to purchase a cell phone. Because we no longer need a PIN number, the fake card was swiped, just like a credit card. What amazes me, is apparently this person or persons tried twice, unsuccessfully, to purchase a call phone, and it was denied.   How the charge got through the third time is beyond me.  ....but definitely, call these Fraud Protection place back.  They will provide you with the steps to get your account cleared up, and you don't have to give them your card number or social security number. You DO have to provide the last 4 digits of your card number to your bank, and also, the last four digits of your SS number to the BANK, just for security purposes.  I was just going to blow that voicemail message off. Glad I didn't.

What I would like to know is where this office number is located. I called and have been on hold for some time, if this is the an East Coast number is what I would like to know. Maybe the next avalible agent hasn't made it into work.

its a scam - the calling number was 513-900-5280. They said to call back 866-442-0251 that my account is blocked. They gave a ref # to call back. Never answer their calls or respond to v-mail threats. They Scammers.

It's legit. I called customer service and asked for the phone # for the fraud department.  It is in fact 866-442-0251

Look on the 53.com website and you will find 866-442-0251 listed under the fraud department contact numbers

go to fifth third banking online and look at their Q&A it says that this is the number for there fraud department so unless a hacker got in there and changed everything around its legit. would still recommend calling the bank first and having them transfer you. you should also get a text first from a 5 digit #

Just because the number might be legit, it doesn't mean that the caller is.  As you said, always call the number on the back of card and check.

I believe it is a scam called never identified themselves. said i had a suit against me but yet i received nothing even collection agencies send you something in mail before threatening a lawsuit.  when i called back still they did not identify themselves but stated something about a bad check but thats the part I knew it was scam because I haven't written a check in over 10 years.  I only use debit card.  i googled number said it was 5th Third Bank which i do not bank or and never have.  but somehow they had my husbands number and my moms.  Havent used my mom's number in over 20 years so not sure how they got that.

SCAM sent message to my sons PREPAID  phone and provided last four of card that we don't even have and  nor do i do business with that bank also called number and it doesn't ring??? Scam scam scam a lot of you people need help. You probably do a remote connection on your pc when the fake MICROSOFT calls and says your pc is sending them error codes. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Not a phone call from 866-442-0251, but a text from 337-48 saying to call 866-442-0251.  Instead called main customer service number for 53 Bank.  There was fraudulent activity and they did block my card.  Only asked for last 4 digits of SSN.  They are a 3rd party contractor that serves 53 and other banks.
