- snyper replies to Former ConServe associate| 1 replyI'll give you an 8/10 for accuracy of content but your attitude sucks. You are so condescending that it makes me want to vomit. It's people like you who make people like us not want to deal with bill collectors. Perhaps if you could learn how to treat people properly, your (the debt collection field) would not have such a bad rap
- Former ConServe replies to snyperYou know what??...you are 100% correct. My tone in that post was condescending and I don't want it to sound that way. This is not an excuse, but it is extremely frustrating to really want to help people get these kinds of things taken care of and then read comments in forums like this. You probably love the company you work for and what you do for a living as do I. If you were to jump online and read so much negativity you may have a similar tone, but maybe not. I'm sorry that it came off that way. Most of the negative comments that are posted here just stem from years of frustration and I get it, talking about finances with a complete stranger is a difficult thing to do. The real problem in the student loan industry is that there isn't much advertising or educating people on all their repayment options before they take out loans. Just a bunch of fine print, a sign here and here and you're in school taking classes....then they graduate, can't find a decent paying job and just ignore the bills that are sent instead of picking up the phone and explaining their financial situation to their loan servicer, then all of a sudden things spiral out of control because the damn interest on them is calculated daily! Add to it that there is no tangible object to take away for non-payment and people immediately toss them to the back burner. The majority won't call in to take care of it until they either need more financial aid for school, had their taxes/SSI/etc offset or their wages garnished and by that time their loan has ballooned to 3x what it was because of interest and penalties. Then when they do call in they're usually extremely surprised at how little they would have been required to pay to avoid all the negative stuff.
- Calls & hangs upDoes Conserve have a crush on me?
Or are they this unprofessional with everyone?- Caller: Conserve
- WitchyWoman| 5 repliesCalls regularly, never leaves a message.
Now, that being said:
My student loans are being paid as they should be and I am NOT in default.
My husband's student loans are on deferment and likewise NOT in default...and will not be when they come due later this year. We have it budgeted in.
My late husband's loans were fully discharged after his death, and I have 3 sets of papers to prove it.
None of our children are in college yet.
So, why are they bothering me? Good question...because this is what they get paid to do: bother people with random calls. - Conserve buys bad debt, replies to Sumtingwongand then tries to collect through phone intimidation. No wonder they are so frustrated.
Oh and the collection fees? Owed to the originator only. Subsequent purchasers of bad debt (bottom feeders) are just attempting to pile on.
Good luck with that. - ? replies to IndeedWho is Ed?
- Why don't you get back to work... replies to Anon...randomly calling people & asking them for money?
- Settled it| 8 repliesDid some digging on department of educations loan i had and found a way to settle my loanfor less than I owed. I've had an annoying loan that my social security has been paying back each month since last year. I got sick of them just taking it so I called to figure out what to do and they gave me this number to conserve. I got to only pay 90 percent of what I owed and I already got a letter saying paid in full I should of just done it years ago but whatever it is done now, if any of you have your social security taken call and fix it it's easy
- anon replies to Settled it| 7 repliesNo thanks. You "got to only pay 90 percent of what" you owed! Wow, what a deal! <sarcasm>
- Answer the phone replies to WitchyWoman| 3 repliesPerhaps your husbands deferment has expired and the account has defaulted. Call and find out.
- Tamianth replies to Answer the phone| 1 replyWhat part of this statement didn't you read besides all of it? This is what she said:
My late husband's loans were fully discharged after his death, and I have 3 sets of papers to prove it. - debtpuncher replies to Answer the phoneso death is a temporary thing now that can expire? OMG that means I can have multiple lives!!!! :/ end sarcasm
- yep replies to anon| 1 reply..and you get taxed on what was "forgiven"--no thanks
- debtpuncher replies to yepwhats worse is getting a 1099C for involuntary debt/fraud such as medical bills or repossed vehicles
- Settled it replies to anon| 4 repliesYeah but it was better for me because they were taking 180 a month from my SSI and I found out they were also charging me a fee each month to take my money so I just settled it with a credit card now my SSI isn't being taken and erican express can't take it so I just pay them 10 follars each month it is hard because I don't have much money to live on
- I call [***] replies to Settled itAnother fake post from a Conserve employee......
The first $750 per month of social security payments are exempt, more can be exempt in hardship cases.
And taking on a credit card debt with no intent to repay is called FRAUD. You aren't advocating that people commit FRAUD, are you? - Tamianth replies to Settled it| 2 repliesFakeroo is right. The only person who can touch SS/SSI is the Federal Government themselves and that is only for tax's and back child support.. Suck it up cupcake! another epic fail of the shill!
- MTQ replies to TamianthChild Support cannot take SSI......
- Conserve Employee replies to WitchyWomanIt's also possibly just a wrong number (perhaps the person who previous held the number was Defaulted, as an example), or you're on an account as a reference for someone. If they aren't leaving a message, you have no way to know who the call is for, and I would recommend finding out if they're trying to call you/your husband or it's just a wrong number. From what you've said in your post, it's more than likely just a wrong number, but they'll have no way of knowing that unless you tell them so.
- Conserve Employee replies to TamianthThe Department of Education cannot offset SSI, but they can offset Social Security
"The government cannot take any amounts you get below $9,000/year or $750/month. No more than 15% of your total benefit can be offset.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) cannot be taken. This is very important because collection agencies will sometimes claim that they can take SSI. This is not true and it is the type of statement that violates fair debt collection laws. Other benefits that the law says cannot be taken include Veterans Benefits and Benefits under Part C of the Black Lung Law."
