Yes. It was legit. Did not answer the call because did not recognize the number. I called my credit union and asked if it was from one of their departments. Yes, it was. I had tried to renew my antivirus online this morning. The billing was from outside the country and the bank wanted to verify my attempt to charge.

I have received several calls from this number during the last 2 days. The recorded message asks if I am a certain person and states that there may be fraud on my account for Generations bank. I have had the same phone number for 13 years and do not have an account with this bank. I am not the person they ask for and I pushed number 2 to verify this so they would stop calling, this only brought up a bunch of prompts and I hung up....only to get another call a couple hours later. I can't imagine someone giving my phone number for their account, so I considered this a spam....and am about to put a call block program on my phone.

This is Legit for my college Higher One Account. We tried to order a Red Box movie. Didn't ask for anything but my last four and to verify my middle name. Went over some transactions to verify they were done by me.

You will see my post above. I have an account my college tuition goes into. I tried to use my card at Redbox and it flagged my card because redbox is apparently owned by an Illinois company. Because I'm in Washington state this alerted my bank (Higher One). The representative only asked my middle name and the last four of my social. He then asked if I made the charge. He then asked about charges at a few other stores. I told him I did make those and he took the alert off my account. This isn't a fraud. I didn't give an account number or anything. I'm guessing the people that get messages for folks that are not at that phone number must just be an issue with someone creates an account and doesn't enter their telephone number correctly. I work in customer service and that can happen very easily. This is real not a scam. I am real. Google my email terrismith425@gmail.com. You will find my twitter f.b etc. Never give out to personal of information over the phone. However don't suspect this is fraudulent because I had a good experience with them.

I received this call and was scared that it was a scam. I looked at my bank website to find out more.  The only info they asked for was my billing zip code. Then it listed two transaction that I made. I went ahead and confirmed it. The process outlined on my bank's website and the process I went through were exactly the same. If something bad happens, I will update this entry

I don't have a bank account, and never purchase anything online or with a credit/debit card, and they still call about five times a day. I just ignore them every time. Should I? I don't want to give them my zip code or any of my personal info.

I did call my banks fraud division, all of our cards are there, we pay cash for our cars because of my annual bonus & house is paid for using mortgage broker tricks(extra payments). So, really who can it be?

My bank is Wells Fargo. The fraud division says "WE HANDLE THESE CALLS INHOUSE". They checked the number. It's not theirs. My account was also fine for charges and attempted charges. It may be legitimate, but how did they get my name & number on a 3 DAY OLD CELL PHONE?

Got a call from them today, stating they are a fraud protection company who has recently detected possible fraudulent activity on my debit card.  They knew my name and the name of my bank.  Oddly, the number was listed as coming from China.  I did not take the call, but listened to the VM.  They will be blocked on my phone.

I too got a call from this number, Twice. And 2 VM's to 2 different people.. I thought it was a scam so I called Visa and they just connected me to my credit union. Since my credit union wasn't open, I asked my mom whom works for them. She verified that the number in fact was the same number I had to call before, when my card was stopped for buying Facebook game credits. When I called the number back and gave the 6-digit code from the VM, it started listing charges. When I couldn't understand the second one it said, I didn't press any keys and after a couple seconds, automatically connected me to a live person whom had all my account info. I verified 5 purchases and that was it. All were me. Not sure why people are calling it a scam, if you're not sure, you can always call the card company's # (like me calling Visa) and they can connect you to your bank/CU's fraud line, or call your bank/CU.(during business days) Since I didn't want to wait until Monday, I called the number since my mom verified it was a legitimate call/number. They thought a recent expensive purchase could possibly be fraud since it was a 1st time purchase from the merchant(West Marine). This is the 2nd time I've had to verify purchases, thankfully after the 1st one I had updated the numbers and that's why they called my cell#. I'm glad someone's looking out for me, but someone like me that's always checking my transactions it can be somewhat of a pain. Not sure who the other person was/is they tried to contact, next time they call I guess I have to tell them I've had this # almost 4 years and that they cannot be contacted from this #. Funny how Visa asked more info about my account than the Fraud Protection my bank uses, yet people call it a scam lmao. If I would've ignored the call like last time(home phone volume was off), they would have shut my card completely off again. I hope this was helpful.

You people sit here and argue beating a dead horse ! It's SIMPLE !

Call the Number on the Back or your card for ALL BUSINESS issues or go into a local branch ! SIMPLE !

NEVER give out ANY personel info UNLESS it is a legit number from the back of your card or from the banks website ! SIMPLE ! PERIOD END OF STORY PEOPLE !

If you get a call from a number that your not familiar with, hang up and call back so that you know your dealing with your financial institution ! Don't call a number back that someone you don't know gives you or your caller ID shows !  Look up the correct number from known resources and call back ! Yes it's a little more work and if it ends up being that the original caller was legit just apologize and tell them your just being cautious ! It's a fraud department they will totally understand !

In this era of computers and cell phones, scammers can hijack legit numbers and make legit numbers show up on your caller ID when it's not the number your really talking too ! Scammers can break into phone switches and do all sorts of things that's why if you call a number you have researched your safe !

NEVER NEVER NEVER give out personel info to incoming callers ! Again like many others have said, your bank has this info and for verification purposes they will only ask for the last four numbers of your SS number ! If they ask for the entire number BE SUSPICIOUS and never give it !

LAST BUT NOT LEAST . . . . Take care of and continually educate and remind your elder friends and family members to never ever give out any of their info ! They often get confused and pressured into giving their info to these scum bags ! What kind of low life p.o.s. preys on our elderly and steals their money they have worked an entire lifetime to earn and save ? ! Really ? These scum bags should be strapped to a tree and shot right between the eyes ! Better yet staked to a bed of red ants in the Nevada desert and left there to die a slow death ! Yes extreme but I HATE thieves that steel from the working class because they are too lazy and stupid to go out and make their own money ! Get a phuking life !

You are right ! If you get a call hang up on them get the number yourself to your bank or credit card company from the back of your card or off of their website or out of one of those old fashion things called a phone book and call them back yourself like you said ! This way you know you're covered !

And AGAIN . . . . . DON'T EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER give out personel info to any caller ! Your bank or C.C. Provider doesn't need you and WON'T have you recite info they already have ! Like you said they may ask for the last four numbers for security reasons but NEVER EVER the entire acct numbers or SS numbers!

If you give out your personel info to these low life's, sorry if you get scammed but you have it coming !

It really sucks that we have to constantly live in a defensive mind set but unfortunately this is the 21st century and this is one of the many negative side effects of the digital era we live in ! This digital age is very convenient but in the same breath it can bite and bite hard if you don't pay attention !

Good luck out there people and stay alert !

Yeah, i would be suspicious if they asked for any real personal identifying info like a SSN or the entire credit card number. But if they are asking for your zip code? Please, how many people live in your zip code.

I got a call and googled this number. (I never answer 800/866/888/etc. calls)

They left a detailed voice message in clear English. How many scammers do this? Zero.

It was regarding my Debit Card and several recent transactions (One of which was overseas). It was all electronic and all they asked for to verify my identity was my zip code. Then they asked me to verify the last three charges-which unless it was a service contracted for by my bank, how would they know what those charges were?-and I verfied them.

Get real people. Most 800 numbers are scammers but this one is not. And if you don't respond to it, your card will be blocked and you will have to go to the bank and deal with it. That could be a pain in the ass if it is the weekend and you need the $ to buy gas or groceries.

(FYI, I did a little checking. It seems most smaller banks (not the big ones like Bank of America) use this kind of service. It's cheaper than having to run their own. You major credit cards have their own fraud departments because it is cheaper for them to keep it in house.

I got this call after my card was declined twice while trying to make an online purchase.  I called my bank and was told that this is a legit call from MC fraud detection.  My purchase was actually going to Cypress and the bank was blocking all business to Cypress because of the high level of fraud and scams.  My bank told me that this could either be sorted out by them or I should call the place that called me.  I told my bank that I would rather deal with them.
