- LookinFor WrkIn need of a job and received an email from Karen Leibowitz outlining AppStar pre-set LOCAL appointments, uncapped residuals, professional training, etc. Tired of running down empty promises, so I checked online. I will not be responding to the San Diego office of AppStar.....

- Lookin 2I, like LookinFor Wrk, have been engaging the potential of Appstar as an opportunity.
I have spoken with several Client Consultants about this company. Some that currently work there and some that don't anymore. Clearly I've gaged that this type of work is not for everybody. The people who work there seem to be very successful and happy with it. They say if you are good at sales and personable. there is money to be made. The one's that don't, didn't like the process or the way certain things with the merchants were handled.
Appstar is a credit card processing company just like any number of it's competitors. Like any vendor, it has something to offer to a merchant. It's up to that merchant to process whether Appstar or any of the many ccp's like Crescent, Paystar, etc and so forth are best for them.
I've learned that, "yes they will schedule warm appointments for you" but if you really want to succeed you will need to still prospect on your own and try to set your own meetings. Hopefully you get to a point where most of your meetings are off your own referrals. And Appstar does reward for bringing your own accounts to the table.
At the end of the day you are an Independent Contractor which means you really control them. They don't control you as a seller.
The problem with the Appt. Setters is that they appear to be an outside agency, probably a call center, and those people probably have now knowledge on how to conduct a proper sales call.
I'm still evaluating Appstar. We'll see how it goes. - mp replies to The TEA Lime companyHe would probably lose his job if he did that, no?

- GaSunD replies to AppStTar EmployeeI promise you, I am no disgruntled AppStar employee. I would never work for a company the uses the types of "gorilla" sales techniques I have encountered in dealing with people said to be representing this organization. I realize you have a job to do by posting to this site that the information posted by others is not true. I can assure, most of the comments on this site are quite accurate. If you are certain t hat is not the case, you should record all calls and then listen to what is going on.

- salemI have been getting calls from a Mitch Nickell at Appstar fro probably a month or two, and finally decided to do some research. When he called this morning, I came across this site and several others that all said the same thing. For my experience, he was always quite polite, even when he called back today and I asked him to take us off their call list. When he tried to question me about which company I had researched, I wouldn't let him get a word in since I had a shop full of customers and don't have time to coddle a telemarketer, even a polite one. Let's see if they stop calling...

- Matt replies to MattIt was AppStar not AB Star. James was such an [***].
- Mary replies to IndifferentYou worked for their sister company. That is what they do about every year is to start up a new company with a different name so they can go back to the merchants who they took advantage of and sign them up again. Other names are TransTech Merchant Group, Summit, Certified Payments. The later was also fined by the ftc. Please read the following: In the past 36 months there have been 518 complaints with 180 closed within the last 12 months. The bulk of these complaints appear to be divided into three areas on the BBB's website which include 219 complaints for "Problems with Product/Service", 200 complaints for "Advertising/Sales Issues" and 90 complaints for "Billing/Collections Issues".
The history of Certified Merchant Services goes back to the early 1990's. Originally started by Jon and Craig Frankel, Certified Merchant Services, aka Transaction Merchant Services quickly grew and excelled as an ISO. In 2002 the FTC filed suit against the company and the charges included but were not limited to deceptive sales practice, unauthorized fee debits, and contract alterations; you can view the FTC documents here: FTC - Certified Merchant Services. Jon and Craig did eventually settle with the FTC for $23.5 MILLION DOLLARS and sold the company to First American Payment Systems to satisfy the multi-million dollar judgement. Although information was not readily available to verify if it is still true; First American Payment Systems did initially leave Certified Merchant Services as its own entity with Jon Frankel as the President. Several of the companies profiled on this site have ties to Jon, Craig, and Certified Merchant Services as they are operated at executive and director level in many cases by ex Certified Merchant leadership. - Russel Jenkins| 2 repliesListen, we all get pissed off with telemarketers...until they are selling something that you need.
