- braker166| 19 repliesThis is a Collector calling for CIBC collections. They are called Credit Bureau of Canada Collections which is an agency that buys bad debt. Do not call or they will never stop calling you. Also if the debt is over 7 years old, they cannot legally collect it, that is why they buy these accounts to scare people into paying. I keep getting these calls too, but I have nothing to do with CIBC.

- SmarterCompany "Credit Bureau Collections Canada" has named their company that to try to make it sound like they are part of the Credit Bureau itself, like Equifax or Transunion. They are not. They're just a debt collection agency same as any other collector, who can report info to or request info from the actual credit bureaus about you, but are not affiliated with them in any way beyond that. Also, FYI in Ontario the statute of limitations for any collector to take you to court is only 2 years. If they haven't taken any legal action against you within 2 years of the date of last activity (which is: anything you charged to the account - not interest charges - or payment made against your account, or any WRITTEN acknowledgement - not verbal - by you of the debt) then once those 2 years have passed they have no legal way to collect any money from you, and any threats they make to do so are just empty threats. They can't sue, seize assets, garnish wages, or do anything other than call you and send you letters and hope you will pay them. Preventing further damage to your credit rating is the only reason to settle up with them, so if your credit rating is already at rock bottom, then there is no advantage to paying them, the damage is done and giving into their demands won't repair it. If you don't answer or return their calls or letters, in 7-8 years the debts will be removed from your credit report and you can rebuild your rating from there, same as if you had declared bankruptcy but without the legal costs and permanent legal record of declaring bankruptcy.

- JessCalled them back today (i know I know) after 9 months of sporadic calls from them - CIBC or whatever company they are, each time asking me to call them back and leaving me voicemails. Anyways, they finally had a name in the auto-bot recording that called me today and said they were looking for this guy, who is not me ... so, I called them. After being immediately put on hold upon calling in and connecting to their end, the phone did start ringing again after 15 seconds and was answered by a one "ROB" who guaranteed me that my number would be removed from the list. We'll see.

- Batman & Robin| 1 replyIt's CBCC that comes up on my phone's caller ID display they say ("on behalf of CIBC") and refer to themselves as Credit Bureau of Canada Collections. It's rather deceptive to be calling yourself a bureau if not a municipal or government authority, this immediately garnered my distrust in whom I was speaking with. The woman identified herself as "Sandra" I think. She was extremely argumentative INFERRING I was lying as to not being the person she was asking for. She made a point of how many times she has spoken to me on our landline number, she was bullying. Later, she exclaimed "Oh! Is this not a cellular phone number?" This made me even more suspicious as I would have thought any intelligent official would have known that by our number. I was also made suspicious and further argumentative by her rudeness, arrogance and conceited expectation of submissive compliance under bullying - from a person, namely me, that she had not verified as her 'target' (and I am NOT the name she was after - though there is such a person connected to our number, but neither is he the person they are targeting; It takes more than a name to be the right person!) I told her she is extremely rude, etc. She argued further and I reminded her that I had answered the phone asking "who's calling please" and that she had replied with; "Are you 'the target name' completely ignoring me, which in itself is rude. She had repeatedly followed that up INFERRING I was lying as to my own identity, this was too much and so offensive to an innocent person with nothing to do with their business.
I suspected these were debt collectors AFTER the call had ended. However, they could just as easily have been fraudsters. She asked for their 'target's' cell phone number and when I wouldn't give it, she responded as though I was being evasive again. I explained, I don't hand out other people's cell number without their permission! How do I even know you are who you say you are!
She really annoyed and upset me and I am not at all well to begin with having been in hospital repeatedly. I can imagine the stress this could place on an even older and infirm person and those with them. It's a disgraceful and unprofessional way to behave on such little information - a mere name and landline number. They need a lesson in how to research without bullying innocent people all day long. How many others have been upset, angered and possibly even frightened when they have done nothing wrong and owe nothing to anyone.
Their 'target's name' - (the name they are after but not the right person in this instance) then called them from another location and he gave them his home address as - ("without which, for security reasons we cannot discuss the matter" a different woman said to him!) (Were it me, I'd have blocked their calls being worried they were fraudsters after such a crafty and stinking attitude, or just for their attitude in fact!) The woman conversing with him seemed satisfied she had the wrong person as his address did not match their information. Hopefully we'll not hear from these disturbing people ever again. Even if our number had been their 'target's' cell phone, it is not unheard of for people to lend their phone to family or close friends, in which case she could not be any further sure she was not speaking to a perfectly innocent person, but this clearly doesn't bother this kind of unprofessional low-life.
In MY call with this woman, I told her that if she cannot be polite I will not continue the call and I hung up. Remarkably, my phone continued to ring immediately - as she held the line open or rang back on autodial. If reading this, CBCC will know which of their calls this comment refers to and we'll be very pleased if they do! They should hear the results of their indiscriminate abuse.
This sort of thing needs to stop and you can be sure we will be in touch with CIBC further than we have already to let them know what we think about this company's attitude to their innocent customer's and their family members, not from one woman but two from this company, (one speaking with the CIBC customer, the 'target name').- Caller: CBCC (0n behalf of CIBC)

- razor replies to Batman & RobinThey are fraudsters. For one thing,on their robocall, they cant even pronounce the name of the city correctly.Secondly,i am a CIBC customer,so I emailed the CIBC fraud department, and they told me,if they are talking to me and ask for personal information,to hang up and get in touch with them again.I have never talked to them, but common sense will tell you it is a scam for identity theft.
- SammiI get daily calls and they are asking for a maiden name. Haven't used that since the '70s. And haven't had a CIBC in almost 20 years. The loan I did have then is paid in full and I have the paperwork. So I see the number, don't answer and let it go to the fax.

- Lynn Duncan| 5 repliesI have been receiving calls on an average of 4-5 per week at varying times. I do not answer any call that has an area code that I do not recognize or no name attached in my caller ID. I am so tired of this caller. How do I make it stop? I have read other comments that it is a collection agency on behalf of CIBC........I have not had an account with CIBC for almost 9 years and have moved twice since I did, as well as having two new phone numbers. How on earth did they get this number after all that time. Who is providing my information to third party agencies with whom I have no reason to associate? Most annoying, most frustrating and I just want it to stop. I am retired and living my happily ever after........leave me alone.

- AnonymousThe best way to get rid of these collection agency is to call back the number as you have seen their number on your caller ID, saying that you are company selling something and that you where delighted to get a call from them, start giving them packages to select from, then when they keep on asking for your name just say that you don't know that person but since they called your company number that they maybe interested in buying what you offer. They will remove your name and number from their list. Works every time! LOL.
