- BigA replies to Charles DI think Sue hit the nail right square on the head when she said "Bottom line it's fraud....."
- Tammy replies to braker166Yeah I just got this call today for the first time on my cell phone but it was for my husband and they don't say his name is the recording they spell it. That was my first indication something was weird, well that and the fact that neither of us bank with CIBC or ever have. I will warn everyone reading this though...be careful because they ONLY WAY they have my number associated with my husbands name is from Bell Canada. He has his own cell phone number and the only time my number is associated with his name is on our Bell Satelite account. I'm going to call Bell and advise them of this too because clearly this is an issue of THEIRS because whatever this scam is would have no other way to associate my number and his name.
- JimThese people are out to lunch if they think Im answering these calls

Government Action
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
On January 4 2017, Service Aberta announced that they had entered into an undertaking with Credit Bureau of Canada Collections regarding contraventions of the Collections and Debt Repayment Practices Regulations and Fair Trading Act.
It is alleged the company engaged in collection activities on a debt where the last payment or written acknowledgement was more than six years previous. In addition, they engaged in collection activity after receiving a written dispute from the debtor.
The company admitted they failed to comply with The Act, and undertakes they will make every effort to comply in the future by establishing additional processes.
Credit Bureau of Canada Collections will pay to the Government of Alberta $1000 which represents a portion of the cost associated with investigating the matters.

- tjNot only are these people liars, cheats and frauds they are stupid beyond belief. As is their automation system, I blocked their calls six months ago but they keep calling. My blocker records the calls but does not bother me with them. But the automation is to stupid to notice. No skin off my nose.

- BabaI have been receiving calls since April 2017 at least twice a week ... they are asking for a certain person and we have been telling them that person doesn't own the number .. never have never will.... they say they are from collections Canada on behalf of CIBC ... today I got a call so I called them back and when I told them I was going to see my lawyer on this matter the female hung up on me... when this first started in April they offered the person they were asking for and reduction in amount owing of $1000 if they paid right that day... we advised not to pay anything at all... the person then called back and asked for some paperwork to be sent to them ... none was provided.. therefore we surmised it was a scam right then.. I went to CIBC bank today and they told me that it was a total scam.... just as we figured....

- Dave replies to braker166| 1 replyTrue, it is noncollectable by normal sources, but these scumbags will try to get you to admit to the debt, thus enabling them to reactivate the court process. There is a statute of limitations for unsecured debt but it you admit to it, the time resets to zero.
- AnonLet me tell you about these idiots.. calling for over a year..have them on call block.. still call. Calls died down but now increased because credit check done on account for apartment...sooo call started again... only know they called because block registers calls as "blocked".. auto system doesn't know calls blocked..do yourself a kindness and but $2 call block..troubles will go away..i just delete call block log

- Wanda Hawkins replies to DaveNot in Ontario
1) In Ontario, a debt Collector can try and collect the debt for up to 6 years after the last payment was made on the debt
2) In Ontario, a debt collector has two years to take legal action on the debt from the date the last payment was made on the debt.
So, after 24 months, you are free to acknowledge the debt, and they can try and collect for 4 more more years, but they can no longer take you to court to have your wages garnished, force you to liquidate assets to pay them, etc. Keep in mind that by this point, you already have an R9 on your credit report for that debt (put on by the original credit issuer after 6 months) so it isn't like not paying them is going to ruin it any further. - KarySo I get letter today saying "property owner verified" and that "I may have the means to pay my debt"....
Just because I live in a house doesn't not mean I own it duh!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck with collecting a debt that is over 10 years old and that does not show on my credit report. If I was going to be sued it would have happened by now. ;)~- Caller: CBCC

- JessI just got this number, and it's a text plus number. Not even a real phone number. Has to be connected to WiFi to even ring or receive a message. They've called twice now. No message left. I don't, nor have I ever banked with CIBC so it can't be for me. No one has this # to begin with. Annoying.
