- lippygrl10I had the same call this evening one of the caller ID numbers was 1315 and 1218. I don't remember the man's name but I'm sure it was something very american (which he wasn't) like Steve or Larry. Anywho. He told me he was from APEX and that his company was giving out free trip for me and only one other person along with a digital camera. I felt like this was a scam so I started asking questions like "do I have to buy anything, pay anything, go watch something, etc" to receive the goods. He said "no"...I asked a few more times which seemed to iritate him...oh well. Anyway, He started telling me that Apex was a leader in the "service industry". So I asked what specific industry that was...I swear that he kept raising his voice saying that Apex was a leading service company. I kept asking what kind of service company it was as there are many types of service industries such as insurance, legal, phone, etc. I think the lightbulb finally went off and he told me they were a vacation service company. Then he repeated my address to me and he had my last name but needed my first name which I thought was a bit odd that he had one but not the other. Then I was game...if I didn't have to pay anything at all then why not let him mail me trip vouchers that had to be used within one year of receipt. Also, he gave me the same schtick about their being in Las Vegas which apparently makes it reputable then he gave me their customer service number 866-901-8966. bring it on. The next words out of his mouth were that the package would arrive via UPS and that I needed to pay $1.95 from the bank. This didn't register with me so I asked why I couldn't just pick up the item from the depot and pay $1.95 cash for it. He explained that the money was to be paid by check electronically to them to cover the shipping costs of the package. I told him that I would do no such thing and then hung up.
It doesn't matter if you tell these people to take you off their list...it doesn't work so just hang up on them and look for their numbers on your ID. there are so many of these scams out there.
FYI, I did the google thing as suggested by someone prior. My number (every way I listed it) didn't show up so they couldn't have gotten my vonage, unlisted number from google...hmmmmm- Caller: Apex

- AlfalfaTypical useless response by a bank....which is one of MANY reasons why I don't use one anymore. =)
There IS something you can do:
First of all, close your account and open a new one. These scumbags may try and raid it again.
Secondly, file a complaint against them with the FCC. They have used your telephone, in order to commit fraud:
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints_general.html
Third, go to your State's government website and file a complaint with their Office of Consumer Affairs and their Attorney General's Office.- Caller: Apex

- lisa replies to mrswojounfortunetly the ftc cant do anything with the # or company because they are bogus.Ive contacted the BBB and FTC and I have a complaint ref. # they gave me.They said unfortunetly they cannot trace their location because the #'s are from a prepaid card/phone or cell and would have multiple "dummy lines" running from them. They said chances are they are an international scam. They also said they pull your info from other sales companies you would have had info & or services with at sometime. If you dont give your banking location and info to them they cannot steal your money, just bug you by calling. So beware
- jim replies to bmyou gave them the wrong routing number, those are of record, just your account number is yours...
- Melanie replies to KelelJust had the same experience verbatim...
- Melanie replies to KelelJust had the same experience except i won a digital camera and trip. For 1.99 i could have this sent to my home. They asked for the check number i would be sending and when i told them i don't have the checkbook with me they were willing to give me a 'universal' check #1111. Then he asked for my banking establishment all the while using that fake accent that he would forget to use.
- krzy_lk_a_foxMr. "Jerry Wood" employee number 1959 with a heavy middle eastern accent called tonight. The phone number he called from was (514)555-5555. He offered me a trip and camera and wanted the $1.95 s/h fee. When I asked for his address, he refused to give it - getting more excitable as he spoke. At one point, He was yelling into the phone. I got that he's in Las Vegas, NV out of him and I offered to just go pick the vouchers up. He refused to give me anymore information insisting that I just let him send them to me. He did give me his web address which is "http://www.apexservicesonline.com/". It, of course, looks like a decent website. But, I told him it looked like a scam, and he kept repeating, "This is not a scam, this is not a scam!" He then got back to his "script" and again started asking for my bank account information (again). I told him that I don't have a bank account and asked if I could send him a money order. Long story short - it was a scam. Especially after reading everybody else's comments. What does anybody have to gain by giving someone a trip and a camera for $1.95? Stop and think about it... NOBODY gives something for nothing - and $1.95 shipping?? It almost costs more than that to send a regular letter via USPS, let alone a camera and vacation vouchers! DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE!!!!! You might as well give them your check book and or credit card and tell them to have a great time!
Also, the number he gave me to call was 1-866-901-8966- Caller: Apex services

- susan1/30/2008 SAME EXACT PHONE CALL!!!!! Thank goodness that I DID NOT give him any information. I asked him to provide his name and phone number and I would get back to him (HAHA). He decided he would call me back. Since then I have placed my phone numbers on the DO NOT CALL LIST and filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission!!!!! SCREW THEM!!! I suggest that you all file a complaint as well with the FTC.
