Those calls when no one answer is called a "cold call" what they are doing is checking to see what times of the day you are most apt to answer the phone. When you get these calls say hello once, if no one answers press the # signed repeatedly until you get a dial tone or the message saying "if you would like to make a call please hang up and try again..." This makes them think they have reached a FAX number and they will not bother to call you again.

You can file a complaint with the FCC at http://www.fcc.gov and click on the complaints link. There is one there marked telemarketers.

I'm not doing that again, I already broke off one phone's # key.

Calls repeatedly throughout the week. Hung up on me.  Called back, rang, got some elevator music and then dead air.

Got a call back after I hung up on them! So I used *60, option #2, enter number, 6 to end call and buya BLOCKED!  Where you at now shug-night!

Ditto. Answer the phone and they hang up. When you call back you hear pretty music and the it hangs up on you again. What a "Dick" or is it a "Jane"?

He meant to put .gov at the end. So you are NotSmart also. So you did all that hating for nothing. I used www.fcc.gov and filed the complaint.

They call everyday and when you answer there is no body there.   Someone needs to put a stop to all of these calls now.

Calls but doesn't answer when I pick up. Doesn't leave a message. Caller ID says "unavailable."

Same as others.....no response when I said hello....no type of noice on other end at all and no hang up....stupid robo calls!   And in response to the poster that said to let our fax machines answer the call...one has to have a fax machine to do this....most people do not have one, unless they have a business.

Got a call from R3W9this number, and when answered they hung up. Called it back, it played music and then hung up.

Calls and hangs up then calls right back. I have multiple calls IN THE SAME MINUTE! When you call back music plays then someone answers and either mutes the phone or hangs up.

I, too, used the reverse 800-number lookup feature at www.customtollfree.com and found the company listed as Paetec Communications (www.paetec.com). Paetec Communications can be reached at 877-472-3832 or 866-445-5882. The problem is, however, that the person I spoke with at Paetec told me they are just a phone company that essentially leases out toll-free numbers to people, and they have nothing to do with what these people do with the numbers after that. Since it isn't only companies that can have toll-free numbers, but individuals as well, they are not allowed to disclose who is currently using the number.

So, really the only thing we can do is to file a complaint with the FCC or local authorities. Go to:
www.fcc.gov/complaints, and fill out the online form. It takes just a couple of minutes. If you don't want to fill out the form, you can call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) voice or 1-888-TELL- FCC (1-888-835-5322) TTY. I'm sure if they get a critical density of complaints about this number the FCC will be more likely to investigate than if they get very few, so please make a complaint, otherwise my efforts here have been wasted.  Thanks!

By the way, I asked the man at Paetec if the company who was leasing this number would have to pay for numerous calls if I kept calling and then hanging up after the elevator music and click, but he either couldn't or wouldn't tell me that, saying there are many different packages that people or businesses purchase, and some may prevent them having to pay for incoming calls that aren't connected...

Hang up call with no name displaying in Caller ID.  It just has 'Toll Free Call' and the 866 number.

Could be anything from a political or other survey or a scammer.  Anyone know for sure?

Why do these people keep calling and not say anything if you answer, and not leave a message if you don't...only reason I can think of is that they are scammers.
