- Tina RoylesI too have had several voicemail messages from a female with possibly an indian accent, with a slurred/muffled voice with either the name Ann Daniels or Jan Daniels from Book World wanting me to get back to them about some questions they have linked to my book 'When the Apple of Your Eye is Rotten at the Core' she quotes the number =1 (877) 207-1679 ext 322.
I dont have any connections with book world so googled the company and also the tel number as though it would be a scam, and came across the page relating to numerous individuals getting calls from people reporting to be from Book World but are actually from Book Whirl all with different genders/names and extensions etc....which is obviously a scam.- Caller: Book Whirl
- Open Eyes replies to LindaSWhew! Got a call from Jan Daniels too! I googled this number. Glad I did!
- Open Eyes replies to Bruce AtchisonAfter more research, Book Whirl looks like a ligimate book marketing service.
- BWitek replies to BeckyJune 26, 2014 - I also received a call from a woman at Book Whirl. She told me everything their company could/would do to market my book and that an associate would call me back if I gave her a good time for him to call. I just happened to be on vacation and told her my home phone was not good because I have a day job but if she would send me information I'd review and if interested I would contact them. It took 4 days for someone to email me the info (vague to say the least). Which led me to investigating their website, and also google is a wonderful thing because I found these posts.
For me, self publishing, there are just too many possible scams out there and I really don't want to take a chance on someone I've never heard of. Besides, it's not that I don't know what to do - it's saving up the funds in order to do it right. I emailed them back and said not to call my home phone again and that at this time I was NOT interested in marketing services. I'm hoping that will be the end of it. (fingers crossed) - TATI received a call today from Barbara Watson at Book World (whirl) t# 877 207 1679 ext 309. Message left told of how much she looked forward to talking with me about my book and stated the Title. She said she could offer me marketing services. I , as most writers , love to hear that someone is interested in your work, but beware! If it sounds to good to be true chances are if probably is!
Thank you for posting this information, as it confirmed my instincts that this was a scam.
TAT- Caller: Book World / Whirl
- MI got a call two days ago, from Melissa from Book Whirl (but it sounds like World since she sounds like she is slurring) she left me the number 877-207-1679 x323
She wanted to ask me some questions about my book, and then said the title of the book.
Interestingly enough, In all the queries I sent out, none were for this book, and none had my home landline phone number on them. So, obviously they looked me up on white pages.
I second guess everything, so of course I was suspicious. After reading all of these posts, I won't be calling them anytime soon.- Caller: Book Whirl/Melissa
- RGReceived a message from Melissa. I couldn't clearly hear the name of the company, I thought she said Book World, so I searched for it and saw it's a legit place, but the call still seemed fishy. Called back and no one answered, go t a vm. Searched on the number and found it here. So glad I saw it!
- Caller: Book Whirl?
- JMGot a call on my cell phone in the UK - voice was incredibly distorted, so much so there was no point continuing whether it be real or not. Glad I didn't. Interesting that I too have self-published a book, so wondering where they get this contact info?
Always check this site when I suspect a call is spam. - Soozie Lowry replies to LauraThank you so much!
- Mitch3/11/15 Came home to a slurred (as someone else wrote) message on my machine. They wanted to talk to me about my latest book (self-published.) Have to admit I was excited until I found this website and the comments. Hard to understand what sounded like a foreign accent but the name was Jan or Joan Daniels with Book.....Publishing. And from reading the other posts here I see it's Book Whirl Publishing. Appears to be another scam, or another way to part you from your money. Hence I will not return the call. Watch out writers!
And thanks to whoever is running this site.- Caller: Book Whirl Publishing
- debi2 calls today asking for my brother by name. I told them it was the wrong # (he doesn't live here) and gave no info. The second time, I threatened to call the police if they call again, so hope not to hear from them again.
- Caller: didn't say
- GRI received a call in the middle of the night (Indian Local Time ) wanting to know whether I was interested in getting my self published novel translated into German. The accent was probably American, and the person spoke haltingly, stumbling over my name. I refused out of my habit of refusing unsolicited offers. But, being a writer struggling to make a name, I also kept thinking I should have got more details before refusing. I googled the number and came to your site. Thank you for putting my mind to rest.
- Kris replies to MadalineYup, exactly! Thanks so much for the heads up!
- Karen Karper Fredette| 1 replyI recently received a call from a woman, Lila Ford, with a foreign accent and a bit hard to understand from Book Whirl. When I asked if she was calling from Book World, she corrected me so I knew who or what I was dealing with. She said they had chosen a book I'd first published in 1984 with a traditional publisher. When it went out of print, I got the copyright back and brought it out through Authors Guild Back-in-print program. Lila said they wanted to show my book at the London Book Show in April, 2016 for .... $!500. She must have heard my gasp because the cost was immediately lowered to $1200. which I could pay in monthly installments. Uhhh - not so sure about this. Though she assured me their goal was to get my book into a traditional publisher's hands with a minimum of a $50,000. advance, I am still hesitant. Have had such offers before by the self-publishing company I have worked with - iUniverse. This latter company makes their real money in the marketing end of their business. Beward of their offers also.

- PattiSame MO. Thanks. Someone must be falling for this scam since they have been doing it for years.
- CarlaReceived a message today from the same difficult-to-understand lady. Something about a book club and a question about my book. The call was on my home number, which was odd. I called back and got a voice message. After reading the comments here, I blocked the number. Thanks everyone!
- Caller: Book something
- KimLooks like they're at it again. Someone named Josh left a message for me. I couldn't understand if he said he was from Book Worm or Book World. I haven't written a book. I don't know how he got my number. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but today I received a call from some psychic service. When I asked her to take my number off of their list, she claimed someone at my number called them. That's not the case. I'd like to know which company is selling lists of phone numbers.
- SomeoneThe business I work for got a call from this number saying they are from baptist publish design guidance and her name was jen daniels. I was not sure about this call, but she asked to talk to the Pastor. She eventually hung up, but when I called back it was not a real number and I knew it was probably a scam. When she called she talked so low i could barely understand her.
- Caller: Baptists publish design guidance
