- Gina replies to Annoyed| 3 repliesI can understand each and everyone of you all situration! My exhusband owes money to ATT Wireless Service. I received a phone call from them last night at 9:15pm (too late to be collecting debt) Since the divoice, I have been recording ALL telephone converstaion. I told 'Chris' from CCA that I am the ex Spouse of the person who is in debt and I may or may not be able to help him and this conversation is being recorded. He told me to go ahaid and record what you want - I have nothing to hide. He told me that the amount owed was $1400 and could settle for $700 check or credit card now. I told him I was unable to pay that amount, but if you would like to set up reaccuring payments of $50-75 a month I would gladly do so to settle the debt. 'Chris' refused to accept payment. He told me the amount I wanted to pay is unacceptable and was cheaper then the cell phone bill itself. I asked and verified if he was refusing to accept a payment from a consumer - he said he was refusing to accept the amount I stated. I told him once again I was unable to pay the amount he is demanding but is willing to pay the debt. Once again he deinied payment. I asked for the address of CCA and he stated he was unable to give me the address-he would be sending me a finial letter telling me the expacations in the future if the debt is not settled. I told him the future of his company will be in the hands of my Local and State Attrny General Office and the FTC. - He tryed to get another word in but I hung up.
I know my consumer rights and I know you can never deny a consumer the oppertunity to pay on a debt nor call them after 9pm in the comsumer time zone. - Gina replies to MIA| 1 replyI used to work in my Attrny General Office. Let me just say one thing to the collectors - you need to read and understand Cosumer Laws and Rights. You all need to understand FDIC and FTC Laws and Regulations. At no time are you to contact refrences of the Debtor and discuss the account. Refrences are placed incase the Conumer skips town, death, or un reacahable. You are not suppose to discuss the account with a refrence. In case of a co-signer you are to advise them that the person they cosign for has not paid thier bill. You are to give the co-signer all and any verification and documentation that is needed with in 30 days. Also, the Co-signer has 30 days to validate the debt and become current or settle the debt with the debtor.
But, you already know the consumer rights. You all just do not want to obey them. So, to all the consumers, you have rights protecting you - USE IT AND REPORT REPORT REPORT! They collectors will take you to court and get a judgment put against you, freez your accounts, and garnish your wages. So do not ignore the phone calls or throw away your bills from the collector. It's worse if you do nothing. So, at anytime you belive you are a fraud victom, or honestly can not afford to pay (thats why u are in collections to begin with) but trying to pay what you can, and they refuse payment - REPORT REPORT REPORT! Call you local and state AG office and ask for thier help. THEY WILL HELP YOU! THATS WHY THEY ARE THERE - FOR US - FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE MISTREATED UNFAIRLY BECAUSE OF THIER MISFORTUNE. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN LAID OFF, UNEMPLOYED - and I will pay my maortg before I will pay a fliping phone, or other collection debt! - Homer replies to smartAre you really this stupid in real life?
- DenmanI called back the number and they said they were looking for a Bradley I asked for the last name and it turned out to be a room mate from college. I told the guy I hadn't spoken with Brad in 10 years, he then apologized for the call and said they wouldn't be calling anymore.
- NancyI have gotten at least two automated calls which were left on my answering machine, stating that it is "a time-sensitive matter" and I must respond within the next business day. They did not identify themselves.
Also, I have previously received messages on my answering machine asking for another person. The message stated that "by continuing to stay on the line, you are acknowledging" that you are the person they're trying to call.
I have no bad debt and have a great credit score. Somehow they've gotten my number and think I'm someone else. I did not call them back because I checked the number out this web site first!!!
I've had someone else try to scam me before. That's when I discovered this wonderful resource. KUDOS TO THE FACILITATOR OF THIS WEB SITE! - CCA| 5 repliesNo wonder you guys are in collections. Let me brake this down for you, trust me its simple. READ YOUR CONTRACT! I know, no one reads there contract, shoot I didnt read mine either, but don't get pissed because you signed your soul away, you agreed to that when you used the service, didn't complain then did you?
If it is a wrong number and you dont know the person, be a reasonable human being and just tell us, otherwise the calls will cont...
If it is a wrong number and you dont know the person, dont worry about who we are, or why we are calling, it has nothing to do with you. You wouldnt want us telling your issues to a stranger.
If it is a wrong number and you do know the person, give us information to contact them so were not calling you, plus they may want to take care of there bill cause they may care about there credit and score.
Let me tell you something that could help all you DEBTORS out, PAY YOUR BILL. Once an account is 'Charged off' (check your credit for that word) the client (AT&T, verizon, sprint, you get that much right?)doesnt want or have the right to talk to you about your bill. If you didnt know you had a 'bad' bill, well you do now, PAY IT. If you dont agree with the charges, you signed a CONTRACT, deal with it.
Yea yea, use the excuse 'the economy'. I know it doesnt say in the contract that if Bush F's up then you dont have to pay, [***].
So quit your whinning, cause you cant do anything to stop us but PAY YOUR BILL. And even if you find away to stop the calls, that is fine, we will hit your credit. And not 10-20-30 or even 50 points, o no you deadbeats will get hit with an R9 charge off, you can look that word up on your credit too.
The funny thing is you DEBTORS want to get mad at the calls, well, we get paid hourly, we get paid to call you, and guess what WE PAY OUR BILLS!!! Weather or not you pay your debt doesnt effect our ay check (hourly), so if you refuse or hang up (chickens, cant stand the heat) that is fine we will just place it will another collection company, which will hit your credit again.
Threaten us with your 'legal action' you think we give a crap? Answer: doesnt even cause ANY reaction. We are covered under so many laws. I know what your thinking, what about my rights, the 'consumer laws' guess what, YOUR NOT A CONSUMER ANYMORE, YOUR A DEBTOR!!!! You want rights, pay your bill.
And at the end of the day when us 'horriable, debt collectors' can pay our bills, understand when we sign a contract (legal binding doc) we will have the good credit scores with low APR's, rolling around in your repo cause we PAY OUR BILLS, and the best thing about this whole thing, most of us our in our early 20's. So go ahead and moon about it. We always get the last laugh :)- Caller: CCA

- Laughingmya**off replies to CCAYou are a complete and utter tool, "CCA". You bought out a debt that is as old as my first daughter. Sorry, it's been charged off about 4 times now. It can only be charged off once by teh way, so your threats of 'R9' are null and void. You cannot buy up and old debt and continue to try to penalize the debtor for it when they've already been penalized. I've been through that game a few times already when we fell on hard times.
Please continue to spout your lies and fear tactics, it amounts to nothing. - Inform yourselves replies to CCAhttp://www.bad-credit-advisor.com/bad-credit-charge-offs.html
Once a debt has been charged off it's going to stay on your credit report for seven years. After that time period has elapsed, it comes off whether it's paid off or not. See the article for full information. - SHASHACCA calls and asks for my son. He does not live here or in this state and never lived in this state. They will not give me any info only that Sarah Smith is her name and it's CCA. She told me that she will continue to call until I give her his number.
- fedupCCA has no interest in doing legitimate business. I have spent the last 4 years (yes that's right 4 YEARS) telling these people that the person doesn't live here and I've never met this person. They keep telling me they will update their files, obviously never happens. The phone calls will stop for a few months, then they start up again. One agent went so far as to varify this person's mailing address with me and it was in a completely different state!
Now the phone calls have started again for a different person. CCA is relentless. I hate that their automated phone system can't tell the difference between a person and an answering machine/voice mail so you get stuck getting the repeat phone calls cause you "stayed on the line". They trap you and they know it.
I am at my wits end with these people. If I had the money, I'd hire me one good high-powered attorney and sue them till there was nothing left.
This is harrasement, no matter what they like to call it.- Caller: CCA

- wrong personCalls for no reason several times a day. I just ignore them. Some collection agency most likely just bought
a list from some company and doesn't care if the name and numbers are the right people they are so STUPID . Smart needs to change their name to DUM if you think everyone who gets harassed is deadbeats. That's like saying everyone who goes to jail is guilty, everyone who gets off is innocent that's crap. Collection agencies don't care who they bother as long as they get money.- Caller: CCA
- BuddyWhen I answered the phone the man said what's your name? I told him you called me so you know my name. Then he said well I need to hear from you and then I need your date of birth and social security number too. I told him you need your head check if you think I'm going to give you any of this information. He said, your being very rude, and then I told him your being very nosy too.
When I finally told him that I was calling my lawyer and charge him with harassment he very quickly hung up.- Caller: Toll Free Call

- littleprince19776/10/09 Call from Stacey for "Marcus Lane" from "Account Services" to my home phone which is listed in the phone book as "M. Lane, no address". This is one of many calls for Marcus Lane or Marcus Jay Lane. I am neither of those people yet I continue to get calls for him.
7/2/09 I received another call for Marcus Lane from CCA Collection Services, Redding CA. using the phone number of: (877) 208.4176
Their web site: http://start.cortera.com/company/research/k3m9mwn2m/cca-collection-agency/
for an address where you can send a cease and desist letter AND/or request written information about the claim they want you to pay (many are outside the time limit allowed for collection... depends on your state laws)
As I live in Sacramento, CA. and have been getting many of these calls I contact a consumer rights lawyer in CA.

- Sickofdesperation| 2 repliesThese clowns called my mothers house 5 - 10 times a day and she just ignored them. After all her credit rating is as high as it can be so she didn't bother answering the phone. I got sick and tired of the phone ringing when I tried to visit with her so I answered it. Oh yea, they give you a recorded spill like you are the president of the USA. I called the number they gave me back becasue the caller ID shows Unknown name/number. The girl answered "Hello". I simply asked her why do they keep calling and she came off with I was attacking her and she hung up on me. I called back and hung up on her and then called back again and got a man. He transferred me to some nonEnglish speaking trick and he was trying to collect a debt on my mothers grandson. When I told them my mother fell out with her grandson and doesn't speak to him and do not call back he wanted to give me a spill about why you shouldn't get made at your own "BLOOD". I told him to go f himself and hung up. NO MORE CALLS!
- dan replies to N/AI keep getting these calls for someone I don't even know (Yorsmede?) and no matter how many times I tell them it's not me they wont stop calling me. I have never been in debt and I don't owe anyone any money. Last time I called the stupid @$$hole on the phone told me I was being rude and hung up on me. Is it worth my time to file a harassment suit?
- a guy replies to Sickofdesperation| 1 replywow you people are so stupid.
CCA does not buy old debt. they do not own the debt. they work for clients, everything from the government ( student loans) to cell phone bills. BY LAW IF YOU ARE NOT THE DEBTOR THEY CANNOT tell you they are collecting a debt. so now you know why they wont tell you why they are calling if you are not the debtor!
get a grip.
Bythe way your mothers grandson? as in your son? or neice/nephew perhaps. And all you people who say , "oh they call me but that person doesnt live here anymore why do they call me!"
well you idiots its because THE PERSON WHO OWES THE DEBT PUT YOUR ADDRESS AS THIERS, OR USED YOUR PHONE NUMBER AS THIERS. SO IF YOUR FRIEND OR RELATIVE FRAUDULENTLY USE YOUR INFORMATION, HOW DARE YOU GET MAD ATTHE COMPANY THEY RIPPED OFF, THEY SCREWED YOU OVER.
you people dont know a damn thing and obviously you are too stupid to cvare. and a chargeoff can stay on your credit for many more years than 7 . if collections keeps it active it stays active , PERIOD!. - a guy replies to Gina| 2 repliesim sorry but you are wrong. you say they refused to let you pay? no one stopped you from writing a check and sticking it in the mail. however you tried to force a payment plan on someone whi has every right to tell you no.
most clients of collectors have 6 month collection requirments so your payments wouldve taken over 2 years to pay off the debt. utterly worthless. sorry the debt is real and your reality is not.
and yes collectors can callafter 9pm if htey ask permission at some point first. and by the way, CCA closes at 9pm eastern. Oh and i hope you know it is illegal to record a phone conversation without prior consent its a felony. except in new york state.
