- Pat in Denver replies to David n| 2 repliesAlthough it's increasingly important we are aware of check cashing scams please be you may receive from payment processing centers. Although you may not know the 'check processing center' it is becoming increasingly common that individuals, businesses, and customers to finding its cost effective to pay their bills through their bank.
More and more now banks are contracting out this work to 'third party' companies to reduce their costs. - Pat in Denver replies to Pat in Denver| 1 replyOh yes...
SO the third party vendor's may send you to google to find more information for two reasons:
1. The third party processing center (actual check issuer, not the actual payee/initiator of payment...) doesn't have legitimate legal access to your account information nor should the primary company give them legal access. The primary company only has legally binding contract with you regarding your sensitive personally identifiable information (PII). Contract law dictates they can not give access, of your information, to a third party company who processes their 'administrative paperwork' without your permission. SO they send us to google....
2. Today people go to google to get answers. We don't go on quests anymore, we don't look for our own guru, or mentor, we go to google....
so the administrative, customer service agent may or may not be dumb. - p replies to Pat in DenverOn a related note - Lastly...
Sometime a third party agent may have your PII. Although everything in this thread is about accounts receivable ( you getting money), sometime a third party will be given access to your PII when you haven't held your end of the contract (about accounts payable - debt you owe); therefore, although they still have to treat your PII with reasonable care and not divulge it to irresponsible parties; they no longer are required to keep it secret in the pursuit of getting what may be owed them.
Third - Wild cards: two categories - (a) businesses of ill repute trying to seduce you to loans, for whatever basis you really cant afford; (b) others trying to gain illegal access to your assets to drain your resources. - Pat in DenverWhat ever you do. Be smart. Ask people, talk to people. Finding answers online should only be used for idea generating for choices you need to make. Reliance on a forum like this as 100% truth where we have the ability to post without registering who we are - isn't reliable information.
Please just be smart and only use these forums to help generate ideas, that may be sensible to your situation. - Brenda sison replies to DavidActually Chris isn't necessarily a liar. I own a legitimate busines (www.sisonphoto.com) and received a check from my client, in the exact amount I billed her for, from this company. I prefer to go straight to the banks to cash the checks rather than deposit them. So I looked up this address and found this thread. Apparently some legitimate banks use this company as a payment center. This check isn't the first I've received from the payment center. I have never had an issue with the deposits. If we had they would not receive their images. Since we bill a month in advance and need 4-6 weeks for editing, I would know if the check was bad before I delivered the final product.
- Wayne replies to David| 1 replyI think you are right about this. I am online friends with this girl name Stella. She asked me if I would let her customer mail me some checks that he owes her for her business. She is in Spain & he is in America. So she wants me to deposit the checks into my account & then wire the money to her. Ofcourse I'm not going to do this without making the call to the bank. I received the checks. Like 5 of them at close to thousand bucks each. I am sure this must be some kind of scam. I will not deposit them. Taking them to the authorities.
- Julie replies to WayneWhere did you take these checks? I have had something similar happen to me, but they have come from a payment procesding center, not a bank.
- ckd replies to CreditMgr| 2 repliesOf course they are real. There is a telephone number on the face of the check. Why not just call it and ask who sent this particular check to you instead of calling people liars? I'm looking at one at this very moment. It's from a customer and they are paying for supplies they purchased from us.
- Sir Bedevere replies to ckdCalling the number on the check will tell you nothing — it's put there by whoever created the check! So of course whoever answers the phone will tell you the check is good!
Take the check – IN PERSON – to your own bank and have them verify it. - Wayne E in D.C. replies to Senior Associate| 1 replyBEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!
I called my bank about this and they never heard of such a thing. Then called NORTHERN TRUST at 877-246-7923 and while the "operator pool" sounded legit, she could NOT answer where and how the $1,600 on my "check" was coming from. All she said were that they were a "legitimate money transfer service between financial institutions and credit unions."
When ever someone says they are a "legitimate" such-and-such, that is suspect. I'm not cashing this check. And beware of all the other "posters" that say it's OK. From everything that any half way rational person can see, it is NOT ok. I am not 'causing problems.' People like you are peppering sites like this with false assurances. - Stephanie replies to Marc| 1 replyYes i received a check for $500, but I am sending it back for it came through supposedly from a donation that I was speaking to a person who is posing as a solider in Syria. By my understanding I did not think we had troops overseas in Syria? They wanted me to cash the check and then send the money to Nigeria for their military. This is the BIGGEST and first time ever been scammed on anything. I'm just so mad at myself for believing I was talking to a solider. But I wised up and started to do more and more research on this. So I am returning the check back to the processing center from Hickory, NC. Also I am reporting it to the Army about how these scammers are using our troops information to get to people like me (both guys and gals).
- BigA replies to StephanieThe correct thing to do would be to take the check and the envelope it came in to the post office and have them forward it to the postal inspectors.
- Carina replies to LouieI run a small business, and Northern Trust IS A SCAM. I pay independent contractors through my online bank (Regions) and today one of my workers called me saying that he received TWO checks a few days apart. They were identical: amount, memo line, address (our address and his), color, font, etc, but the difference was the bank (Northern Trust instead of Regions, and it was signed (Sure as hell not by me or by my bookeeper!). The bank account was incorrect as well. But how creepy is it that they have all the other info??!! The thing that I think "set it off" was that we did a stop payment his initial check (because he accidentally shredded it), and issued a new one. Soemwhere in the system someone is hacking into the system of the bank or payment center to get this info.
I am so glad that he called me to confirm that we had in fact NOT sent that check. - David replies to LadyLJNot definitely a scam. I just got a check and was thinking scam and it was legit. It was my friend using his bill pay. But there is no letter or anything so it seemed sketch especially since it was from his company and I didn't know the name. They could definitely do something to make it seem more legit. I almost threw the thing away!
- David replies to GW-Fort WorthWrong, this is a legit company.
- Jessica replies to Wayne E in D.C.I called the number on the check we got, she told me she was with Bak of America bill pay. I hung up and called BOA and they verified it is a legitimate check. I'm taking it to a BOA branch tomorrow to cash it.
- Rhino| 1 replyIt's now dec. 28, 2015 and i received a check for almost $2500.00 from same ph. # i believe they are scams, i had apply for donations to repair my home, but no donors it would had been nice if it had being the case, but... - Tamianth replies to RhinoSending fake checks through the mail is a crime so contact the US Postal Service Inspectors:
https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx
https://www.usps.com/ - Bunny Hill replies to NPDThe payment processing center is LEGIT, they are a check processing company, if you call the number on check they can tell you if the check is to be cashed. So call, before check is deposited.
