- susanGot a call from Ken Murphey looking for Jonathan and Ken keeping asking my age first he told me he was a police officer and that Jonathan had commited a crime. Then he said Jonathan had applied for a loan for a car and was approved and he wanted to know my age and how long I had been married. I would not give him my information.
- Andrew replies to KS| 1 reply877-246-7061 is American Home Shield. You probably have an expired or new credit card. You should call them!!
- Bob| 1 replyHey guys, I got a mysterious check from the PAYMENT PROCESSING CENTER. After some searching, I found out my son, who has an online savings account, issued a check to pay me back for something. It is legitimate. If you have any doubts, contact the person who is named in the top left corner and ask them if they sent you a check. Mystery solved!

- Mike| 1 replyI did receive a check made out to me with my name & address on it for $970.00 The only info on the check was :
"Please direct any questions to 877-246-7923
Payment Processing Center
PO Box 1029
Hickory,NC 28603-1029
The envelope also had the return address on it as above.
Don't cash the check, just report them and end this please - BetseyL replies to chrisMine was a legitimate check. I was thoroughly confused when I received it. So I called the number on the check. The recording explains that they are an online check service, and "if you have received a check...your customer has used an online check service". Still not sure what it was for, I waited to speak to a live person. All they asked for was my name, phone # (not sure why they needed that, but in my case I gave them a business line, so it didn't matter) , and the check #. She verified who the return info was from and when I inquired further, she said they was a notation that it was payment for a class that I was offering. Just an FYI to anyone who thinks its a scam. It's always possible, bc there are so many out there anymore, but my advice is to just call and ASK b4 assuming. Get all the information, then decide.
- Real Deal replies to dcI own a 4-plex apartment and every month one check comes to my PO box with the rent money from my tenant that uses this online Payment Processing Center. The check comes on time each month and I know this check is going to be good!
dc is correct.
It's the world we live in nowadays that makes everybody suspect and distrusting. - CreditMgr| 6 repliesOkay…seems to be a great deal of fear and relatively incomplete information (or mis-information) floating around on this particular issue. I am the Credit Manager for a manufacturer that processes checks coming to us from customers throughout the U.S. We are seeing more and more customers use a bill paying service (rather than write checks themselves).
Many of you are probably paying your own service providers – utility, telephone, trash, insurance, etc. – by some means other than writing a check. This means that you are either authorizing your bank to make an ACH (Automated Clearing House) wire transfer, or to send a substitute check to the merchant.
Just since yesterday, we have received such payments from US Bank NA, Wells Fargo and Northern Trust. Wells Fargo presents the most professional-looking check, whereas those from Northern Trust have a less polished look and, therefore, cause the most consternation (shame on them!).
Nonetheless, we know these check are legitimate because: 1) the party on whose behalf the payment is being made (payor) is identified and, 2) there is a memo identifying the nature of the payment. Additionally, we are expecting these payments.
Every one of these checks says “Please post this payment for our mutual customer.”
The above two elements should appear on these checks. In addition, the bank on which it is drawn should be identified. Further, a check should have 3 sets of MICR numbers on the bottom, the magnetic characters that are read by a check processing machine. The first number corresponds to the check number displayed in the upper right corner. The second number is the bank’s routing number. The third number is the account on which the funds are being drawn.
Bank routing numbers can be matched to a bank via www.routingnumber.org. Of course, scammers have this information, too, but it is a start.
It is a shame that Northern Trust’s checks have that look and feel of a scam. Northern, if you are reading this, spruce it up! - SusanK replies to CreditMgr| 1 replyThanks for your info it was very helpful!
- TDnSD replies to TurkOur company recently received a $100 check as well. I called the Payment processing center and they wouldn't give me the senders information such as a phone number but would pass on a message to call me. So I figured I would go ahead and cash the check and they could call me if there's an error. I was just about to endorse the check when it hit me like a slap in the face. Once I stamp this check they will now have our name, address, bank, and account number. This company could then recreate checks using our information. Remember if it's too good to be true itprobably is. I WOULD NOT cash these checks unless you use a check cashing service and not your bank.
- Kim PaskerI received a check for $205.97 from the Parment Processing Center and the only name on it as to where it came from is Northern Trust. Reading other things on this forum, I will not deposit it. The check was made out o a business account (Little Paws Dog Rescue) so beware of that as well.
- Get It Straight| 1 replyYou idiots are putting your own address in when adding your payee in your bill pay which causes the payment to be sent to your home and not to your biller. ACCEPT OWNERSHIP IT IS YOUR FAULT this is happening. Get a clue and learn how your services work.
- Kathryn| 1 replyI thought this was a scam too. We got a check for $1,000. I was going to throw it out but my husband stopped me. I asked him if he was expecting a check for $1,000 and he said yes. He requested a disbursement from our son's college savings account so we could make a payment. He said it looks like that each time.
