they are a debt collector who is an attorney that buys debts and jacks up the amount due.  I got a letter from them in refernce to Merrick bank and I asked validation never got it and after the second letter requesting the info they did ansewer and said I owed about 300 more than the orginal bill.  I was already payning Merrick bank a pre arranged repayment plan and when I called yesterday to make my payment this jerk of a debt collector answered the phone. He said that they had taken over the account.  I had kept accurate records of the account during the payments so I knew what I ahd paid.  After I contacted the bank again they took my payment I asked them about this and they saaid that he was a rep working in their center in the afternoons and I told them what he was saying and that he said I owed about $200 more than the balance the klady checked it and said that mine and her figures were correct so that showd that this guy was trying to gain more than what was owed if any doubt call yur original creditor and ask them.

So I too get numerous and frequent calls from this ph#. I have them blocked so I only get notifications thru my Caller ID(c) App. Remember there are statues of limitations for CC debt 7-10 years, which means they have no legal stance. However, these rogue debt collectors attempt to prey on the ignorant in hope's of collecting even though they dont have to. I've gotten calls 5 years after my debt was discharged as BK Chapter 7 court. Attempting to collect discharged BK debt is a federal offense. They hire derelicts, ex cons and people who'll work for minimal wages + commissions.  I've had many a verbal battle with these nincompoops. I even request their supervisor to cut them down too. But I'm an old call center manager with banking and legal experience. I enjoy getting them enraged and then verbally embarrassing them. They hang up on me before I hang up on them.
The moral to this is, dont be afraid of them nor allow them to intimidate you with their false or unlawful threats. ¡Church!

My cell phone’s call monitor blocks the call as “Suspected Spam”. Every reason to believe that the call is from a company that purchases old bad debts and discharged debt and harasses you continually. I didn’t answer and won’t.

Yes, from the reports and the lawsuits against them, plus the fact that they are in New York, it proves that this is nothing more then an criminal enterprise pretending to be a debt collector.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC:  https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

calls about once a week, leaves no message or is a automatic call with press 1 if you are this person and 2 if you are not and 3 if wrong number.  Then hangs.  Don't answer calls that don't leave message with why they are calling or who they are.

Phone call from 877-394-5975 on Thurs. April 4, 2019 at 3:54pm PST. The caller had the opportunity to leave a voicemail message but chose not to do so. I have identified this phone # as a "Spam Suspicion Caller" on my phone. I am admittedly owed money, in writing, by an unscrupulous + non-law abiding credit card company that they promised but defaulted on.

I missed a payment on my Merrick credit card and this is the number they used to call me.  So it's either Merrick Bank or their collections department.

It is a debt collector.  I missed a payment on my Merrick Bank card and they charged me an insane fee, so while I was trying to get that cleared up they turned it over to collections.  This is the number they called me from.

So who cares if those criminal felons they hire get paid or if they pay their rent?  That person posted here in 2012.  Expecting them back to see your post 6 years later?
