- ricky replies to Jake| 1 replyHi Jake, I worked in the Salem office of RJB for 5 years...specifically in the litigation department, I promise you they do sue people. Like any court case you win some you lose some (they won alot more than they lost) one debtor i dealt with personally (a nasty fellow) was actually put in jail for 2 weeks after failing to make his court ordered payments. If you live in Mass. and the debt is not stat then you will probably be sued...especially small claims as they are so cheap to file...if you are in another state your really only at risk of suit if you have assets and a substantial balance...easiest thing to do is to pay your bills...when you take something and dont pay it back there is a word for it...hmmm...what is it...Oh..thats right, its called stealing! Who is more of a waste of space, a 50 state licensed multi-million dollar a month law firm providing hundreds of good paying jobs to the community or debtor who steals from people without even trying to pay them back???????
- vtsinglemomx2 replies to BOTTOM FEEDING BILL COLLECTORWhat you say may be all well and good for people who actually have a debt. I am in good standing credit wise and have broken my back to ensure that I do not have an outstanding debt. My ex-husband, however, has not. He has fled the country and has left me "holding the bag" except for the fact that I am not responsible for his debt and never will be. This information does not excuse the fact that these people REFUSE to give me their address so that I can write a cease and desist letter. They have even gotten so low as to badger my young daughter (aged 8) who has autism into giving them information about her father and when she tells them she doesn't know, they threaten her with the possibility of going to jail (her words, not mine). I have written and will continue to write to the Attorney General's office in my state to end these HARRASSING phone calls, and while I may not be a judge and cannot make that legal determination and am NOT the debtor in question, I CAN and WILL always refer to this as HARRASSMENT, especially when they continue to call on days that should be allowed to be sacred (i.e. Sundays).
- JUJUBEEJust moved into a new home, hence, new phone number. This 877-404-4490 keeps calling, Richard J. [***] & A**holes, INSISTING that I am someone I am not. Very, very rude people. After reading most of the posts and realizing that they are a collection company, you would think that if people owe them money, they would go through better means of collecting. Didn't your momma tell you that you can catch more flies with honey. If I owed them money they wouldn't get SQUAT!!!!

- Anonym replies to BOTTOM FEEDING BILL COLLECTORYou are wrong! These guys work for "Debt Buyers" and they admit it. They also pull credit reports and "pretend" to be the creditor. You must work for this company! How proud your parents must be that you make your 6 figure salary working for a sleazy company that works for sleazy debt purchasers that buy unfortunate people's debt!!!!
- Z meisterThese people buy debts sometimes 3 cents on the dollar. Then go after people that can't afford to pay life's bills, like food, heat, and gas. Maybe unable to work. Companies like this should be illegal. But this is Capitalism at it's best.
If the national debt was divided among all the people each one of us would have to come up with 1/2 million dollars to bail our country out of debt. Yet government gave hundreds of billions to the banks. Think for a moment about your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their children. Do you honestly think the United States will be around, what will our family generations be doing? Something has to change, and it starts with the people. And it's called democracy. The one thing we have that cannot be taken away (yet) is one person one vote. One percent of americans control 95% of the wealth, not counting foreign countries.

- sandy replies to SC Lawyerperson below regarding FDCPC is 100 percent right. The law states that if you send anyone calling you regarding money a cease & desist letter that states exactly that they can not call your work ,your home, your neighbors, etc.... THEn THEy CAN' T PERIOD. ITS AGAINST THE LAW. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS SEND THE LETTER TO THE PERSON CALLING STatING THAT THEY CAN ONLY CONTACT YOU BY MAIL. YOU SEND THE LETTER CERTIFIED WITH RETURN RECEIPT. SO THEY HAVE TO SIGN FOR IT AND ITS A DONE DEAL. Yes places are allowed to collect a debt but they have to obey the laws just like everyone else in the world. So do your collecting in the correct matter and then you wont have to worry about breaking the FDCPC law. I run a business and when people dont pay me i have to follow the laws. i just dont do whatever i think i can get away with.
- ACtechGot a call from this number several times. The lady on the phone said I owed a credit card bill, to a company I don't remember ever applying too in the first place. She said she could lower my balance and interest to about half, but I had to give her my banking information over the phone. I was polite when I told her I could not agree to that, and that I don't believe I owed the company that she mentioned. When she didn't get anywhere with me, she turned the call over to a guy who called himself Paul, and that is when I started taping the call. I told him I give no one my banking information over the phone, I didn't owe this debt, and that he could send me a letter stating who he was and whom he worked for. He said fine, what is the fax number, I said no fax, send me a letter in the mail. He got mad and said that I could forget the half balance and no interest. Also said he would be turning this over to one of his lawyers to process and garnish my wages. For anyone who reads this post, "Never give out banking information to anyone who "cold calls" your phone for any reason" No matter how they threaten you. If it is a cell phone, most of them like mine will record a call. If the call comes from this number, then send the recording to the New Hampshire Attorney Generals Office and file a report. As for "Paul" If you are monitoring this site, and others like this one, be aware you are not the only one that knows lawyers. Your tactics in scaring people into paying you over the phone is not only unethical, but illegal. Your company has a rap sheet over 40 pages long, and you have already been sued for this scam and lost several times. You have over 50 unsettled claims against your company with the Better Business Bureau. http://www.bbb.org/concord/business-reviews/l ... lem-nh-92002209 If enough people report this crime, these people will be put out of business.

- weaving spiderHi All. When these fascist pigs call, tell them to produce the document that shows where you ever agreed to contract with them for any reason. I'm telling you right now, these fascist pigs have to show you the papers that you signed or they have no case against you. These fascist pigs don't have the paper work and I'll bet the fascist pig bank can't produce the paperwork either. These fascist pigs know they have no case against you or they would have sued you in court a long time ago. You have more power than you can possibly imagine.

- d replies to JohnIf they say they are a law firm ask for their state bar number, all states identify their lawyers. In CA, you should ask for their bar number so you can look it up on the CA bar website.
- The lowly paralegal to higher than thou replies to rickyVery interesting post from your point of view and while your informing the good people, why not inform then of something a as you called it : A Fifty State Multi Million Dollar a month law firm; should know and abide by something called the Fair Debt Collection Act! I advise most people look into the Fair Debt Collection Act as most of these collection attorneys offices do not abide by it or worry about it! Yes people should pay their bills or make arrangements to do so. These collection attorneys are extremely rude and threatening on the phone to all ,especially the elderly. Mention that the next time they call and they will not call you again an actual attorney will call you as you will be placed in a special file that only an attorney will call. Right now you are being called by people given jobs to call on thier endless files of debt, car repo's etc.
Good Luck to you all - unnamed replies to SC Lawyer| 1 replyIn response to the person who is obviously a collector, I do pay my bills. I have owned three credit cards for many years and due to my great payment history, they have all raised my limits. I have had to use these cards due to my daughter now attending college and with the great intererest rates, I found this method very affordable. In the last couple of years, the credit cards companies decided to now lower my limits (all close to my balances) due to the economic situation. This process then lowered my credit score which then allowed the credit card companies to raise my interest rate (which I did not agree to). Not once have I been late on a payment yet the credit card companies can name their rate. How can one come from a rate of 8.25% to now 19.99%? I don't see how this is legal...I think a loan shark would charge me a better rate...My income stream hasn't gone up...who is hurting in this situation? Guess what? My husband was just recently laid off...but I'm paying my bills. With these rates and paying the minimum balance, it will take me 24 years to pay off what I owe (which will make me 67). I will then have paid each of them close to my balance amounts in interest. Pathetic if you ask me!
