I keep receiving calls "collect" from a variety of prisons. They give 877-650-4249 as the number to call to enable blocking. I never accept the charges and hang up, but they keep calling. Over, and over. By 2:00AM I'd had enough and I unplugged my phone.

I too am getting these calls on and off for a month now. First time started one night at about midnight. Usually when the automated message states the persons name, its never a full name, usually just a first name or an unintelligible name. I never accept them or block it yet. The calls have picked up in intensity as of late and part of me thinks it could be some kind of phone billing scam.

We keep getting calls from this number as well.  This morning alone already they've called 3 times.  Tried to block but refuse the call the 877 number.  Spoke with our phone carrier service representative about this recording and calls.  They said there are correctional billing services that are used by inmates at the prisons.  They will bill the person who is receiving the call and you can setup an account with them. I told the representative that NOBODY that we know of are in person. No relative, friend or otherwise.  Basically as a consumer we have to deal with this ourselves.  Sounds to me that the phone companies are selling numbers to these companies.  WHAT A HUGE SCAM!

This is the customer service phone number for Global Tel*Link.  The calls usually mean that someone from a penal institution that they serve is trying to reach you.  This company used to be called MCI.  I have worked with them for years as a bail bondsman and have never had any trouble from them.  I'm sure if you think on it, I'm sure you can recall who might be trying to reach you.

Someone in Jail or Prison is tryin to contact you! You must pay 25$ or $50 in advance to accept the call or Hang up and call 877-650-4249 for them to block your#.

i need this number to stop calling me!!!

I actually would like the number to CALL ME.  We have spoken to 5 different representatives and cannot get the money we paid 60+ hours ago to be credited to our phone number so our son can telephone us from jail.  I can only imagine that the calls you folks are getting are from the idiots at this company crediting funds to the wrong phone number.  We had funds deposited to a NON-EXISTENT EXCHANGE in our area code... i.e., 949 rather than 943...  I was told the error would be corrected by 6 pm today, then just a bit ago we were told that it would take 3 to 5 business days to get it credited to the correct number!  Like we were the ones that made the mistake in the first place.  I am furious.  Have never had a child in jail and have no way to let him know that we are trying to get this fixed...and no way to use another carrier or service provider.  Holy Smokes!  Sorry to anyone getting erroneous calls...you wish the phone would quit ringing -- I wish mine COULD ring.  #$&!#)$&)#!!!!!

My cell phone was stolen and this number along with many others keeps appearing on my statement.  Verizon credited my account all the calls that were made after my phone was stolen.  I am so confused how this works.

keep getting calls from prison inmate,,,I keep hanging up, blocking and also trying to get ahold of someone at 877-650-4249 only to get nothing. My gosh I have a family,,dont have time for this BS!!!!

Hispanic message?  Cant understand if you are here legally? WTH? You deserve to be harrassed with these calls for being ignorant!  Get a book and learn, instead of being online and displaying your ignorance to the world.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?  We are also getting these calls in the early morning.  Why do these phone companies keep getting away with this crap?

we have been receiving calls all day & we are a business with 2 different numbers off by a few digits out of our home. when it says we have a collect call from & the person states the name - the name is unrecognizable to us & static. I tried hitting 7 to block the calls & was given the 877 number to call. I called from a BLOCKED private line & when I didn't choose an option out of the 4 options I hung up. As soon as I hung up, I got a call on that blocked number for a collect call.
Absolutely no one we know is in jail & even if they were they wouldn't call us on a business line. The channel 4 news stated that this was a scam the other night. When I did wait the 40 minutes on hold for the next available operator I told her what happened & she told me rudely that I obviously have to know someone in Los Angeles County Jail otherwise how would the inmate know our numbers. There are 3 of us in this office today. When all 3 lines lit up with calls all at the same time from the exact same name I asked her how that was even possible? She said she didn't know. I informed her that I knew this was a scam. She denied it - so I asked for which lock up it was from - she said Men's Central Jail L.A. County - I said Oh good. I'll just call my cousin direct since he's LAPD & on duty today at the Jail. (which is true) or his dad who is a Detective @ the L.A.P.D. (also true) or my other family members who are all officers or detectives. I informed her that I was going to be calling the FCC & report them for harassment. She said go ahead & hung up on me.  SCAM!!!!!!!

The first thing I did was call my Verizon "Unlawful Call Center" and asked some questions.  Yes, as stated above, the 877-650-4249 number is a valid toll free number for Global Tel-Link.  My biggest concern is that since I first pressed the number "7", that would be appended on the front of the other number as an outgoing call.  For those of you who don't know about these 700/900/976 area code numbers, they are a cost-per-call number typically used by road reports, dial-a-joke, horoscopes, stock market reports, ski conditions, etc.  The Verizon representative said that me dialing the "7" did not put me through to a 7XX

Global Tel-Link is a service provider for prisoners to be able to call their family and friends without using collect calls or cell phone providers.  the prisoners can call any number they want but if you don't accept the call, your phone is not billed.

I called the Global Tel-Link 877-650-4249 number and waited to talk to a representative.  I informed her that I wanted my phone number blocked from calls originating from the prison system and she told me it would take effect within 24 hours.  I guess I will wait and see what happens.  I expect this block will only apply to called made through Global Tel-Link.  If there is another service provider for other prison systems, then I would have to do this again for that other provider.

I asked if she could tell me the name of who originated the call and she couldn't, but she could tell me which prison/jail originated the call.  In my case, it was from the Pitchess county jail in Los Angeles, CA.  It blocking my phone number does not work, I suppose I can try to contact the jail directly to see if I can get this harrassment to stop.  Hope this works.  

I suggest you call Global Tel-Link if you get similar unwanted calls from prisoners and wait to speak to a representative to get your number blocked.  Seemed staight forward to me, but a pain in the butt.

I called 877-650-4249 to have my number blocked. I waited on hold for 4 minutes before "Deanna" took my cal.. She was most helpful in putting the block in place.
I guess I'll wait to see if I receive any more attempts.

Global tell link is a phone service for people who r in a county jail or a state prison. If an inmate is trying to call u whether it b county jail or state prison.  .  U will first hear a recording letting u know someone from a county jail or prison is trying to reach u. Most of the tine the first 45 seconds r green the call will automatically hang up n ask if u want to set up a plan o block all calls. Maybe for some of you that have teenage kids male or female,well maybe it can be a Friend of theirs. Global tell link doesn't just automatically call random phones.

This number keeps calling and asking for personal informationwhich I don't give and then they hang up!!!

While everyone is getting calls.  I CAN!! My loved one has been trying to call home for 7 weeks and is still not able to!!! I have talked to this company 18 time in 7 wks and EVERYTIME I call its something different!  I have done all that they have asked and still NOTHING!!! THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!
