I just bought a car and my credit wasn't great.  I don't pick up the phone if I don't recognize the number.  Having said that, now that I know it is Ally Bank, who took my loan, I will answer that but I have never been asked to give anything more than my last 4 digits of my SS#.  If I did, I would not give it to them, especially if they called me.  If it were me calling Chase bank, that might be a different story.  Certainly they can verify last 4 digits of the SS# or maybe I will give them last 3...Piss them off.

I financed a car through them, the car dealership told me they would be calling to make sure I was a real person. Did so with no problems. Now I see their number coming up again and again w/o any message left. I'm hoping that they don't also have a telemarketing division! If that happens then I will tell them to contact me by email only and BLOCK their phone number!

As stated above, this is Ally. They are a reputable bank (name changed from GMAC) and the purpose of their calls are legitimate. I purchased a car two weeks ago, the first call was to verify the information on my loan application and the second call was to set up online access. The rep did attempt to coerce me to enter my bank information on their site to enroll in Auto Pay, but I think this was only to secure on-time payments.

During both calls I was asked to confirm only the last four of my SSN, by the way.

They have called six times in that last 24 hours. Every time I answer, they hang up. If this is a honest bank with a legit call, why do they hang up like a scammer, and why does the number come up as unknown? I blocked them, so they won't bother me anymore.

It sounded a little sketchy at first, but it is indeed Ally Auto and if you've recently financed a vehicle, they are calling to setup your online account which is really handy. Once you're enrolled you can also use their mobile app. You can also do this all your self at ally.com/auto, click Enroll Now (you'll need your account# - but if you walk through it with the phone rep, they can help you).

PS. I wasn't comfortable giving them much info so all I would give them is my address and the city where I purchased the vehicle... they were able to tell me the rest which made me feel much more comfortable. I told them I don't give out even the last four of my social unless I'm the one doing the calling. They understood and were helpful.

I purchased a car through carmax and ally is my financing bank. 2 days after purchasing a man called telling me he wanted to verify to send out my welcome packages.

Now a week later I have this number calling my cellphone, the next day my work phone. When I said I did this a few days ago they got nervous and said well it uh must be a different department. We need this for our department.   I told them they can verify it from the bank as well as the dealership.  Seems too sketchy for me and the number does not show that it is registered as an ally number.

Since you made an effort to reply to a 2 year old post, perhaps you would like to supply the name and address of this legitimate company.  Should be no problem since they are legitimate as you say, and just think of all the free publicity you can give them.

Yes. They are a real finance company. Just financed a vehicle through them. They called me a few times to verify the car loan details agreed with the dealer. Standard call like any finance company after buying a car.

I recently bought a car and used Ally Bank to finance it. Yes this is that number. Yes they do ask you to confirm who you are, but your SSN is only one option to do so and if you don't want to give it you don't have to. The reason for the call is to confirm who you are and the information they have on file is correct. The REAL reason for the call is they want to push you to use auto pay. You don't have to.  It is a little strange how aggressively they push these issues, and that it seemed like they wouldn't remove my number until I at least set up the online account. On the other hand if I loaned someone tens of thousands of dollars I might be a pit pushy.

Ally Financial is the name of the 'legitimate bank" formerly GMAC. They offer auto financing. Hope this helps.
