    finally
After receiving many calls from this number, then reading these posts, I called Spring Customer service, and after calmly explaining my need to "stop" these calls (they can't "block" telephone numbers) to two or three CSRs, I finally got a person who changed the options on my account to reflect that no phone numbers on my account are to receive telemarketing calls from Sprint.
Even though it took a while, I think it worked. :)

i used to work for Sprnt/Nextel as a telemarketer, 877-671-1851 is the number that we used in order to call sprint customers. the reason of the call is basically to offer you another line of service. believe it or not, a lot of people bought new cellphones over the phone, it is successful campaign and sprint will keep it for long. you may be called from either philipines or central america. if you dont want to receive more of this annoying calls, please tell the telemarketer to be removed from the calling list

I'm on board with the 'scam'. It is. I've been getting these types of calls for a few years now. Don't pick it up. I try reporting the number but all they do is make note of it. I don't know if anything gets done. Either way - I usually don't pick up for numbers not in my contacts, but I picked this call up without looking at the phone first. She was trying to find out information on my phone lines. Then she said the words, "Well the reason I am calling today is because we are offering promotions..." and then the phone call cut off. Sounds enticing, but only a fool would pursue these calls. You can all do yourselves a favor and NOT pick up. I don't know what else to do to handle it. Sprint (and the rest of the companies) should open up a detective branch, exposing this crap so people feel more secure with their service.

This is the caller ID that appeared when Sprint called ME back in regards to a customer service issue that they needed to get back to me about -- so it is not just for telemarketing.

This is a call from SPRINT to see if you want to add any services.  It is a straight sales call. My wife received a call on the number she uses.  I called the number back as I recognized it from previous calls.  I had previously opted out of these sales calls but I guess you have to do it for each line.  The representative was very courteous and said she would be sure both of my lines are "DO NOT CALL".  I'm sure I got the call because I bought two new SPRINT phones last month.

We don't think it actually is Sprint.  They called claiming a security breach and needed our PIN and the answer to our security question.  It's weird that they knew exactly what question we chose to answer, but Sprint didn't have a record of calling us.  Word to the wise: don't ever give out personal information to someone who calls you, call them back at a number you can find publicly.

I just got a call from this 877-671-1851 on my cell phone and they asked for my husband who wasn't here at the time.  In fact she asked for him twice.  Could hardly hear her, lots of noise in the backround, asked if service was good and did I have any questions, to which I told her yes, and no questions.  She then wanted the account pin number to verify that I could make decisions on this account.  I told her that is a private number and she wasn't getting it.  She said ok then hung up.  This is a SCAM.  Sprint would not ask for your pin number, how would they know what it is, after all it IS a private pin number.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.

I recieved the call at 12:30pm and it was a woman who spoke broken english and she said that she was from sprint customer care, she told me that since I am a valued customer that has been with them for 3 years that they wanted to review my plan to see if everything was okay and wanted to ask me a few questions. She then asked me if I had any questions. I said yes, I have poor reception on the new phone that I purchased a month ago (HTC hero) and asked her if there was anything that she could do?? She says " Oh, Okay sir, just hold on a second . . ." She put me on hold to listen to lame   a s s  elevator music for 15-20 minutes and then hung up on me at real close to 1:00pm. WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE HUH? I'm guessing that they are full of it and only have intentions to upsale you or get your information and have absolutely no knowledge about Sprint's service or features! I'd like to mail her a dirty diaper.

I got a call from this number too.  The person asked for my PIN number so that he could tell me information about my account.  I asked what kind of information and he said he could not tell me until I gave him my PIN number.  Why would Sprint need my PIN number and if there was a problem with my account why wouldn't they leave a message?  They called 5 times during the week without leaving a message.  I think this is a scam.

How can any of you NOT already know NOT to answer these calls? Have you ever really received a "GOOD" call from an 800 number? How many calls do you need to get before you realize these calls are typically telemarketing scams or bill collectors? Unless you actually have friends or family that call you from 800 numbers, you're an idiot for answering and an even bigger idiot for complaining about it when you could have just ignored it.
