Call from Potomac Edison / First Energy on past due electric bill.  Automated system, so if you have paid your bill via mail, might not have been updated. If you call back, just tells you balance the system shows.  Have option to talk to live customer. Would rather get this call than have someone knocking at my door wanting a check or cutting my power!  This call gives you a heads up that your payment may not have posted correctly (ie, they applied it to someone else's account) so it is a call I don't mind getting.

This is *NOT* a scam.  They are legal...I called MetEd myself and the total amount they quoted as being past due was the exact same as the recording.  Its just their way of letting you know you're running behind alittle and to please pay.

If it's not a scam then why did you search the phone number on the internet & come here? If it's not a scam you would of had no reason to look it up? As always folks, give NO personal information out on a call you did not make.

I'm 19. I do not even have a job yet. I shouldn't even have bills. Checked online to see where this number came from. Obviously a scam.

Let's all argue,...none of you know...one thing is for certain, you're getting calls from someone you'd rather not talk to....get caller ID and ignore all the numbers you don't recognize, they'll write you and mail it if it's all that important...Met Ed mails late billing and threatens shut offs...either way, they're pricks and can't make near enough money to suit their fat [***]!!

It Really is the Electric Company!! sometimes they get a bad number for a different person and you just need to listen for who they are asking for, and sometimes your payment depending on how it was made has just not processed yet! It really is a good number and an OK call, if you have paid you have nothing to worry about if it is not you let them know it is the wrong number for that person!

    Beware...subtle trick
Please be aware that local and regional electric companies do business under their specific names, for example, ConEdison or Georgia Power & Light.  Is it possible that generic names like "the electric company" may be used to deceive consumers into thinking that they are speaking with their power provider when in fact they may not be at all?  I have found that when receiving such calls it is useful to ask the person calling if they would please hold the line while I contact the state attorney general's office to confirm the validity of their request.  Power to the people!

I received two calls from this number today and didn't answer. After reading the comments I called and got an automated response from Penn Power asking for a return call for someone else. It prompted several options and I used wrong number, then they asked if I had a number for that person to press on and if not just hang up. Honestly I couldn't tell you if it was a scam or not...

It is the electric company looking for a payment.  If you are consistently late making a payment the electric company will apply a security deposit request on your account.
