- Marcy Manning replies to PhillipI have a real problem with this. They called and we didn't answer because we were not at home. They did not leave a message. My husband is very sick and when we got home, he was having a medical problem. I picked up the phone to call his Dr. dialed the doctors number, and I got a recording saying, "thank you for returning this phone call". I was rather shook up so I thought I had called the wrong number. I checked the number and redialed the Dr's office. Again it called the electric co. My phone would not let me dial out for an emergency . I'm writing to the Attorney Generals office about this matter. Someone could die because they block you from calling out to other numbers until you call them back.

- LoriThis call made from 888-208-5272 is from Van Ru Credit Corporation in IL. They are an accounts receivable company/debt collector.
They did not leave a message, but from what I'm reading here, they are under the guise of which ever power company is in the person's area. Mine being Penelec/First Energy Corp., I know what numbers have called me from their company. This is NOT one of them. I would then surmise, since I have NEVER been late on my payments, due to auto debit payments taken, that this is a SCAM.
Do not give them any money! Your utility company will never ask you for money, bank account information or other personal details. You also would have gotten a paper bill in the mail or email if you are paperless. Be aware and alert to scams that are new and upcoming. Don't fall prey to it.- Caller: Van Ru Corporation

- Lori replies to ollivery| 1 replyThis IS a scam. Check on First Energy's web site. I just got a call from this same number and checked on our account. We do not owe anything. These people even have the robo caller sound with the correct name, asking you to call the 888 number back. They tell you they'll shut off your electric of you don't pay them over the phone right now with your bank account info or Green Dot card. IT'S A SCAM. I just reported this to my local police department as a matter of fact.
- LoriThis number IS a scam... I forgot to put this in my post earlier, but here's the official info from First Energy's site:

- Dr Bob replies to LoriThis number called today and didn't leave a message. I have done some research about this number and it is a scam. There are several recent complaints. This number claims to be your power company. It is in reality a scam/phishing. Do not give out your phone number or account information. Tell them that you will call back, and then call your power company on a number that you have for them. Ask them if they just called, and give them the suspicious number and see it it is them

Do not trust (888) 208-5272 call the billing department for your provider. - paul Nolf| 1 replyGetting calls from First Energy looking for payment on electric bill. My provider is West Penn Power .. They must stop calling me.. how do I stop this ?
- Caller: First Energy
- Tamianth replies to paul NolfConsider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

- MelsieThis is a scam. I just got a message saying my payment is late (it's not) and I need to call this number back to pay immediately to avoid having my service shut off. Electric company numbers start with 800, not 888. Check with your electric company. Those who believe it is a scam should report or ignore the call. Those who believe it is really the electric company should immediately pay their bill by immediately calling the scammers back and providing their bank numbers, credit card numbers, social security numbers, birth dates, and mothers' maiden names. Oh, yeah. And the name of their first pet. Sheesh.
- Caller: Unknown scammers
- MelsieJust called my electric company, First Energy. They said they would NEVER call a customer to request payment over the phone.
