    Mr Upset
Recieved a call from these people and they would not talk to me at all. I then called the number and told them that I don't want any more calls to my phone. They of course wanted my phone number. I told them they can check thier logs to see who they called in the last half hour and not to call any of those numbers. They also have caller id and can see the number they called. My wife and I are the only ones at this phone number and we have excellant credit. We are not behine on any bill or have any old debts.  These people should be put out of bussiness. They should not be allowed to call numbers that might of been someones elses. This is not the way to do bussiness and should not be tolorated

Just a junk debt buyer, however there is apparently some evidence they are connected to NCO Financial, so take care they don't double-team you.

Their contact information is as follows:

    Merchants' Credit Guide Co.
223 West Jackson Blvd, Suite 900
    Chicago, IL 60606-6912
    Phone: 312-360-3000
    Fax: 312-360-3024
Consumers are told to call: 888 249 4134.
    http://www.merchantscreditguide.com/contact-merchants-credit-guide.php

Their callers use a host of made-up names, so don't pay any attention to them; just answer the phone and indicate that you are required to advise them this call is being recorded in the case of future litigation. They will either immediately hang up or become more professional and courteous.

Ask them what you want to know; if the caller is too incompetent to answer your questions, or they continue to make harassing calls, then mail them a certified 'stop-calling' letter and save your signature receipt.

If there is any real basis for collection, they will either write you a letter to offer a deal or sell the debt to someone even lower on the feeding chain, if that's possible.

You must be an idiot or have nothing to do all day long but read the Internet. I am here because of calls from Portfolio recovery.  I worked for Fair Issacs for twenty years. The scores max out at 850 - even under the new rules. Idiot...liar...or both. Stay off if you have nothing to contribute. Where's the h**l is the Moderator?

This number calls a few times a week looking for two people that I have never heard of. today they left a call back message with a number 1-888-249-4134 and to ask for Stacy. I called to let them know they had a wrong number and to please remove that number. A very rude woman said she would remove the number. So I said well don't you need to have the number to remove it she said she already had it. So I said how can that be when my caller ID is blocked unless I press a special code. She hung up on me, I called back right away and nobody picked up. Which makes me think they have some special tools that might be illegal that they use to over ride blocked numbers. This is a new phone number for us and we are not the people they are looking for.

My computer records all the phone numbers I either receive, make or miss. This 888 number is through a computer. They will slip up and call you from another number. When they do if you have Comcast high speed for your computer and comcast as your telephone provider your computer is doing the same thing as mine. Go to the Voice box when you sign into your comcast account. Just take the cursor and place it over the number and you will get the location from which the call was actually made. These calls are ALL local. Somewhere in your state they have office(s). Get the person to give you their name and odds are you can find their home phone number on line. Remember it does not work with the 888 number. I called my tormentors home and the calls stopped instantly!

UPDATE!! My Comcast voice mail account is now giving me locations on this number! It turns out that this is the SAME group calling from with-in my state! The last call I got was at 11:00AM on 11-25-09. It took me approx. 10 minutes after I hung up to find my callers home phone number on-line!
Again these calls are ALL local. Stop being passive and get pro-active! If they're going to continue their ways we now have a way to fight back! The time I called my tormentor's house I got his little girl on the phone! I didn't say a word to scare the child I just asked to speak with her father. The child got so flustered that her mother grabbed the phone. This man has NEVER called me back! Now I get different callers and at that they call maybe once a month! I'm still calling their homes just like they call me. I'm NEVER rude or threatening. I just make them aware of how they think they can get nasty and annoying while hiding behind a phone number but NOBODY can hide today!! By the way when you look up there names on white pages.com you'll find that most of these folks use a variation of their name. In my state that's illegal but it doesn't stop them! So get active, Don't allow yourself to be bullied in your own home!
Here's another thought sometimes I forget what their office hours are and I call their toll free number when they're closed. It's to bad I forget because THEY have to pay for every phone call they receive!

Haha, good luck collecting your 15 year old debt from me. Limitations in Florida is 7 years dirt bags. So, since you didn't take me to court during that time frame for the charges I made on your behalf, shame on you. Your time is up and I'm sitting back laughing. If BIG banks can walk away from debt, so can the average "joe". Bite me, and I will keep ignoring your phone calls.

I'm not the one who owes the debt, and I never did.  I pay my debts.  These jerks get the wrong phone number and will never leave you alone, never mind that you have NOTHING to do with the debt, and have NEVER know the person who incurred the debt.  They just keep calling and calling at all hours, they don't leave messages, and they ask for personal information that is none of their business.  Once, many years ago, I gave my name, and guess what, the debt of some other person ended up on my credit report.  I almost sued the collection agency, which failed to remove it within 30 days of my notification.  Nearly lost a house I was buying, and my actual credit is perfect.  Good thing I sent it registered mail and had a receipt.  The operators of these companies are scumbags, and flaunt the law regularly.  The victims are not all people who fail to pay their debts.  A $1,000 fine is a grossly insufficent deterrent to stop them from harrassing innocent people (and I mean people who DO NOT and NEVER DID owe any money).  Their behavior makes me sympathetic for the people who didn't pay but are being harrassed.  Look out if I am ever on a jury hearing a case against these collections companies.  Can you say "unlimited damages"?

I received a phone call from 770-965-7660 at 7:00 am, February 13, 2010.  I disconnected the call.  Wondered who that was and figured they would call back.  Noticed the 770 area code and thought it might be Atlanta.  Do not know anyone there that would be calling that early on a Saturday morning.  About 2:30 p.m., I received a call from 8882494134.  Got a recording about this being a personal business call.  I disconnected the call.  I then searched both numbers and have determined that these are both "Phisers"  searching/mining for information.  They are probably working together. I also received a call yesterday around 3:00 p.m. and the there was a long pause, I guess the computer was rewinding.  There is definately a scam happening andthey are looking for information and trying to collect on an old debt.  They need to be stopped.

My mom called me at work all upset because I had this " important" phone call from a collection agency. She had let it go to answering machine rather than pick it up.  I replayed the message when I got home and it was a female voice who mumbled so badly and slurred her words I had to replay the message three times.  Finally got that it was Merchants Credit Guide Company.  I have a really difficult name to pronounce and one of the interesting points was that the recording had my name inserted in a different, tinny, mechanical voice, perfectly pronounced.  I know I don't owe any money and I had seen an article on zombie debt collectors, so I googled it and found that I seemed to be in good company and this was, indeed, a scam company as I had originally thought it might be.

I am rather upset that these people upset my mom, who has a heart condition.  Shame on them.

I think it's funny that you assume the person receiving calls actually took out these so called debts and didn't pay. I've been receiving collection calls for several years and have perfect credit. Too bad I have a common name and some debt collectors feel they can harrass any-
one with the same name of someone who's a deadbeat.
