We have always keep our bills paided in full. My husband passed away in Jan. I get a call that The estate owes a certain amount from a credit card. This card is paid by autopay. I told the person that there was not a balance due and hung up. Today I receive a notice from Ascension Point for the same amount. What is going on????

Just got a call on a cell number from this company regarding my former mother in law's death. I've been divorced from her son, now deceased as well, for 17 years! I asked several times how they got my number and never got an answer. I also requested to be removed from their contact list. Let's see if they comply.

While they may be a legitimate company with a BBB rating, using a shotgun method of calling and harrasing the most remotely connected people is lame. I've had 2 messages for my ex-husband's father or brother, same name, both dead so I don't know which one they are talking about. I divorced from my ex-husband in 1995. He died in 2009. His dad died in 2008 and his brother died in 2003.  No one from that family has lived here since 1994 and I've changed my name. WOW. Maybe we should let them find Jimmy Hoffa?  I've warned the kids. I'm NOT paying anything.

I'm getting a few calls daily from this number and they won't stop!!!! I have a deceased mother who passed on last year. Furthermore, she had no estate and was living with an elderly person for free in exchange for cleaning and fixing meals. So, she has no housing obligations as far as debt there. They are very irritating!!!!

Hi. Your comments were very helpful to me. Thank you for preventing me from getting involved with Ascension. I did get that call and they were calling about an actual person I had known since we were very small who passed away 1 year ago. We were not related but were close enough that she could have very well listed me as nearest kin or to contact if relatives cannot be found. She was my childrens step-mother so there was a connection to them. Thank you again. Your info was a blessing.

did some research on the Internet and found
it to be a scam.  Don't think I would have

I had been receiving messages on my home phone as well as a letter from this agency looking to collect a small amount of money on my deceased mother's two retail store credit cards--I had already informed the credit card companies of my mother's passing as well as supplied them with a copy of the death certificate.  When I finally had enough, I called them back--they were looking to see if there was an estate and if not, if there was a family memeber or even friend who would "be willing" to pay them!!! Their correspondence requesting payment, and threatening a judgment, requests that payment be made to them--not the orignal creditor.  For sure scam artists!  Don't pay them a cent.

Grateful and happy to have found this site.
It's one thing to get a call from them regarding my recent passed father (5 weeks ago) but they also, somehow called my in laws and disclosed personal info to them that we were not looking to share...Esp since it was bogus. My dad's credit got marred by mistake and a mix up. He always took care of his bills, and the debt isn't even his/the estate's but now they are calling my wife's parent's??? How do they even reach that far out with no last name relation etc. Kinda spooky and is VERY disrespectful to my late dad who always took care of business, and especially made sure he did in the end as he knew he was getting ill and would no longer be able to soon the best he could, including trying to clear his name on mixed up collectors. After tonight's events (the last straw) I cannot wait to call them in the morning.

    Didn't Fall 4 It
I, too, received a call from AscensionPoint; I believe I received a letter a couple of weeks ago--I'll have to check. The caller was looking for the representative of my mother's estate. Since probate has yet to be filed with the court, there IS no representative.

But when the call came, I vaguely recognized the name from the letter. And when I received the letter, I was immediately offended that a company would incorporate The Ascension into their name, as if debt collection has anything whatsoever to do with Christ or Christianity.

So I asked the caller, "Are you a collection agency." She replied in a way designed to skirt the issue. I asked again. She skirted the question again. So I said "By evading the answer to my question, you have answered it. You ARE a friggin' collection agency. By my rights under the law I am informing you to cease all phone calls to this phone number." She asked me to confirm the number; I said: "You have it--it's the number you called to reach me. If you need to contact the estate, send a letter." Then she asked for an address. I refused, saying: "If you are representing a debtor, you have the address." She asked for me to confirm the address; I refused. She tried to continue the call; I hung up on her.

So far no more calls; but if they come, I'll file a complaint with the FTC.

Called looking for the person who handled the estate of a Mr Johnson (I don't remember the first name she gave)  Got a bit snippy when I said I had no clue who they were talking about.  Getting a lot of calls for previous tenants of this house,  I assume that's where this comes from.

Oh really? Some predatory lenders even leave accounts open after a bankruptcy and court settlement -thay have every reason to know the person involved has no  remaining assets and when (as in our family experience) the person involved is 73 years old and will have no $$ other than SSI, they have already gotten their profit from the 24.99% juice loan they've been scamming them with. 10 years later, the person dies with a balance on the card-what a shocker for the poor, honest credit card company -so their response is to pass the debt to their grave robbing maggots who harrass the relatives to try to get them to pay the balance! Yes, it's a choice to incur debt, it can also be an addiction. There is a law against providing drugs to a known addict; so it's also a choice for a lender to extend unsecured credit to a person who is a known credit risk and whose assets have already been dispersed by the court. They took the risk -they can bloody well eat it. Now go back to your little tea party Mr. Holier-than-thou, you're stinking up the comment board.
