Text from 313131 saying to call because I had been red flagged on my student loan consolidation. I worried cause I had just spoken to my loan place yesterday about lowering my student loan payments. But this is spam.

Yes I got the same message and because I had recently spoken with the dept of ed I recognized the number was different. and also wondered why they sent a text instead of calling like the normally would. Yes, it is a wise move to question every call email and text!!!!!

For a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

You can set up an income based plan with your currently lender of US Dept of Ed for free. I'm pretty sure it is a scam. I'm sure if you went further down the rabbit hole they would want your bank account number and routing number, or credit card number, or some other way to steal from you.

Oh, by the way, there are legitimate loan forgiveness programs, see the web site: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation, or google public service loan forgiveness program. You can also call your lender and ask them about loan forgiveness or cancellation programs.

I got a text from this number that said that my Federal Student loan had been red flagged by the Department of Education direct loan program, and to call 888-906-2367. I replied STOP and got a response saying that I had been discontinued from EzTexting alerts.

EzTexting says that they do not allow spam/scam through their service. I messaged them to let them know about this, at which point they told me that they would unsubscribe me (after I told them I was already unsubscribed). I told them that multiple people were getting the same message, and many people didn't have loans. I asked them what they were going to do about this as this "company" is potentially scamming many people out of money or information. They said they would "look into it."

I encourage everyone to send a message to EzTexting letting them know that this company is a scam/spammer.
