- christiemy text was from 1-408-831-9269 and said "Your student loans qualify for forgiveness through the Department of Education. For more information immediately call 1-888-588-7534" I have recently spoke with department of education and updated my number to receive texts...so i called. It was an unprofessional guy that answered with just "hello" then coughed and said "hello this is ____" first name only. I asked who he was with and he sad US dept of ed. I expressed my concern that it was a scam. He said they would ask no personal info. He asked if I was currently enrolled, if my debt was over 10,000, and if I was employed. Then asked for my name and transferred me. A lady answered and as soon as she started talking, we were disconnected. I sure hope I didn't mess up by calling....never gave any other info to them :/

- Tamianth replies to AnonymousFor a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.
