This number is a spam dont fall for it, they have your information, and claim you owe them money, and if you dont pay then you'll have to go to court please dont fall for this scam

My mom told me to call a lady back Catherine Thompson, she said she has papers for me to sign. She left a toll free number and I guess it’s a reference number six digit. I call the number this morning and I got a recording saying they were  Johnson & Smith Associates. I’d like to know how they associated me with my Mom’s home phone number we have different last names.

Scamming debt collectors use all sorts of methods to connect people together and the Internet is full of sites that give details of people. Simply inputting a name can yield many different results and by collecting all the info from them, these scammers put together a profile of addresses, phone numbers , relatives, employment history, etc. and then go 'phishing' by calling them to confirm any info about their "target" person.

Received a call from them this morning. The number came in as 0000000000. How does that number even connect through as a real call? Anyways, I got the same message everyone else is claiming. Not calling back or even going to entertain them whatsoever. Happy to find this thread.

I received same calls. Made the.mistake of giving card number except three digit code. After researching the company was made for aware of their legal status.

wife got this call its for sister who father passed away in may they said the money owed from2012 and they would come after her & her assetts if she didnt pay it i looked it up and it seems like 95% scam

I think you can make the 100% scam.  A call like that is NOT legal notice of a debt.

Johnson & Smith is collections, advertises they collect on old debts.  collectors like them buy  pick up old debts, Do not contact them, or that might assume you might owe.
Refer to your state statue of Limitations for debt.......
1.  NEVER ACKNOWLEDGE YOU MIGHT OWE THE DEBT,
2. any response state you are not acknowleging debt, they must prove you owe THEM THIS DEBT.

If it does go s to court you must appear also,  otherwise it default to them.
 make them prove you owe this debt.

Only thing i can think of is creditors pay a fee to check credit reports and that might  give out your relatives information..

Never give any parivate info over t he phone

I have att smart phone, i set that only callers in my contact list i hear it ring
All others calling get my message box which i have set default message not my voice, good way to screen calls.
Then i have visual voicemail which shows i got a  message and nobody but me knows if i received the message.

Got a call from John Frederick Johnson Smith & Associates wanting to deliver papers to the address.

I received two voice mails from this company, and I called back this morning. I spoke to a Edward Logan who stated he was the cheif Paralegal. He was trying to collect on a debt nearly 10 years old. He was nasty, called me names and made threats. Appears to be a real company since I see posts going back over 2 years ago. They are just trying to collect on debts beyond the statue of limitations. He game me their address and it is a UPS store, which many UPS stores house mail boxes. I am contacting my attorney general and the attorney general in MA.

I contacted the Attorney General in MA who stated I should contact my own AG in my own state. I then decided to call the UPS store where this mailbox is housed and spoke to the manager. Wow! He stated that the company has had their mailbox for 15 years, DA;s and other agencies have come in to collect info and even homeland security. They have had so many complaints. But even after all of that, they are still in business.

I just got a phone call from Johnson Smith & Assoc Law Firm from an "UNKNOWN" number.  Gave me the same, needing me to contact them with my address and that someone over 18 would be there to sign - I wonder if my dogs would qualify?  She spoke good english and is definitely from the US and not a foreign country for a change and gave me a case number.  I won't be calling them back that's for sure but I'm curious as to how they knew both my cell and my work number.

Johnson Smith and associates is a scam. They need to know if someone is home to deliver papers? Legitimate companies use licensed process servers!
