I called the main Macy's American Express, they were calling about some online charges. - Barbara| 5 repliesThis is a scam! This number called my cell phone number and left a message about a Home Depot credit card saying it had suspicious activity on it and to call them back with my credit card number and reference number. IT WAS NOT HOME DEPOT AS I CALLED THE REAL HOME DEPOT and they said that is not their number and I'm not falling for that B.S. and neither should you! DO NOT CALL THEM BACK AND GIVE THEM ANY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. These people are DESPICABLE SCAMMERS COMMITTING FRAUD AND SHOULD BE IN PRISON!!!

- JesseNumber called and said that it was a customer call from Zillow.com then hung up
- ltskn526It's citi mortgage
- Scott SVoice-mail message received, caller claimed to be from CITGO credit card's "fraud early warning department" with questions about recent account activity. He left a phone # other than the one on my credit card. The message said to have my acct # ready plus a "security reference code."
That phone # is like a rash all over the internet! - FDAutomated voice from CitiCards about early fraud warning on my account. Left a 4 digit reference # and phone number to call back. Called the number in the back of my card instead and turned out I did have fraudulent charges on my account. So it was a legit phone call I received from the FL number.
- Caller: CitiCards
- DA| 4 repliesIt is a legit number for CitiBank. Called about recent poor cust survey I left. Remember CitiBank handles has a lot of cards for other merchants (Like Sears) so just because the number is not on the back of your card doesn't mean it's a scam.
- Caller: CitiBank
- Call type: Survey
- JudyI received same message about fraud use of my card. I didn't call the number they left on voice mail but called the number on the back of the card. Turns out someone in Michigan had the full card number. No activity had taken place but the phone number that was trying to use my card via phone was a known fraud phone number. I know no one in Michigan, have not charged anything to a company in Michigan, and don't know where they got my card number. Citi cancelled the current card number and sent a new one and had me update my security question.
Looks like this number is legit but it never hurts to doubt and call the number on the card instead. It only took about 5 minutes to get this straightened out.- Caller: CITI

- Steve replies to MariaI got a call from this number and they said it was regarding a Macy's card. They asked for me to call back with my account number and a reference number. I called Macy's and they said that they had nothing to do with this number and to disregard the call. I closed my Macy's account a long time ago.
- SteveThese folks are continually trying to scam folks with credit card info..... Avoid them!
- KateScam!
Claimed to be a consumer protection group calling about charges on my Macy's American Express. Since I do have this type of credit card, I called the number of the back of my credit card (rather than the return number on the voicemail) and was told there were no problems with my account. - Retired USAF| 1 replyGot two calls with 5 minutes. Lady named "Donna" Left a voice message about suspicious activity and they were from a fraud early department from some bank I never heard of. They then told me to call a 866-242-0838 and reference a number 1940 for tonight only. When I googled 866-242-838 people reported a lot Home Depot scams
- lawmon"Angela" Just called and left message the were calling about Children's Place Early Warning account that I opened. "Call back to1-866-242-0838 with your account number and this reference no. 2017." Only problem is that I never opened any account with Children's Place Early Warning, never heard of them. This is fraudulent, not just garden variety telemarketer
- Caller: supposedly "Children's Place Early Warning
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Just Some DudeReceived call and they left a voice mail with number and reference number and asked me to call them regarding some recent charges to my Macy's American Express Card. Called back and between reference number and my phone number, they found my file (they never asked for my card number, though the voicemail they had left said to have it available when I called). They told me my card was used online for nearly a $300 purchase that morning (using the Amex part of the card - purchase was not at Macys). I logged into my account as they were telling me and sure enough there was a pending charge for the identical amount they quoted. They confirmed it was not me who made the purchase and got the fraud department on the line who immediately closed my existing card number account and said they would reopen another number and send me a new card in the mail, along with a form to complete as a sort of "police report" for them. First time in all my years of having cards that someone stole my card number ... and it's on a card I barely ever use.

- MeJust got a call from this number on my work line. It was a Homeowner Support Specialist calling from CitiMortgage with a weekly update on my refi.

- Kate| 2 repliesThis wasn't a scam. I received a message from this number to verify recent purchases on my Macy's American Express account. The callback number was 866-408-7878 with reference number 1449. Since they said to have my account number ready, I was really skeptical, so I went to the internet to look up the number on this site. From all of the people saying this was a scam, I decided to just call the number on the back of my Macy's card instead, just to be on the safe side. When I spoke with the Fraud Department at Macy's, they asked for the reference number and said I actually did have fraudulent activity on the American Express portion of my Macy's card. Someone had attempted to make a $50 purchase at a Starbucks, which was declined. I'm not sure how this could have been done...my Macy's card is always with me, but at least it was declined. They cancelled my card and issued a new one. My advice: just call the number on the back of your card. The fraud department will clear it up.

- Willie| 1 replyDefinitely NOT a scam. It's a third party doing fraud detection calls for various credit card companies. I called the 800 # on my card and they confirmed it was legit and that they handled the issue properly.
