- HerThis person at 11:54 pm...I no longer have an account with them..Account has been closed for 8 months...But to call me at 11.54 at night and wake me up out of my mf sleep! They broke all kinds of laws! I intend to do something about it too!
- Caller: Citicard
- himCalled me and said I had a questionable credit card application from Citibank. Left an 800 number to call back. The number didn't match any of the numbers from Citi's website. I called Citi back with one of the numbers from their website and I DID have a credit card application FRAUDULENTLY submitted in my name. Don't just dismiss this phone number. If they say you have fraudulent activity, independently look up contact info for the company the activity is with and look into it. The people who applied for the credit card had ALL my info and will probably do it again. Not following up on this phone call could've allowed them to actually get the card and start racking up debt in my name.

- CMI got a call from this number this morning on my cell but didnt answer because even though it showed up as “Citibank”, I get a lot of scam calls. They left a message that it was about fraudulent activity on my Best Buy Card. I do have one but hadn't made any charges in a year and it’s almost paid off. The call sounded legit and gave a 4 digit reference number and an 800# to call their fraud dept & said that account would be frozen if they didnt speak with me. Since it came from 904 area code & is the same area code as my cell, I didnt call the number they gave, I called the number on my Best Buy statement. The recording said there were possible fraudulent charges & transferred me to speak with someone there who asked for the reference number which matched their records but there were no charges made since Aug. of last year. The only recent activity was a payment 3 days ago and each month prior. I verified with another person actually with Best Buy after I spoke with the person at CitiBank so I dont know why I even got a call to begin with. It seems like a legit number but was a big fat waste of my time, but as a precaution I would only call the company back from a verified number on your statement ir card.

- Steven Precourt| 1 replyIt's a spoofed number used by a scam call center. The number actually belongs to a cleaning company in FL. They called me and said they were the "consumer protection department" or something and wanted to confirm fraudulent charges on my card. The thing is I just applied for the card a few days ago and it doesn't exist yet.

- Resident47 replies to Steven PrecourtThose are just go-getter business people who get up early and catch the worm. Probably bucking for a chamber of commerce award and a high triple-B rating. They still toss rose petals at incurable frauds, don't they?
- NimrodFor myself the call from this number was legitimate.
But, as posted earlier by Regular posters "Slim" and "MikeHuntleton", that does not mean that the call you receive may not be spoofing this number and posing as Citi employees to scam you – when in doubt or just simply to be safe, call the number on the back of your card or on your statement and check if there is an actual issue.
My call actually started just before midnight on the 4th when I received a text on my work cell phone from a 5-digit code asking if I had made a just-under $2 charge on my company travel card and instructing to reply "1" if yes or "2" if no. Since it did not identify who sent it, I went online and checked my credit card account. I did find that purchase listed in the list of pending authorizations. I also found that Citi had sent me an email also asking if I made the purchase with reply links for yes and no. I made replies for "no" in both messages and received messages thanking me and telling me that a representative of their Fraud Department would call me "shortly". Since it was now after midnight, I hoped that "shortly" would not be before mid-morning and went back to bed.
This afternoon (the 6th), "shortly" finally arrived and I received a call from this number (and punched up the number here just as I answered). The lady on the line asked for me by name and after I replied that I was speaking with her, she stated she was with Citi's Fraud Department and calling about the unauthorized purchase. I was never asked for any personal or account information, but she did inquire if the credit card was still in my possession and if I had made any recent purchases. When I told her I had not used the card since the last day of my most recent trip, she read off the two purchases I made that day and then told me that the card has been canceled (I was expecting that), I will get a new one in about a week and to cut the old one in half (my shredder will do much more than that). Fortunately, I have a few weeks before my next bout of travel.
Again, this is my experience and while it was legitimate for me, your mileage may vary. Note that I was expecting a call from Citi about this matter (although I had no idea what number they would use), and other than asking if they were speaking to me (by name) there was no request for any personal information or my account number (they knew who they were calling, so they already had that info).- Caller: Citi Fraud Department
