- rose replies to ValHi Valerie, I read your blog and I recently got my certification from
Haverhill and I am warning you do not pursue anything with this co.
your chances are slim getting employment you would have a greater chance
in winning the lottery. - Trina Foster replies to fripouilleThe course is a scam and when I spoke to the operator on the phone to get MORE information she said she COULDN'T give me ANY information unless I put up a credit card over the phone. I immediately hung up on her and she kept calling back. I told her I just wanted to know ALL the details and she insisted that Havehill can not give out information unless you put up a credit card to show your sincerity. Like I fool I DID she never said they would charge the credit card.. She said "I will send you some information out in the mail on havehill and a brochure". She said that they "Did NOT Have" a stager in my area of Henderson, Nevada and asked if I had any experience and I told her 10 years of model homes, etc. She said "You WILL be offered employment at $31.00 per hour and would I like to work Full Time?" I said "Yes, full time employment is what I am looking for". She said that I would receive a brochure and a letter in a few days with a phone # to call for more information or any further questions. That was it.
I went out of town for 2 weeks and my neighbors said UPS kept trying to deliver a package that HAD to be signed for? When I got back on June 4th UPS left a note that said a package was to be SENT back by 4Pm. I went down to UPS headquarters on June 4th (Friday)and signed for this "package" and when I got the package it was from Havehill Staging Home Course Study Materials ??? I immediately called my Credit card Company and sure enough they had charged my credit card That NIGHT on May 21, 2009 the FULL amount for ENROLLMENT $997.00! The Operator NEVER stated any rules, regulations, RETURN FEES, NOTHING about any FEES only that if I became interested in the course she kept saying ma'am the course is 100% guaranteed you are under no obligation they offer 100% refund! I was only to receive a Brochure and Letter with more information.
I got the letter a few days later AFTER receiving the Home course Staging Course Materials package on June 4th that said (dated May 21, 2009 the night of the phone call inquiry) "WE have taken the LIBERTY of sending you some information in ADVANCE of speaking by phone and look forward to following up within the next few days. (see enclosed brochure)Sincerely, Patti Coleman Course representative.. I called the # but only got a full mailbox message-- I phoned again to no avail and then called my credit card company to file a claim to NOT pay these people on June 4th Friday. My credit card company instructed me to send the package back with a confirmation, insure it for $1,000.00 and they would have me fill out a dispute claim. I mailed the package back on Tuesday June 8th (Monday was a legal holiday) via UPS and it cost me $41.00 (the cheapest) to mail it back to the address that was on the box (Canada).
On June 11, 2009 I received another letter That welcomed me aboard and a follow up with a few important details I'll need to remember.
NOTHING in this letter said anything about a refund. I went onto the web site to search any information at all- After 1 hour I finally found some info in the tiny fine print Course Terms, Conditions & Policy Guidelines It stated :
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
All course fees are subject to a $250.00 non-refundable application processing fee. Any refund requires that all materials be returned in perfect condition before refund is processed. If you put down a partial payment or deposit, the amount is refundable except for the non-refundable $250.00 application processing fee, and the $25.00 Shipping and handling fee.
If you choose to withdraw from the program within 7 days after receiving your course materials, you will be charged a $250.00 application processing fee, and a $25.00 Shipping and Handling fee (Plus applicable taxes) and refunded the remainder of your payment.
In order to qualify for this refund you must return the Refund Request Form and Course Material to us within 7 days of receipt. We use Courier delivery confirmation reports to confirm the date you received your Course Material. Where a delivery confirmation is not available, we estimate the number of days a parcel will be in transit, and then add the requisite days to that time period. For example, if the estimated delivery time by courier is 2 days, then you will have 9 days from the date you received your Course Materials to ensure the Course Material and Refund Request Form is returned to us. To apply for a refund, you must completely fill out the Refund Request Form, include it with your Course Material and mark the package with the words 'REFUND REQUEST ENCLOSED', and send it to:
40 Sheppard Avenue West, Suite 500, Toronto, M2N 6K9 for returns from Canada.
Refund Request Forms are available by sending an email to info at Haverhill dot com with the words REFUND REQUEST typed in uppercase in the subject line. If you do not have access to an email account, you can request a refund form by calling 1.888-978-2433, Ext 2204 and one will be promptly mailed to you.
If you pay by credit card, your refund must be returned to the same credit card. If you paid by check or cash, refunds are made by check and mailed to your address on file with us. Refunds are processed within 30 days.
NOTHING WAS EVER MENTIONED IN ANY LITERATURE ABOUT THE ABOVE INFO. If you do not have a computer your ARE NEVER going to get these details. They do not disclose this to you over the phone either!
I received a phone call from Patti Coleman on June 12, 2009 she said she had received the course materials I had sent back and wanted to know Why? They were sent back. I explained I hadn't requested them in the first place only wanted more information- I never agreed to "ENROLL" I said the operator was to send me some information and a brochure and that I WOULD BE OFFERED FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT at $31.45 per hour with a 40 per week. Patti was VERY RUDE to me on the phone and said " YOU WILL NOT get a refund!" You can't order and then decide to cancel we don't work that way- and besides you DO NOT qualify for a refund because you waited past the deadline on sending the materials back! Plus you didn't FOLLOW the directions that were mailed out to you on how to get a refund request.
I told her I had sent the course materials back within 7 days (including the 3 day holiday- I got the package on Friday and mailed it back on Tuesday the first business day) she said "well, you didn't call us on the day you picked up the package. I said "yes, I did shortly after 4PM but your offices were already closed".
She insisted that I will NOT ever get a refund and I said Why did you send me a letter dated the night of the phone call 5/21/09 stating that "you took the liberty of sending me the material in advance"? She was silent and said "I will look into this matter believe me but I can tell you this Trina you will not get a refund.. At Best you WILL OWE US $250.00! You DID NOT follow the proper instructions on the refund request. I told her I had NEVER received any information or a phone call from the company until June 11, 2009 and I had already sent the material back on the 8th! If I had waited I would NEVER have qualified for a refund and that's the scam also.. I asked about the 100% gaurantee no comment. I did however after more research find this on their site:
These Terms shall be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario without reference to conflict of law principles. So why is disclosure in the United Sates not being enforced? - jklegal replies to fripouilleTo those of you being slapped with lawsuits, why aren't you filing counter-claims? While we all do need to be very careful about understanding the elements of slander and defamation (and you REALLY have to avoid personal attacks on the internet!) you can defend yourself here.
I see that someone was advised by counsel to publish an apology, but you may want to speak with a qualified attorney about a class-action, large scale claim against this company; you don't appear to be alone in this regard.
I am familiar with various online education programs and can assure you that the standards for most are much higher than what is being insinuated with regard to this particular company.
Bottom line, keep records and document, document, document everything. - Home Staging is a Con replies to Dekora SucksIt's about time some one is posting compaints about this company. My huband and I were also conned by John Carter and company. We look forward to hearing more from you.
- Marianna replies to Kimshere36| 4 repliesI am in question as to sign up with Haverhill or not. I have gone to Barbara's site to review what she offers. Why do think they are a scam? I have spoken to a stager in Dallas,(I'm in Austin) and she likes it and makes $1,000 a month part time with Haverhill.

" There is a Stager born every minute"
I think it was a typo-
" There is a Sucker born every minute"
And I am one of them!!! - carly s. replies to Val| 2 repliesThis is a complete scam company. They falsify their claims regarding employment!! There is no employment guarantee!!! Haverhill is in the business of giving a design course, not in hiring anyone!!! I studied for 5 solid days 10 hours a day (not kidding) for my second test, with what I KNOW were perfect answers (you know how you know when you know something, and I easily answered the questions which means I KNEW the information) yet they did not improve my test score, which is a complete scam.
- teresa replies to Home Stagerare you by any chance a staff member of haverhill? that would be the only reason you wrote that...
- becca replies to carly s.does any one know darren morgenstern's e-mail address
- ex studentIs there anyone else out there who's credit card got charged an extra charge after they had already paid for the course? I got charged almost $300 twice! They claimed is was a mistake, that they had charged the wrong card, but twice? I'm wondering if this is something they are doing to other people too.

- Test Questioner replies to Just wondering....Actually, that question has quite a few words that could fill in the blanks and be correct. It's a matter of them looking for an exact word that is the problem, and they might just be doing that on purpose. That sentence is very vague. Most of the test questions are extremely vague. Test questions should be designed in such a way that (if you DO know the material) you know what answer they are looking for. These questions have many possible answers which are still all along the same lines.
"The lighting in a room determines its ambiance and how we percieve everything"
"The decor in a room determines its style and how we percieve everything"
"The layout in a room determines its functionality and how we percieve everything"
Are any of these statements wrong? - Haverhill Victim replies to Home StagerREALLY? How "MANY" homestagers would that be out of 100,000 students?
- Author replies to bluesky| 1 replyYou can force a refund by contacting your credit card company, but you first have to return all materials to them. Credit card companies will help you if the purchase was less than 60 days ago.
- Staging Author replies to janiceWe are seeing an increase in the number of disgruntled students coming to us for more training (comprehensive training and certification) and taking advantage of our offer to discount our Diamond courses by 50%. That's a substantial savings from an outstanding student-centered, student-focused course run by a company committed to a student's success, not failure - a company with an A+ BBB rating and 4 decades of experience.

The stories break our hearts, but hopefully we can serve as a conduit to real success for anyone wanting more help and a way out of this unfortunate turn of events. All is not lost. - Haverhill VictimCan everyone who is interested in pursuing this to get their money back join the facebook group "Haverhill Staging Students"? Would that be an easier way to locate each other & keep in touch?
- advertising designer replies to how about a little common sense advice?| 1 replyIt's true what that person said about nobody checking the legitimacy of ads. I've worked as an advertising graphic designer at ewspapers for over 28 years, and I can verify that ads' legitimacy is not the responsibility of the paper. I've been ticked off to see newspapers I worked for running awful scam classified ads that some con artist placed, without even a disclaimer. All the "Work From Home" classified ads are, without exception, rip-offs. I wish newspapers would just refuse to run them.
