I just had the same thing.  I answered because I was waiting for a call from a 905 number and it was a recording saying I had won 250,000 air miles and to press 1.  Now I am really worried that I have exposed my phone to someone.  I think I may call Telus and let them know what happend.

    Same as above.

If you recieved a call, report this to the Government.  If enough report, then hopefully they'll take action.

Just got a call.  Decided to go through to see what it was about.  Automated message when I picked up said I was the winner of 250K airmiles.  I pressed 1.  Someone came on and asked if I was 25 and owned a valid credit card.  Then they put me on hold again, this time for 3 1/2 min.  Then someone came on the line and said he was representing Cancun and asked to whom he was speaking.  I said "WHO are you representing??"  He said "Cancun,  I'm calling from Cancun Mexico, to make you an offer to come vacation in Cancun.  To whom am I speaking?"  I replied with "you called me, so why am I telling YOU who I am, don't you know who you call?"  He said No, I don't, to which I interrupted with a "then you shouldn't be calling" and hung up.  My patience was running too thin by this point to go on with his thing.  First of all, if they are calling saying you are the winner of 250K air miles, and they are then asking for money for you to take a vacation, you are not getting air miles, which, is already a scam.  and if you actually get the vacation for $349, this will be accommodations only, the confirmation will say "such and such resort OR similar" .  You will have to pay your airfare to get there, AND sit through a timeshare presentation when you get there which will be an incredibly hardsell.  This is best case scenario.  You may get the certificate, but there will be so many blackout or not available dates that you will never get there, but on the off chance that you do, your accommodation will not be the 5 star, it will be the "similar" one which isn't even close to being similar at all, and will not be a 5 star by any stretch. I have been a travel agent for 15 years and can't tell you how many times I have seen people suckered into these things.  They come in asking about how to get them redeemed because the phone number n the certificate doesn't work, there are no dates, available, etc.  Or they come back so mad with the scam that they think a travel agent would have more clout in reporting them. And the worst part, is that they have your credit card number and some go to town with it and you are the one stuck with trying to deal with the credit card company to get your funds back.  I don't know why anyone would be idiot enough to give out their credit card number over the phone just because someone claims to be legitimate.  Sorry, but the government cannot do much to stop this sort of thing as anyone can pick up the phone and start dialing and do the same thing.  And if someone is stupid enough to give out their credit card, they have no one to blame but themselves.

905 917 8989 called offering air miles. How do you find out where this is coming from. Real  annoying. This is a obviously a scam but I would like to see these people weeded out and put on a list of con- men and published for everyone to see.

I got a call on my cell from this number as well.  Since I have family back east, I thought I would check and see if it was them.  I then noticed I am not the only person with this same problem.

I think Craigslist is giving out numbers to telemarketers. You know when you want to place an ad, CL asks you to verify your number, then they send you a code to enter? Well, they have your number and email. How do you think CL makes money?

Same message - "This is an important message from Airmiles Canada. You have won 250,000 airmiles. Press 1 to continue." Of course, I did not, as it obviously sounded like a scam. Hung up after a few seconds.

I got exactly the same message on my cell phone, "Won $250,000 air miles points"  I immediately uttered the longer version of B.S. out loud because I never entered a contest to win air miles points.  After I uttered the word out loud the phone call was cut off.  Maybe someone there heard me.

I received a call at my work number. The automated message said "Congratulations. You've won 250,000 Air Miles rewards points. To accept your prize, press 1". I pressed 1 and someone started talking really fast, as if they were reading their text. I asked, 'Who is this'? The guy repeated his little speech. I asked him 4-5 times who this was, and he got impatient and hung up on me. I knew from the start it was a scam but I wanted to see what he had to say. If it were really a prize, the guy would have identified himself and not have been rude.
