Tom, don't be a moron. They called a number I never use for incoming calls.  I never give it to anyone... Ever!  When I answered their unsolicited call, I went into a call que and waited 10 minutes so I could tell them never to call me again.  I figured after that amount of time that they were billing me somehow by the minute and were just trying to keep me on the line, so I hung up.  Any legitimate company, wanting to give you or sell you anything would at least have a rep. ready when you answered.

Keep getting unsolicited calls from Survey Rewards.  Gotta BLOCK cold calls again!!!

(917) 398-5596 is definitely a telemarketing company. As a former telemarketer I can tell you the only way to get rid of these calls is to ask the "agent" if you are lucky enough to speak with one to remove your number from their call list. Just because your number is on the Do Not Call List doesn't mean you won't get calls. If you respond to any type of survey on line and list your phone number or cell phone number you are giving permission to receive telemarketing calls!

The DoNotCall Registry works on voluntary compliance like speed limit signs on highways. Honest telemarketers honor the Registry, abusive telemarketers and scammers do not. They may be calling randomly or if you've provided your number for anything (widget or service), buried in the fine print may be authorization to release your number to third parties.

Automated call congratulating me on being an "Average American" and telling me to press 1 to answer a survey to get UP TO $20 in Visa Cards. Not card. CARDS. What? Several at $1 each?? Unfortunately, surveys, even bogus surveys like this are considered legit and can bypass the DNC list. Got this shortly after entering a Southwest Airlines contest that turned out to be bogus.

When you give one company your phone number, that doesn't give every other telemarketer in existence permission to add you to their list. But, telemarketing and survey companies are very scummy, so of course they're going to share their lists. They all should die a slow and painful death.

Asking an "agent" to remove your number doesn't do any good. They don't comply, OR if they claim to comply, the remove you from the current call queue, and will call you again for another company. They never remove your number from their database completely.
