- JeffAnswer call and tell them to please hold, you have to go and pick up phone near your computer. Put the phone down and go have dinner. Come back later and hang the phone up. We may as well waste their time on hold. I have a telebouncer that works great too but like to piss them off. Telebouncers are not made any more but you can still find them if you search. I think they are the best blockers.

- Janice Hicks| 1 replyI paid over 119.00 to fix my computer which was not done. I have been receiving numerous calls asking for more money which I said I did not have. I am not happy as my computer is just as bad as before. I feel like I was taken advantage of and would like my $119.00 refunded as I now have to take my compute in to have it fixed. Not sure what company other than it came up as Windows.

Cybercriminals don't just send fraudulent email messages and set up fake websites. They might also call you on the telephone and claim to be from Microsoft. They might offer to help solve your computer problems or sell you a software license. Once they have access to your computer, they can do the following:
Trick you into installing malicious software that could capture sensitive data, such as online banking user names and passwords. They might also then charge you to remove this software.
Take control of your computer remotely and adjust settings to leave your computer vulnerable.
Request credit card information so they can bill you for phony services.
Direct you to fraudulent websites and ask you to enter credit card and other personal or financial information there.
Neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls (also known as cold calls) to charge you for computer security or software fixes.
Telephone tech support scams: What you need to know
Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.
Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a website to install software that will let them access your computer to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information is vulnerable.
Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.
Here are some of the organizations that cybercriminals claim to be from:
Windows Helpdesk
Windows Service Center
Microsoft Tech Support
Microsoft Support
Windows Technical Department Support Group
Microsoft Research and Development Team (Microsoft R & D Team)

How to protect yourself from telephone tech support scams
If someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support calls you:
Do not purchase any software or services.
Ask if there is a fee or subscription associated with the "service." If there is, hang up.
Never give control of your computer to a third party unless you can confirm that it is a legitimate representative of a computer support team with whom you are already a customer.
Take the caller's information down and immediately report it to your local authorities.
Never provide your credit card or financial information to someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support.
What to do if you already gave information to a tech support person
If you think that you might have downloaded malware from a phone tech support scam website or allowed a cybercriminal to access your computer, take these steps:
Change your computer's password, change the password on your main email account, and change the password for any financial accounts, especially your bank and credit card.
Scan your computer with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to find out if you have malware installed on your computer.
Install Microsoft Security Essentials. (Microsoft Security Essentials is a free program. If someone calls you to install this product and then charge you for it, this is also a scam.)
Note: In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender runs in the background and notifies you when you need to take specific action. However, you can use it anytime to scan for malware if your computer isn’t working properly or you clicked a suspicious link online or in an email message.

Will Microsoft ever call me?
There are some cases where Microsoft will work with your Internet service provider and call you to fix a malware-infected computer—such as during the recent cleanup effort begun in our botnet takedown actions. These calls will be made by someone with whom you can verify you already are a customer. You will never receive a legitimate call from Microsoft or our partners to charge you for computer fixes.

Windows 8 includes antivirus protection that’s turned on by default. - camaypaosWas a woman sitting there on the other end silent. When I said hello for the 4th time, she finally up and said "Goodbye." I told her not to call again, for she had not yet hung up. Plight of the earth, when will they get it?

- JohnHave been receiving many calls from this number over the past several months...generally have never answered..but today I did and spoke quite briefly with an Indian or Pakistani accented man who initially asked if I could hear him..and then sated that he was with "Windows Technology"....told him I was not interested and hung up. This must be a computer dialing set up targeting retirement type communities hoping to catch someone who may be entering the dementia stage.
- ZachDid not answer, no message left...caller ID said Midland MI
- WomanWearyofScamsAn IT friend said there are people in India (probably just an example) who will resort to this kind of scam to put food on the table for their families. Their goal is to keep the people they call on the phone long enough to trace the call (and therefore access personal information).

I received a phone call from 989-832-8978 from Midland, MI saying he was from Microsoft and wanted to know about my Microsoft software and my computer. I could hear a lot of yelling in the background so I figured it was a scam so I told this person "I don't know what you are talking about as I don't have a computer" then he said "f*** You and I hung up. My phone number is on the National Do Not Call Registry so guess it really doesn't matter as this person calls many times a day and to be rude like this is so uncalled for. I have had it, this is harassment.- Call type: Telemarketer
- PamCalled 3 times but got my answering machine,,,i do not answer unless i see who it is on caller id. Annoying. I think i did hear a breathing....

- Mike C replies to Kathy Pet| 1 replyDo Not Call List does not help with these scumbags. I have been on DNC list for years and have verified I am still on it but they call anyways. I have even resorted to cussing them out when they call and tell them to never &^#$($* call me again.. Next day they call again. I've blocked them but then they just call from another number
- Criminals replies to Mike CDon't obey laws, especially when they are in foreign country's like India and Pakistan. The US has no jurisdiction there.
- Ohio| 2 repliesPerson from "Microsoft" said my computer was sending them errors and he was going to "fix" my computer. He had me run the assoc command and proceeded to read me the CLSID for the .zfsendtotarget, trying to state this was my computer's id (ha ha). He attempted to have me use www.456usa.com so they could connect to my computer. When my firewall stopped them, he attempted to have me download firefox from filehippo.com. I told him I needed to leave and would call him back, but he wouldn't give me a number. He said it would just ring in busy. There were a lot of people talking in the background, like a call center. He finally let me go and said he'd call back in 5 minutes. I did a little research, and as I expected, it was a scam.

- BillReceived call from this number. Midland, MI on caller ID. I answer phone pretty gruff and they just hung up. Undoubtedly would have been same nonsense as others have written about. Just wanted to let everyone know it's still going on.
