Telemarketing Script

Here is a list of questions to ask each telemarketer when they call you. Print these questions, and put them next to the phone. Telemarketers are required by law to answer each of these questions. Write the answers down and as well as the date, time of the call, and anything else that will help you remember the call.

I work for a firm that does subrogation for insurance companies and one of the most requested thing from people we call is to have their number listed on the DNC list. Although subrogation at this point is not included in FDCPA laws, our firm chooses to follow it, and if you follow FDCPA laws, the collection firm is not required to add a number to the DNC list unless the request is in writing. I believe this is also the same for credit collectors as well.

Now most of you will most likely ask why we harass people? I for one hate the word harass. It is not harassment if we are calling the responsible party to pay for what they caused. The collections we are doing is as a result of someone driving a vehicle without insurance and causing an accident. Driving a Vehicle without insurance is breaking a law and if these people drove with insurance, they would not get any phone calls from people like me.

Now yes, we have the ability to be a bit firmer with our process as we will file suit in a civil court if the debt is not resolved, but its not harassment

I used to work for a software company and we did bulk mailings like you talk about, it was a few cents each.  Another thing that we used to do was advertise in those card 'decks' that have hundreds of different companies cards in them.  Those were really cheap.

Well, they were cheap until we started receiving cement blocks, ads for pornographic magazines, an entire CASE of pornographic magazines, etc.  All they did was tape the card to the end of whatever they wanted to send and voila, yes we had to pay for it and it was expensive since it was considered first class not some bulk rate deal.

    THE ONLY WAY
No one likes to be called or harassed.  I used to be a telemarketer, and honestly, I think it should be banned, outlawed, and wiped from the existence of marketing strategies.  The only way this can be done, isn't by wasting your fueled motivation here.  File a small claim.  File! File! File!  File, until the courts are so over-run by these claims that either state government will outlaw it or businesses will discontinue it's use.  I don't know about you, but I certainly like having an extra $1500 in my pocket thanks to Sprint.  It may take a long-time, you might have to change your number in the mean-time, just keep writing down every phone call, everything you had to do to change your life to avoid the harassing phone calls....it will pay off.  It did for me and it will for you, unless you do something serious about it....everything else is white noise to them.

Look on eBay to see if you can find a Bang & Olufsen BeoTalk 1200 answering machine. Bang & Olufsen discontinued the product and didn't replace it with something similar, so I think I can suggest it here without it appearing to be advertising. I have a BeoTalk 1200 and it's the most sophisticated answering machine I've ever seen. You can designate 10 numbers you want to block, and when those numbers call, the machine will intercept the call (you'll hear half a ring) and play a busy signal. Your caller ID will still show who called, but they can't get through to you. Unfortunately, this doesn't stop the robocallers from trying over and over again, but it cuts down on the number of rings big-time.

The machine also lets you set up different greetings for different callers, among other things.

They tend to be rather pricey on eBay because of these features, but the call-blocking thing makes it worthwhile.

I'm in a pool with some friends. Whenever I get a telemarker, especially a credit card scammer, on the line, I keep them on for as long as possible. My phone records the number and minutes, seconds. At the end of the week, the person with the longest call wins. The pool money goes to a credit card payment of my choice. This week I kept one on the line for 31 min., 09 sec.
There's a lot of satisfaction doing this; knowing you're wasting their time and costing them money. The best is when I can get them to call back during a time I know I have free. We don't get many return callers.

If they are hanging up on you - they are probably SCAMs anyway
Legitimate businesses will provide the information.

I am on the Do Not Call list and I have a Telezapper!
the Telezapper tells the computer that the dialed the number is no longer in service and its get deleted. I stopped getting a lot of calls with the Telzapper before the Do Not Call registry was even created.

From what I understand from other postings, if you are contacting someone in a harassing way in their phone, then they are legally allowed to do things like whistle or use horns.  However, this is for "harassing" calls - I think people are complaining about the ones where they've repeatedly asked to be put on the DNC, and continue to get calls from the same number/company.  At that point it is harassment, and people are legally allowed to do whatever they want on the phone at that point.
